NOTE: No jokes about sexual assault or the alleged victim. Keep it clean, civil and remember Jordan De Goey has only been charged at this stage and NOT found guilty of anything.

Agree. Awful, tone deaf statement.

Tone deaf is precisely the words for it.

We’re talking about actual charges of sexual assault and the statement is essentially “yeah well we insisted it be investigated and it was so whatever, it’s business as usual now”.

It’s the sort of statement you’d expect in response to a newspaper article - Not to actual criminal charges.

These things are not easy to write but the point is you have multiple points of review to ensure it hits the mark. Who the **** has ticked that off, seriously. I would assume it’s the AFL.

Which means its a De Goey problem.
Every club has their players with off field issues.
Channel 7 still hire Wayne Carey and look at the stuff hes done. You need an hour to list his offenses.
Yes it's certainly a De Goey issue, but off-field incidents seem to be common at Collingwood.
Swan, Shaw, Tarrant, Johnson, Wellingham, Stephenson, Didak, Beams, Sidebottom, Lumumba (racism allegations), De Goey, Sidebottom's COVID breach, Thomas, Sam Murray, Lachlan Keefe, Brayden Sier.

That's way too many separate incidents and poor choices. They seriously need get to the bottom of what's happening at Collingwood.

Often sexual related crimes even of the perpetrator is clearly guilty as sin (not eating De Goey is) it’s very hard to get enough evidence to prove it so it gets lost, it’s quite possible here that they were certain back then of guilt but just couldn’t get enough to take them to court but they’ve now got enough.
If he’s guilty the fact he can kick a footy better not mean he gets to stay in the AFL

Yes unfortunately that is true. Sexual assault and rape are very hard to prove in court, which is why so many rapists walk free.

Why the 5 year lag in it being reported... Is it because he is well-known footy player now?

You have no idea how legal systems, victim confidence and due processes work, do you?

You know what...just because Ed's mouth is too big and just because he says lots of stupid sh*t doesn't mean the issue at hand needs to be trivialised.

The revelation is this: it's not about Ed.

But Eddie’s position on the Steven situation was that club officials had a duty to provide the media with a full account of the player’s personal situation.

So based on Eddie’s own logic why is this not about his and Collingwood’s refusal to speak to the media in the way he made the Steven situation about Geelong not speaking to the media?

That’s a very, very poor statement from Collingwood. I’m actually pretty shocked by that.

“Well it was investigated before and he wasn’t charged”

... um, what? He’s been charged now.

“He’ll remain part of the football program”... ie it’s all business as usual here.

These are very serious, sensitive charges. That’s a really ugly boys’ club response.

Whoever ticked that off has had a shocker. You’d hope it wasn’t the AFL or there are real problems.

Maybe I’m not up to speed with typical legal terms but the use of the word historical just made me grin at first, like 2015 was medieval times.

Only prior underworld involvement, sexual assault charges, a sordid history of racism including direct racist remarks from the Prez, nefarious Sunday binges during the season... and on top of that their team is rubbish again.

Not a great week for the club.

How far are we going back now. I dare say we have plenty of players having binge sessions during the season from all clubs.

Can you call them 'so many rapists' just because it was unproven?
How many rapists do we have roaming around?

Also feasible the victim wasn't totally a victim!

Fish rots from the Fat Head. If there was a modicum of decency and sense at Collingwood, JdG would be stood down on wages. But there is not. How long before that Club's license is called into question. At least McGuire does not have the Footy Show to launder out of salary cap $s to his players.

Arguably McGuire is behind only some of Pratt, Elliot, John Wren, Edelston Cronin Hird as a malevolent influence on the game.

It is a very difficult, stressful and horrific process for everyone involved especially a traumatised and scared victim. It’s even more terrifying when it’s someone famous and it’s known the media will be heavily involved. It can take police many years to gather enough evidence before they lay charges, they don’t take it lightly.
We don’t know the allegations yet, sexual assault covers a very wide spectrum.

Was investigated a few years ago not enough evidence they now believe they have enough to warrant charges
