Scania is testing a solar truck trailer to see how much fuel it could save

A typical semi-truck trailer has the same surface as a medium-sized house. With that in mind, Volkswagen owned truck manufacturer Scania is is covering one of its trucks with 1,507 square feet of solar panels to see exactly how much fuel could be saved with its plug-in hybrid semi-tractor .

Private jet carbon emissions by the wealthy: There's no flight shaming the rich

Private jets emit more than 33 million tonnes of greenhouse gases annually, apparently more than the whole country of Denmark emits in a year.

People who tell ordinary citizens what they should be doing. People who buy credits, meaning they are paying money to have the carbon lumped onto ordinary people.
Newsflash. Fly a corporate jet and you are pumping out CO2.
If you are offsetting, you are paying money for someone else to take the blame. I for one am not buying into that scam.

The Taylor Swift types should be outed. Her plane alone puts out more CO2 than what the average "aussie or usa " citizen does for everything.

Recently the head of the Corporation i work for flew to Australia for 2 days. ( At least it was a commercial flight ). Meanwhile our corporation has directives to reduce our reportable emissions. A private jet would be reported against the company, a leased or commercial flight is not. A taxi to the airport is not. Thems the rules.

As much as the Taylor Swift types should be outed, at least she is an entertainer who does actually need to be in different places. Even worse are the business people who do this sort of shit just for meetings which could have been hosted online/in VR.

Its why the climate forum annoyed me so much. It was such a unbelievably great opportunity for world leaders to make a stand and do it online and set an example for the rest of the world, yet instead they all traveled to Europe, many on private jets, while tweeting on their 2 month old smart phones how much carbon poor people are responsible for.

These networks have a deep history of fascist activity in the United States, where they were born primarily as a reactionary response to the New Deal and fears of "creeping socialism."

Agreed.
They could have got some tech companies on board, and come up with the VR meeting to beat all VR meetings, using it as a showpiece and benchmark.

There's really a rich vs poor thing happening with it all.
We're all going to have electric cars. OK , so people who struggled to buy a $20 000 car are suddenly going to be able to afford $50 000. Wonder how those home deposits are going.

Yeah, it's not a great look for the leaders, but when you're getting up to government level then face to face is still acceptable IMO and they are **** all of the numbers of flights. Where it's really impacting is thousands(/millions?) of businesses around the world insisting everyone comes in for the Monday morning meeting instead of on Zoom. Or where you need to regularly fly out to existing clients instead of meeting online. This is more back to one of my current rants on governments thinking people going back to the office is a good thing to pursue. The effect of all that pointless travel on emissions is yet another reason why any who say it should have a lead battery jammed where the sun doesn't shine.

Or politicians flying out to open the Woop Woop public library , so they can get their frequent flying points up for their holidays.

A 737 puts out around 100g of CO2 per passenger per km.
A 6 cylinder commodore puts out around 200g per km So one passenger , the plane is better, 2 break even. Family, and the car is better for the environment. A small car is around 130g /km.

Diesel trains are usually rated at around 90g per passenger per km, but it depends how many people are on the train.
Electric trains in Europe are around 24g per passenger per km.

Those corporate jets can put out up to 40 times more emissions per passenger than a commercial flight.

Probably right, its an inefficient battery. But you won't get an electrical battery anywhere that big.

I truly can't understand why any government project , by either party , becomes a slush fund for contractors.
Seriously, can't they get a quote and hold them to it?

It all depends on how well, or how poorly, the scope was defined in the contract.
