Apparently - Oliver has just now informed Melbourne he want's to move to Carlton..

Can any Melbourne ITK's confirm or deny this?
Apparently you are the one in the know, how about you inform us?

One of the Carlton ITK posters just posted it on the Carlton board. They are probably one of the two ITK's I place more weight on regarding accuracy. Still, doesn't mean it is true though.

Williams isn’t getting $850k
Stop quoting nuffies like Robbo, Whateley, Watson etc
It does seem to fluctuate between reporters, but it's consistently 750k+ per year apparently

Let's say the big IF of Oliver wanting to go to carlton then if it was a straight trade I don't see how it gets done without McKay or Curnow being involved.

This would have to require a third team delivering a replacement mid or forward that's ready to go. (Plus picks flying around)

I love it, believe the Oliver "rumour" based on nothing but not the widely reported wage of Williams "IT'S NOT TRUE!"

Do you guys genuinely believe that sports players get paid a fixed amount each year that's the same over the period of their contract? Next question, if contracts aren't public, where do you believe the information comes from and what would the motivation be?

How about you think for a second. GWS clearly know what contract Williams was offered by Carlton, and their decision to match or not is based on the $. It's obviously band 1, or they would match. And of course GWS are going to tell the media what contract he's been offered by Carlton, because it justifies their decision.

I was merely pointing out the hilarity of Carlton supporters willing to accept a random "ITK" because it's good news but then shoot down anyone that mentioned the reported overpay of Williams as crap.

I believe that reporters are generally averaging the total fee over the length of the contract without any knowledge of any added incentives. I reckon that managers let the media know of a ballpark figure they're looking for and they run with that, then up it based on the reason they hear why a player joined a club (i.e. IF Williams chose North Melbourne because they were offering the most money, they'd guess it's 50-100k more a year)

whats the point arguing about Williams wages, we find out once the compo pick is out right?
never understood fans getting uppity about team salary caps. just let list managers do their job? if someone has overpaid you'd be sure to know about it in the next few years.

the rumour has indeed come from one of the more reliable itk posters, so he may want to come.

as i've said previously, if he wants to come, he can request a trade all he likes, but he's contracted. unless melbourne get a Harry McKay or Sam Walsh coming back, then they shouldn't entertaining trading him.

carlton fans can fantasize all they like but i see it nearly impossible to get a deal done.

Pick 7 and a future first?

Pick 7 and a future first?
still too little. Oliver was AA at like age 20, has barely reached his ceiling. At his best he's probably Melbournes best player and best prospect.

it's not unreasonable to expect Carlton to make the 8 next year then our 1st round pick could very well be a mid-first, hardly that desirable. if i'm putting walsh on a similar level, i'm not accepting pick 7 + 12 (thereabouts) for our best young player.

melbourne are also in their window now, they need players not picks, i would've thought.
