yeah thats fine. Oliver will always have currency. Even if he has another poor season there will always be clubs who will roll the dice on him.
Its not just a dice roll on form though. He could be culture poison and that's no doubt being factored in.

lol at all the Geelong fans who got so far ahead of themselves listing Oliver in their beat 22 for Round 1 next year. 🤣

Come on now. You've got nothing to give us. Clearly we can wait a year and by then Geelong will have better picks.

Have to be honest, didn't want Oliver from the beginning and happy about the latest developments.

I really think his career is about to peter out and that contract will significantly impact the list for the next 5 years.

yeah. and he could be the best player in the game again. Oliver was a standard setter with his training standards for many years. Clearly he's gone off the rails. So the question is all risk v return.

You're picking up Bailey Smith who you'll give up pick 15 for. Bailey Smith is coming off an acl, mental health issues and known drug issues. So with Pick 15 in mind for a guy with this level of risk (I would say more risk) then Oliver (who is twice the player) is worth much much more.

I find it funny how cats fans try to diminish the risk of Smith and overplay the risk of Oliver.

If you're going to acknowledge risk then the same needs to be applied to Bailey Smith. And we know the dogs aren't even happy with pick 15 for Smith. So why would the dees be happy with less than that for Oliver.

You don't understand. Melbourne is stuffed whether we keep Oliver and Petracca or not. So we may as well wait for a time that suits us, not other clubs.

Everyone was wrong on Petracca. Those people have gone quiet. And I suspect it's the same people now that are certain Oliver is going.
Agree it's unlikely this trade will happen

It would make sense from a PR perspective for Melbourne to quash the rumours ahead of the BnF.

Do you think Oliver is going to front up to the club's biggest event having just shopped himself around to other clubs?

It's an $8 million millstone around Melbourne's neck. If Geelong take it all, there's no much more required in terms of picks.

Oliver is worth 2 first rounders right now. Clearly he has trade value. You don't pay a guy $6 million dollars who has no currency. You realise how silly that sounds. Opposition coaches still tagged him this year.

lol. no. he isnt.

you dont pay a guy 6 million because is worth it, you pay it because it's his contract and you have to pay it.

the key is who is paying the 6 million and if part of it is covered by Melbourne to get him off the books.

This is a case study of why you dont sign players on long term million dollar a year deals. it is fraught with risk. And it has bitten Melbourne right square in the ass.

Twice the player? Oliver has definitely shown more than Smith so far for sure but ask yourself this, if every club in the land was offered uncontracted 23 year old Smith for 1 FRP OR $10m/6year 27 year old Oliver for 2 FRP in their respective current positions which are they choosing?

Does Oliver know that, he has no reason to go out try to get back to his best, only for the club to try flip him once again. MFC has basically said, if we got the right price, he'd be out the door. No wonder he feels unwanted, you don't want him there. His not going to some bottom club because they have better picks, he is contracted to Melbourne he stays or leaves on his terms. He seems happy to stay at the Dee's but surely you won't pull this shit again.

umm yes. twice the player. Multiple BnFs, AA's, and 2x afl coaches award. Awards coming out of his ears.

I would rephrase the question, you're in your flag window and you can only take 1 player for the next 3 years, which one are you taking? Clearly it's Oliver.

What do you expect? the guy was waking up in ambulances, snapping windscreen wipers and rocking up to pre-season 10kg overweight. Don't put this on Melbourne! This is 100% on Oliver. Fancy expecting to feel wanted after his behaviour.

So you're telling me we get all that for only 1.3m per year for 6 years and 2 first round picks. Gee wizz if Geelong weren't such a shit run club we'd be all over this amazing deal.

wait but you were just saying hes worth 2x FRP's?

This is probably the best outcome bc my fear was that the Cats would actually be able to turn him around

Too late for that. He's 27 with only another three years of good footy left in him.

We tried it with Mitch Clark who was the same age and it didn't work out.
Tyson Stengle has been a success but he was fairly young (23) at the time of signing up.

So u gave him 10 million reasons to do what ever he wants.
BRILLIANT!! Simply BRILLIANT!!
The MFC. The gift that keeps giving.
Only the MFC could have had a nap on the couch when a dynasty came a knocking at the door.
Cheers and best of luck with whatever happens going forward bud.
