If we see some huge changes it will be the surest sign that Dew didn't listen to his assistants.
Fair call but what will happen if these big changes go the other way and get beaten easily? Maybe the assistants were the snakes? I would have thought if the coach goes hes only as good as his assistants as the coach doesnt do all the midweek stuff ? They should be shown the door too.

The buck stops with the boss. If his assistants suck or don't tow the line it's on him too. You never blame poor performance on your subordinates in any organisation whether you're a CEO or pro sports Head Coach.

You hired/chose them, you manage them and you delegate to them. It is always your fault when you're in charge.

The reality is several of the current assistants will lose their job when the new coach comes in, it's unlikely they kniffed Dew.

I was chatting to someone I know from training, that sat with Bob East at a pies game up there last year, and he mentioned to me... this decision, he was not surprised with. He was very impressed with him, and said he doesn't take mediocrity in any form of business including this club.

Cochrane now seems comfortable labelling Dew a Development Coach…

“Cochrane said Dew, 43, was one of the best “development coaches” in the league, and would find a new club”.

“He has got lots of credits in the bank ... I think as a development coach he is one of the best I have ever seen in the business, so let’s not create his epitaph just yet. There will be a big future in front of Stuart Dew in other roles, most likely at other clubs, obviously,” Cochrane said.

No shame in being a development coach.

Just like big sam being a relegation coach in the premier league.

Oh I agree. He did a fantastic job at what he was good at.

But I also think Dew had reached his ceiling as a senior coach mid season.

But I’m firmly in the Hardwick camp now. Apart from his proven finals coaching pedigree, a highly respected Victorian coach will provide many positives being at the helm of our team.

East was on the board that gave Dew a 2 year extension on the basis of mediocrity. Sorry not buying his corporate ass covering.

He was, but there was prob more optimism at that point. But nothing has progressed since though, as they had hoped.

I think the decision was right to extend Dew last year and the decision to get rid of him this year was also the correct decision.

He had to be given another year to see how he'd go and if the upwards trajectory would continue.

They couldn't have only given him a 1 year extension, nobody does that, but it was always going to be the case that if they went backwards or didn't progress this year that his time would be up.

I think Cochrane and East both made the right decisions at the time.

Picking Ben long ? Please he is scared ! At least fiorini has had a fair year compared to other years long is no good

I guess drummond will do that and the VFL role?

Double headers at the same ground for our VFL team for the rest of the season. Bye this week and also we have the bye the week of the Crows game in Adelaide.

Surely Drummond won’t be able to coach the VFL team and AFL mids concurrently.

Maybe Kornberg, the development coach, or U18 Academy coach Cotton will take the reigns?

You haven't actually been watching our games then.

Long's been pretty decent when he's been in the side, Just unlucky for him that Lachie Weller has that spot when his knees good.

Ive watched everyone of them very closely. He fumbles he wont put his head over it when needed but when a bloke isnt watching he prefers to run into the back of them or jump on them and give away free kicks. Watch on Saturday.

Thought he was really impressive in Darwin then followed up with shockers against Carlton and Collingwood and deserved to be dropped. Not sure why lemmens isn't getting a look in he was pretty good before getting injured. Also uwland has been pretty solid in the reserves ( maybe sub this week?)

Pity he couldn’t develop our skill levels.

I’ve seen one good game by Long … ever… the shutdown role he did on Rankine.. I still get scared when he has ball in hand.

It’s a shame, because that was a great game. Whether that was a specific role he was given, or he just enjoyed playing in Darwin, I don’t know.

We need a lockdown small defender badly, but he has definitely is not consistent enough to be it. Time will tell if he has it in him.

Football Clubs everywhere obviously have this weird positive metric that chimes when players run out against their old teams
