Traded Chris Yarran [to Richmond for Pick 19]

The blues mistake was getting rid of ratten whilst we were looking to contend -> changing direction/game plan at such a late stage is asking for trouble. Malthouse certainly didn't help and neither did the list management (advertising that players were not wanted, getting very little for those that left -> most of which are solid contributors elsewhere atm).

As for the tigers - agree you've covered the retirements -> but thats all that has happened. The tigers haven't progressed.

Your last sentence suggests that you agree with my point all along -> now is the time for the tigers to spend big on bringing in mature players to open up that window earlier.

Is it do or die? - never that dire but if you suddenly need to replace a couple players earlier than expected, it can set you back a couple of years, and then more players need replacing etc (see blues when we unexpectedly had to replace fev).
Yeah, I agree with that then, if we don't bring in any mature players this year then big questions will be asked if we don't improve next year. I think we're doing well, we should be a strong list for the next 6 years at least, and over the next few I expect us to be trading out picks for players rather than hitting the draft.

Caroline said Lennon is close to walking out tonight. You would think Yarran ends up as a straight swap.
Good call!! I think it' s becoming more likely and It will be on Carltons terms as Yarran is still contracted and Lennon can walk. Richmond can't be stubborn with this one

win-win for both sides.
Richmond get immediate talent and push for a premiership. Plus they get to keep their first rounder. (currency for Bennell or Treloar)
Carlton get youth for their rebuild.

Lennon uncontracted wants out.
Yarran contracted wants out.
We hold all the cards here ;)

Y'all are making some assumptions here that might be slightly premature. I understand why, Lennon would be a really good get for your footy club and that's exciting. Good luck, hope it pans out for you.
But here goes...
1. That Lennon has any interest in playing for Carlton. He might have offers from far more appealing situations, maybe even from teams who can/will offer more than Carlton.
2. Carlton holding all the cards - If Lennon doesn't choose Carlton, you are holding exactly zero cards with regards to him. You hold some cards owing to Yarran being contracted, but if he chooses one club (Richmond), you no longer hold all the cards. You would have a pretty good hand, but not the whole deck.
3. That a 1st rd pick was ever on the table for Yarran. Cue irrational arguments......now

Will be interesting to see if Carlton wear any lube when heading in to trade with Richmond. I hope they don't..
We re not the ones needing lube

BLUES’ BOLD PLAN

CARLTON is likely to demand versatile Richmond youngster Ben Lennon when it heads to the trade table to deal for want-away speedster Chris Yarran.

Having been dropped midway through the year for “failing to meet on-field standards”, Yarran has requested a trade from the Blues and is almost certain to land at the Tigers.

Carlton can afford to be bold when discussing trade options for Yarran, who remains under contract until the end of the 2016 season.

Taken with pick six in the 2008 national draft, Yarran has played 119 games at the Blues but has excited and frustrated in equal measure.

The out-of-contract Lennon is yet to renew his deal at Richmond after saying in August he would “finish off the year and probably think about it”.

The 20-year-old has played 16 games after being taken with the Tigers’ first pick at the 2013 national draft.

He was nominated for the Rising Star in Round 22 this year, but was dropped just two weeks later ahead of the side’s elimination final against North Melbourne.

Lennon was drafted from the Northern Knights, was a boyhood Carlton supporter and is close friends with Dylan Buckley

Fine, then he stays and we get Free Agency compo if he choses to leave next year.

Well you'd think she'd know what's going on at Richmond with her connections.
Lennon for Yarran you would think is a near certainty.

Certainly possible. May even enjoy life under a new coach and resign.
If I were Carlton, I'd take what I can get and be rid of him. Not sure his attitude is one I would want around the place when you are trying to build good habits/standards with kids

Would you guys be willing to part with your first rnd pick for him ?
He'd be devastating in a team like Hawthorn with strong culture and leadership to keep him under control.

I would doubt they would give up a first rd pick for Yarran.
He's certainly the type of player that Hawthorn would look at, based on his skill set. But if they were going to give up assets on a risk this off season, I'd suggest that Bennell would be ahead of Yarran in Hawthorn's eyes.
It's not impossible. If you are going to get a 1st rd pick from somewhere, Hawthorn would be one of the only places I could see it happening.
Still pretty unlikely I would think...but crazier things have happened.

Personally, pretty torn on this one. On the one hand, Yarran's potential and still relative young age are pretty attractive to Hawthorn with their list where it is. On the other, his attitude is less than impressive and his output less than consistent.
I wouldn't be savage on my team if they chose to go there
