News Clarko in strife again

AFL Statement
The AFL this week made inquiries into an incident involving North Melbourne Senior Coach Alastair Clarkson during Saturday afternoon’s match in Hobart.

The AFL was made aware of the alleged comments by a match day official post-game who heard the comments, with the AFLIU following up the report.

Clarkson has admitted to loudly swearing and using inappropriate language while standing near the umpires and officials’ bench in response to an umpiring decision during the third quarter.

After talking to match officials, the AFL was not able to be comfortably satisfied that Clarkson’s swearing was directed towards a specific person or persons and in particular an AFL match official or officials and as such no finding of a breach of AFL Rules has been made.

This "investigation" should be pretty quick.

There were three broadcast cameras setup on the benches at Bellerive to capture the Coaches (both Clarko and Hinkley coached from the bench) as well as the players on the interchange. Highlighted two of them in yellow below (with the third being the camera taking the footage of Clarko pictured).

Even though those cameras don't capture audio, the footage is clear and unequivocal. If there isn't footage of Clarko looking directly at an umpire and mouthing very easy to lip-read words, then this has to be dismissed as nonsense and Tom Morris should have to publicly apologise to Alastair Clarkson.

Why on earth would Tom Morris have to apologise for reporting something that the AFL is investigating?

So swearing at a sports game is the same as swearing at a cop?? Thats a significantly long bow you are drawing there.

I fear for the day you head down to a local suburban football game.
Go to a local football game and see what happens if the coach of a side yells that out within earshot of an umpire, whether it's "directed" at them or not, immediately after a free kick is paid.

I've spent enough time in the outer to not give a flying f** about what people in the crowd say, but that is completely different to the coach of a team, whether you want to believe that or not.

The gloating from North supporters that Clarko chose them instead of us seems to have abated over the last little while.
No, it's still the funniest thing ever lol

Regardless of how North is going, firing your coach because you think you are a shoe-in for Clarko against a minnow club and then being told to bugger off so you have appoint the minnow's former coach that you have been calling shit for 10 years is hilarious.

Yes let's fold a 120+ year old club rich In history because Clarko said campaigner.

Let's just fold Carlton instead as Carlton supporters exceeding have some of the worst takes on BF.

nmfc had been looking forward to yesterday’s MSD. For once the day promised the first bit of good news since last year.

But ruined by Clarko. You would not read about it.

I agree its different what a coach and a spectator says, but your comparison was to swear directly at a cop, which is truly bizarre. Its a football game.

Im genuinely of the opinion of whether or not he said it to the umpire or not, its not a big deal. It would be said 20 times a game in the coaches box where there are no microphones, where Clarko should be.

If it was any of the other 17 coaches, it wouldnt even be a story.

The AFL hates Clarko, and have done for multiple years, even when he was at Hawthorn. He's bad for their image and their brand of being squeaky clean. He challenges them in multiple ways and they hate it.

They want their coaches to be puppets.

Exactly - Morris isn't Asian, he's not black, he's not a woman, he's not gay. So don't treat him like s**t, he's a man with a heart and he's got feelings

North: hehehe that whole Essendon missing out on Clarko thing still hilarious.🤭

Essendon: looking to consolidate top 2.😎

North Fans: hehehe that whole Essendon missing out on Clarko thing still hilarious.

Essendon Fans: looking to consolidate top 2.

They can consolidate the top 1, they're still going to **** it up when it comes to September anyway lol

Awww geee willikers, golly gosh, good grief.

Never realised these parts were so puritanical. Clarko should probably partake in some solid self flaggelation over this.

Or better yet, the AFL could install a swear jar on the North bench or in the box. Im sure by years end Clarko will have donated enough to buy each umpire a naughty 0.0% Carlton branded beer.

You genuinely think that it's not a big deal to deliberately call an umpire a campaigner?

It's a perfectly useful analogy, the umpires are the police officers of the game and should be respected by everyone, in the same way that police officers should.

As if the AFL hate Clarko... If that was the case he would have actually been suspended for using homophobic slurs (note the lack of "allegedly" there, because he did it).

Agreed - perfect analogy. #acab

it is pretty funny. This is inarguable. It's also pretty funny Ross Lyon told us he didn't like our vibe. Both were admittedly very amusing turns of events and if I was an opposition supporter I would have made hay out of this. With much glee.

It is incredibly Essendon to fall arse backwards into the only good, indeed best, possible option; through no good management on our behalf, and that too is pretty funny.

It's truly a funny old world. Sometimes being the butt of a joke is not the worst thing that can happen to you.

Something that North supporters can probably take heart from <3

I reckon beyond cash, Clarko looks most unhappy. He used to have an unpleasant wolfish grin but that has gone. Maybe a couple of week’s suspension might give him a chance to reset.

Brad Scott is the happiest of all coaches this year. Oh yep, it turns out he is a good coach. Just bizarre nmfc fans revile him.

apropos to this, how do feel about the fact that Clarkson swore at an umpire at an under 9s game? An umpire who was a junior themselves?

Genuinely interested

every news station pumping stories about clarko swearing and begging he be punished.

meanwhile each week 700k viewers watch another coach in the box swearing down the phone line, camera switches back while the commentators giggle.

Not hard to see what's happening here and who the main instigators are.

It's also not hard to see the difference between swearing about whatever in a coaches box, and swearing directly at an umpire/official (which is what is being investigated).

Has Clarko ever apologised to Ian Aiken? One of the weakest acts of thuggery ever witnessed on an Aussies rules field.
He’s abused junior umpires, homophobic rants, punched holes in the wall at the MCG. Even after winning 3 consecutive flags, when his team was knocked out of the semi final the following year, he sooked up about not getting ‘holding the ball’ decisions going his way, no grace at all. He covers his mouth and carries on like Rumplestillskin in the coaches box. Did he not move past being 6 years old?
