Ruscoe?

No chance Ruscoe departs imo, he was coming on well last year down back but has had a bit of an injury-interrupted season earlier this year and we've been relatively well-preserved down back this year so not many opportunities for him to get and then cement a spot.

Absolutely killed it in the last round against the scum, shame he couldn't back it up in the final the following week.

He's 193cm / 93kg and he's shown an ability to execute aggressive kicks in-board to open up play through the middle which is something Fly appears to value quite a bit. Not someone you give up on at the ripe old age of 20 I don't think. Maybe a Jeremy Howe replacement a couple of years down the line if he can add a bit of zoning off/ intercepting and 1v1 defending to his game?

Interesting don’t see the appeal of a ruckman that can’t run out a game and maintain intensity in todays game…

Maybe our conditioning coach is a lot better than recent years. Our boys ran out a lot of games quite well.

I like Ruscoe - he's a bit rough around the edges but has plenty to work with & develop.

Hill's manager said the trade is basically done already

On the one hand that sounds great because it might be good business, indicates things are going smoothly, trade will get done… on the other you hope it’s not “basically done already” because we were a pushover at the table.

McStay has one of the best kicking actions I’ve seen in players of his size. I think he’ll make the most of whatever scoring opportunities he gets and will also be able to hit targets bringing the ball into our F50.

And I love his positional flexibility. If needed could play and FB, CHB, ruck, CHF or FF to a decent level.

A true utility that is utterly flexible - they are genuinely hard to find.

Bit generous calling Checkers a KPF, he's more Jack Anthony than an actual KPF. But he will definitely have an easier life with McStay next to him.
Oh, I see you’re one of those people who think a player can’t be a KPF if they’re under a certain height, even if they play like a key forward, and line up at FF or CHF.
I should have known 🤦🏼

Why is the media so sure the contract for McStay is a 5 year 3 million offer?

Aren't the contract terms confidential because it's a free agency trade?

Has someone at Brisbane tipped them off?

It's media speculation.

Big players cause headaches…particularly in finals. It’s an important differentiator. I think we are better forward line with McStay but not as good as if we plucked a proper tall.

Do you even watch football? Yes, we are completely fine with our aerial contest creating beast Checkers.

I watch plenty, beginning to doubt that you do. Checkers isn’t the best key tall going around but he’s consistently kicking between 30-40 goals a year playing FF.
I think McStay will help him. I don’t think McStay is magically going to turn in to a 40 goal key forward.

Only if you can successfully argue that a sub 30 goal KPF is better than our current 40 goal KPF.
It's a problem when you only choose one stat and which is goals. It's pretty clear that Cekkers plays much deeper than Mcstay. Indeed I think Cekkers is probably the best key forward in the game for scoring goals from within 10 metres. Mcstay averages more marks, inside 50s, goal assists, clearances, disposal efficiency and a few other stats. Not because he's a better player, but because he plays a different position. I don't think either will be better than the other, nor do I think the coaches will judge them based of isolated stats alone.

Gavin Brown was a true utility. Premier wingman but forced to play various role to help the team.
