Collingwood 2016 Pre-Season Discussion

I know I have no idea what you have been told. I also greatly respect the info you give on the board and know you have excellent sources.

Still unless your source's come directly from the medicos, physios, fitness staff and unless you have a pretty significant background and education in sports rehab so you can decipher the information I doubt the reliability of the assessment. You would need a lot of very detailed information to be able to make a judgement on how the rehab team is performing. I am not wanting to have a go at you just point out it is a common mistake to read too much into information and not understand that you need the full information. Very few people would have access to that.

Agree with this. Concerns of poor management can only be trusted if coming form appropriately qualified and experienced professionals. Which then begs the question why are these same people (who I assume work for the club) not challenging the status quo to effect change given these concerns.

I also find it difficult to believe that these concerns continue despite the appointment of the Ex Geel medico last year.

So all said and done there are "sources" and there is speculation.
Finally, unless Scodog has a keen a appreciation of what is best practice in rehab - which may infact be the case, I don't know what to make of his comments.

A couple of things from this morning. A beautiful day, no storms, not yet at least. I got screwed buying a coffee from the glasshouse in an Aus open cup. $5.50. The Pies had a coffee tent setup on the AAMI Park side of the ground, only $3.50 there...
Ben Reids kicking out of defensive 50. Fantastic.
Darcy Moore looked in good touch. Took a few grabs, went back and kicked the goal. Marsh looks huge. With his pace and strength, I can't see how he can be left out of the side. Seems to favour the fast, bullet stab pass, which seemed to always hit the mark.
Treloar ran for the whole session at varying pace. He hasn't joined in with the main group as everyone knows, but hours worth of running in each session won't hurt his fitness. Toward the end of the session, he went down the other end, and did some lateral movement work, and snapped a few shots at goal. He doesn't look far away.
Goldsack and Langdon ran laps. Sinclair trained fully, as did Ramsay, Tooves and Swan who were all away from the group last time I went along. Aish in the main group too, looks in good shape.
The whole group did at least 30 minutes of set shot practice at the end of the session, which was good to see.
I heard Daics being said a lot, and it took me a while to catch on that its either Nick or Josh, whoever is oldest. He's short, but looked well balanced. I watched him kicking set shots, he didn't miss one.

:thumbsu: Cheers Buena!

That is the Most Idiotic Thing I have Heard. Why would you give a team that won the Pre-Season Comp. Makes no Sense

Trying to get interest and keep the pre season cup credible. The better option is just canning it all together.

At the end of the day, I don't think McGuire is completely serious, im sure some aspects of it he is very serious, the pre season not so much. But thats the big statement in his idea, the big statement is the one that gets it in the media and people talking.

It's time that Footy gets on the front foot and in the media now that the big bash has finished. That's all Ed is doing here

They just should be advertised as what they are. Practise Games

With no inside (or outside) knowledge at all, my observation of the Collingwood rehabilitation process over the last few years has been that it has changed from being the same as every other club's to a very conservative one, that keeps players out of the game until their injuries are actually healed. Reid, Beams and Freeman are the obvious examples of players who were held out long past the time when we would have expected them to be back.
Some like Swan and Pendlebury carried injuries and played, which is a bit of counter evidence, but as someone who doesn't actually know what the injuries players had really were, I can only say that I approve of processes that assess long term risk as more important than short term gain.
I suspect that the lesson from playing Jolley and Reid in the 2011 grand final still resonates in the Collingwood injury management decisions too.

I agree.

But I also think Treloar will be ready and fit Round 1. I don't really care how much full training he does during the pre-season. He will join the main group soon when they think he is ready. for the moment he is on a specialised program.

So why Train the Young One with the Main Group Then?

It's fantastic for their development to train with the senior boys. Clearly they wouldn't participate in full contact but getting involved in drills with the seniors will do wonders for their confidence. Geez it'd be exciting to see another Daicos in the Black and White.
