Nope. Gone to Gold Coast for a Break/Holiday

Okay, the club clearly has a plan, so I'll respect that, but from my point of view I can't see why we wouldn't be playing him at least 10-12 games in the VFL. Which obviously still might be the plan, but I'd start getting him games as soon as right now. I just don't see the benefit in him playing in the U18s any more

Played his last couple of games under a bit of an injury cloud so it could be a simple as wanting him to fully recover.

I raised the question to him last Friday about Vfl v nab league. Seemed to indicate he would return to the nab league comp

Has not been 100% I guess since the Knock he had in RD1

Happy with only 2 (Daicos and Dib) in the National draft if need be, plus one or two rookies/DFAs.

And the 1 or (hopefully) 2 we pick up in the mid season draft

Compared to last year, the trade period should be fairly straight forward. No need to turn the list over like last year or firesale players out the door.

Probably still need 4 to 5 senior list spots to be opened up depending on what we do with incumbent rookies and Cat B players.

But with Wright now taking greater charge of that process... I think the worst of the list mismanagement is behind us

And I can’t see us not getting Daicos or Dib... irrespective of the price

I agree. That's normally reserved for the very very good KPP types or kids who are elite by position. That position largely being midfield.

Dib hasn't even made the U23 squad for the pre-draft exhibition match.
That exhibition game is only for 19 YO’s who were eligible for last years draft or any others older than that.
I think Dib in a normal year would be around that 20-40 range but national under 18 champs performances will really fine tune that
If a club in the 15-20 range really like him they will take him knowing the bid can’t be matched

Didn't even consider that, cheers.

Need to take 3 Picks so we take someone late in the Draft

One of the posters said it’s only 2 compulsory picks now with new list sizes
While it does still say in the AFL's rules that a minimum of 3 players must be taken in the National Draft clubs can simply elevate rookies to fill those spots and meet that requirement: https://resources.afl.com.au/afl/do...0efee899/AFL-Rules-effective-9-April-2021.pdf

This has been the case for quite a few years now, and there are plenty of examples of clubs only selecting a couple of players in the National Draft, though we have always taken at least three players in recent times. Both Keane and Noble are likely to be elevated from the Rookie List to the Primary List at the end of the season, so we won't have an issue meeting that requirement, even if we only want to take Daicos and Dib.

Talking about academy players, Fremantle is probably playing one of its academy players this weekend - joel western. Western is super small, but super fast with a 2.7 for 20 metres. He was picked up at 54, so I presume was accessible.... although he's indigenous so I suppose he wouldnt have been on our radar...

Club needs to handshake agreement commit to Dib now. No more VFL games... even have him sit out the NAB league.

Invite him to train every week with the list. He’ll continue to develop, not be so prominent in the eyes of recruiters and be ready to go for the club in early 2022

Wouldnt that be draft tampering?

Dunno.

Kids in Vic don’t have to play NAB league in order to nominate.

And he certainly doesn’t have to be playing VFL.

And the club can invite players down to train with them... especially since he’s already part of our academy.

Theoretically I assume Daicos and Dib could pull themselves out of competitive footy this year and the AFL would have no precedent to fall back on

Apart from that likely being draft tampering, he really hasn't done enough to be surging into 1st round selection IMHO. Certainly had some moments, but that's it. If there's a recruiter out there with a hard on for him then none of that will make 1 iota of difference, they'll still nominate him prior to us being able to match. You're really only talking teams with picks 18-20ish if at all.

Same size as Nick.

Tougher to get NGA kids from 2022 onwards, the protected zone is top 40.

That makes the academies kinda pointless.

Yeah, they claim its because of covid cuts that clubs dont spend as much. But I digress. Its really the Jamarra rule, because clubs got pissy they were getting the top prospect without having the #1 pick..

Nick Daicos’ and Robert Harveys come around every ten years.
But you stated he is on the smaller size, but he isn't really. Same size as Nick, just a touch shorter than Macrae. Taller than Adams. Being 17, he could grow a couple more cms in his draft year.

Shame about Dib. Looks like he will play with North Melbourne VFL as Collingwood had no interest.
I believe there’s one coming through for next year. Yu Yu Ashwin.
Given Dib was overlooked I think he stays NGA zone eligible for us in 2022 unless he’s signed as a preseason supplementary or selected in the midseason draft before then. Of course that doesn’t stop him playing VFL elsewhere.
