Hopefully they change the top 40 aspect. Just make it top 20

On the nab league app, playing for the chargers we have two NGA

Yuyu Ashwin wearing #8 (winger?)
Riley Voulanas wearing #38 (small forward)

any info you have on them? eDPS PMBangers
Voulanas was really impressive in the practise match against Calder, has some great natural forward craft, ended the day with two or three and tested well

But the question is why have an academy if there's no discount. You throw money into players ... who turn out to be too good they're swept up by a club. Clubs then click on to this, do dodgy stuff to prevent players being noticed and it is a total nightmare. All this is leading to is an older system or one implemented in the UK and Europe. You have your academy players which you're guaranteed and you buy/sell/drop them. The American model doesn't factor in academies as they have college. Australia doesn't have a uni/college culture so it wouldn't work here. But an academy model doesn't work in a system that has a draft. Academies help to grow the game but harm the draft. Endless cycle here.
The issue is getting the zones equal. Back in the days of zones, Hawthorn became a great club simply because they had the best zone by a mile, because the population in their zone grew massively and included a heap of private schools with big footy budgets that helped develop players.

Ashwin can play half forward, wing and in the middle, Oakleigh really like him and he has some tricks. Voulanas is a quick small forward with good goal sense. Both look likely prospects just unsure if they will be Top 40 at this stage

How does he look?
He didn’t get a lot but when he was involved he didn’t make to many mistakes with ball in hand and defended fairly well. He is 178cm right now and might grow a bit more still.

Definitely. Other thing I don't like is the multi-cultural ONLY part of them. Most academies in Victoria that aren't Northern mandate you have Indigenous or other heritage. I think if they opt for an academy system, then you should open it up to all. Of course, have places for minorities but don't exclude others. Just want to make sure no-one thinks this post is racist either. It's not. I'm not saying don't have multicultural but do it on talent, not heritage. :).

Caleb Daniel is 168cm. Daniel is a good footballer. Being shorter shouldn't exclude you from football. Height is overrated, too. I think we know a lot of giraffes who are flops or aren't stars.

Thanks. Sounds promising. Hopefully they perform well and still stay outside top 40. That would be ideal. More forwards with goal sense will be most welcome.

Elliott isn't getting any younger, and apart from Ginni (I don't view McCreery in the same bracket, who is more of a pressure forward) dont have much in this area. There is murley of course.

Nice! Sounds promising. Pretty early, but what do you predict draft range?
I'll be able to answer more accurately after a month or so, but just off attributes he showed on the weekend I'd hazard a guess that he ends up late second round area

Just be pretty much Waste of Time for Clubs IF they have no Rights to Prospects that are Good

Riley is named in the chargers line up for this weekend.

Ashwin isn't.

Shh dont be too good Riley. Or lets hope there are fair few bids in the first couple rounds and he can slide til past pick 40.
It'll be interesting to see whether there is an increase in NGAs being somewhat hidden, due to the new rules.

Yeah.. Or I wonder if they'll re-think the top whole 40, and just agree to stick to top 20. Last I read, the afl were gonna get feedback from clubs on that.

Not sure if this has been posted previously. It's a season preview of some of the talent which Sandy Dragons has this season.

Nicky Christian gets a mention at the end as a Collingwood Father son, but, unlike Will Ashcroft (father Marcus and tied to the Lions), he's not identified as one of the main draft fancies.

Oh, and he is listed at 190cm in a HS article of the entire list, which seems more reasonable to the earlier suggestion in articles that he is 195cm.

Thanks.

He can fly under the radar. Being young in age and development he unlikely would be a high pick anyway. But looking forward to seeing how he develops this year.

Not even sure how IF he is Rated Good Enough to be even Drafted at the Moment

Of course size and strength matters. If Cox was 168, he’d be on the bench for Glenrowan reserves.

Both NGA kids were playing in today's chargers game.

Ashwin -- He is the one we need to worry about going top 40.. Decent size, nice kick, winger.

Riley, did have 2 shots on goal, but both were rushed.

Both had 12 touches. Riley with 3 tackles, Ashwin with 1
Both had 5 marks each

Though I did feel Yuyu was good at what he does. Went up to cal tomey and mentioned it, and he was like "Told you he was good".

Wardlaw might be that inside Bull we need.

Thank you Jen for giving so much time to Collingwood! It is for real amazing how much effort you put in!

Watched the game and both boys did well…I do feel there is more upside to Riley in terms of X factor. People within Collingwood are really excited about Riley’s speed and pressure as a small forward.

Ashwin was good at times, but slow in his decision making. I also believe he needs to work on his aggression at the ball. He does keep his shape out on the wing well, giving his team an option .

Riley had one set shot on goal and the other was a beautiful side step after he dispossessed the opposition and gathered the lose ball. His move to wing was interesting…I’m guessing it’s to utilise his elite speed and ball use going inside 50. He also created several goals for his team with his relentless forward pressure, causing several turnovers leading to goals.

Really looking forward to seeing these boys develop throughout the year and hopefully playing in the black and white next season.
