That will just be more imaginary lines deciding where short people and monsters cut off, and considering they are all following the ball these days I'd say it's perfectly relevant
You’d be wrong, but ok.

Judd? Cripps? Pendlebury? Fyffe? Bontempelli? Fyffe? Dangerfield?
7 mids in a league of how many? No doubt there are plenty around that are pushing around and beyond the 190cm mark, but they’re regarded as tall for midfielders.
You'd be passive aggressive, and wrong
Except I’m not wrong.

Yes it’s a few years old, but the height averages across the league wouldn’t have changed dramatically over the past few years.

Fairly irrelevant averages if they’re including rucks, 3rd talls and KPPs.
A more relevant average would be the average height of midfielders league wide, which I suspect would be closer to the 183-85cm mark.
Any adult male under 6" (183cm) should officially be classified as a Hobbit.

You never will be in your head, that's why you do the same thing day after day year after year, but you are most assuredly wrong
Ah, I just worked out who you are. How long will you last this time?

It's been rising over the years, both GF teams were 187+ cms, and in our last 2 H&A games we were 187+ and Brisbane were 188.3 and Essendon 187.1

Melbourne 8 players below 184
WB 9 players below 184

183 is well and truly within the inner quartile of AFL player heights.

To be honest, rucks and KPs probably haven't increased in height as much as midfielders in recent times - In our 2002-03 Grand Final teams, our KPs and rucks were a similar height to now, but the mids and flankers were on average a fair bit shorter.

KP sized midfielders like Bont and Cripps and Fyfe are pretty common now, but back then there was pretty much just Kouta and Goodes. Crisp would've been the tallest midfielder/flanker on our team back then, and he's not in the top 3 now.

Just saw this too - Good resource, but to me it shows a gradual but clearly upward trend in the height of midfielders.

Not an explosion, but a clear upward trajectory, compared to ups and downs with rucks and forwards and a near plateau with defenders.
There is an upward trajectory, absolutely, but in response to the original declaration that N Daicos is short, it shows that currently by position, he’s pretty much bang on average height, which was my point.

I'm not convinced the trend will continue to outstrip population increases in height. The trend that we can see may simply have occurred because recruiters for a while collectively decided that blokes under a particular height were on the nose. We've since seen them start to be recruited again.

My sub 6' stature and hairy feet dislikes this.

If you are going to go of Tolkien for sizing may I suggest:
- Hobbits (3' to 4') 90 to 120cm
- Dwarves (4' to 5') 120 to 150cm
- Human ~6'+ or ~183+cm
- Elves slightly taller than human but thinner in stature
- Wizards (6' to 6'6") or ~183 to 198cm
- Orc = Carlton supporter

I may be going out on a limb here, and I'm just going from his name (his insta says Tom Wakelin). But could this be Shane Wakelin's son, Tom? He's be a teenager at this point.

It is.

So I suppose draft eligible for 2023 if he wishes to go down that path? I dare say we would have heard a bit about him by now if he was going to be a gun father-son prospect.
If it's correct that he hasn't played a lot of football in recent years (thanks to covid and focusing on basketball) that might explain why we've heard nothing about him. Hopefully he'll get to play a bit over the next couple of years and he develops nicely! He looks a decent sized lad.

Have discovered a little information.

1. In year 11 this year, and likely will play for Haileybury's firsts. Will be 17 when the season starts.
2. Then will likely play for Sandringham Dragons (figured, as he played his junior career up that way)
3. Plays Half forward/Wing. Close to 6ft.
4. Good ball user, just doesnt get a lot of touches.

Why do we care about him? He’s only FS eligible for Melbourne, same as his brother who was drafted last year iirc.
Melbourne? Shane never played for melb.

Only played 3 for port.
94 for saints.
154 for Collingwood
