Speculation Clayton Oliver [UFA 2030]

It's 1.3m being reported now because his salary is staked to the salary cap. Cap goes up, contract goes up to match TPP. So the per year hit is just gonna keep going up over the life of the deal.
So we have 1.1m and 1.3m three weeks apart and we're supposed to believe these clowns? ok

How is Dusty to the GC for the 6th year in a row looking?

Fairly certain any Richmond rebuild will be 10x as bad following the North strategy you blokes are doing selling all your experience.

Will be North 2.0 with a decade on the bottom.
Yup, we will be terrible for a while.
Behind all clubs at the moment, and by a fair bit.

But you guys aren’t yet at ground zero.
Need to nuke the joint over the offseason.

The prez and two assistants have already made way.
Expect the coach and the CEO to depart within 12 months as well as Petracca, Oliver and Pickett before the ground up rebuild starts in earnest.

Weak draft next year apparently too so I reckon they may try to fast track it if they could.

If Pert was shopping him then why is it reported that the meeting with Geelong was a surprise? How the **** can it be a surprise if you are shopping him.

Geelong sound keen as mustard on him and will need to pay up.
Both can be true, with the Smith deal, Geelong won’t have much currency to trade, so in isolation it is a surprise that they are interested. What isn’t surprising is that they will be interested in taking him for nothing, which is what their offer would be I imagine.

I honestly wonder if the the AFL will stick their nose in here:

* Melbourne cry to the AFL that they've made a horrible mistake saddling themselves with a massive contract for a player who has suffering from [Lifestyle Choices].

* Geelong cry to the AFL that they want to do the right thing by a player suffering from [Lifestyle Choices] but another club has made it impossible due to their ridiculous contract

* AFL wants to hush up all discussion on [Lifestyle Choices] so uses some secret herbs and spices formula to pay out part of Oliver's contract themselves, or re-negotiate most of it into AFL Ambassador payments or some shit.

Lets both clubs off the hook and shuts down any nasty narratives for the AFL.

Why wouldnt the Dees think they could get Oliver back to somewhere close to his best if he were to stay?

Surely there is very little urgency in dumping Clarry's salary, theyve already got Brayshaw's money off the books

Maybe 200k salary contribution each year, not a full on salary dump.
Hes not some non-required player taking up 2x his value

Id 100% be demanding proper value and id be prepared to tell Geelong to go away
Unless Trac has demanded it

Oliver will cost Geelong only one of salary or picks... it won't be both.
They either take a heap of his contract into the Hawkins, Tuohy, SDK (?) hole and give Melb a token pick or they get him on a minimum contract and pay up draft pick wise

Why? Nearly ever club would be willing to pay Oliver that. Perryman got 900k allegedly.

Even with that contract Oliver would be worth 2 first rounders

Probably by planning ahead, which is something I don't think many clubs are doing very well. Teams have known for years that the salary cap was going to increase by $3mil over the next three years.

How many do you think calibrated for that, as opposed to recruiting and contracting for the moment?

I think a lot of fans can't handle that another club does the off-field stuff better than them, which is why you only ever hear this conspiracy rubbish on forums, and not from the other clubs themselves.

Perryman may be on 900k, but what did it cost the Pies to get him other than salary?

That's where the difference is here. It's not quite Bowes 2.0 but it's not far off.

That seems nefarious, shady and completely unfair to the remaining clubs. Sounds right in the AFL's wheelhouse!

Are we talking about the same Clayton Oliver that is being shopped by his own CEO, had trips to the ED because of drug issues, has a history of behavioural issues and played like absolute dog shit this year? Which clubs are falling over themselves to pay him 1.1m - 1.3m per year?

There’s a poster on another Melbourne site. Not sure if it’s been mentioned in this thread. But he has got things right before. He said Melbourne aren’t shopping him. But a club has enquired. Apparently asked if Melbourne would take 2 firsts.

Swans picks 17 and 19? Melbourne pay $250k pa of that silly salary for x ? years!

If any team needs a clearance beast it's the Swans. They were smashed at CDC'S in that GF. Smashed.
