Hopefully the Grundy trade brings to an end the decade of incompetence in list management, and we can move forward under new leadership bringing a harder edge to negotiations and structure to player payments.

This trade period feels eerily similar to when we forced Treloar out the door. I'm walking away from this trade period feel meh about our performance balancing the acquisitions, against the restructuring of the salary cap which will no doubt stand us in good stead in years to come.

From what I can see Brisbane, Geelong, Richmond, and Port Adelaide will all be stronger next year, whilst Collingwood has added greater depth (important) there isnt any A grade talent coming into the club.

Just floating a theory. Is the Firorini interest falling flat about list spaces in preparation for the Henry deal falling through?

I like Fiorini now sure we should be going after both Mitchell and Fiorini though.

Bloody Dictator Eddie not there now helps

The grundy trade is beyond a disgrace. Worse then Treloar. If we lose Henry, I'd say this is the worst year in a long time.
Pie continually screw up drafting and trading over the last 10 years. We just haven't got it right.
Who was the last gun outside of father sons that we've traded. Have to be DeGoey and Maynard.

This is what I raised yesterday. The thought did occur to me. List wise. There wouldn''t be room for both.
Captital wise there was talk it would just be a swap of later picks, so cant see that being an issue

What’s crazy though with Grundy leaving our history with 1st round picks is even worse.

1st round picks :
12 -Grundy, Kennedy, Broomhead
13 - Schaz, Freeman
14 - JDG & Moore
15 - n/a (Sier & Phillips year)
16 - n/a (Mclarty & C.Brown)
17 - Stevo
18 - IQ
19 - N/A (Rantall & Bianco)
20 - Ollie & Finlay
21 - Naicos

Prior to Grundy, it was Sidebottom & Pendles.
Let's look at the history of the #35:

11: Fasolo (Left for Carlton in 2018 as UFA)
12: Grundy (Traded to Melbourne for Pick 27 in 2022)
13: Shaz (Delisted at the conclusion of 2020 due to long injury history)
14: JDG (Creates chaos on and off the field but is still on the list)
15: Sier (Delisted at the end of 2021)
16: McLarty (Delisted at the end of 2018)
17: Stevo (Looked good until he decided to donate to the gambling companies when punting on his own performance. Traded to Norf Melbourne for an assortment of picks in 2020 after being a general idiot and needing to dump salary)
18: IQ (Solid, developing defender)
19: Rantall (Delisted after 2021 season)
20: Henry (Wants to be traded 78km down the highway to a place he calls home).
21: Daicos (Exceptionally talented and has done the #35 proud)

So of the 11 players to wear the #35, four (likely to become three) remain on the list.

Our drafting has been awful for a long time, Hine has long gone past his use by date, I made a thread about that like 2 years ago.. wouldn't blame Wright for any of this. If he gives away Henry for peanuts I will happily be angry and point the finger at him for that, the Grundy mess and poor drafting have not been his fault though
I’ve been saying that about Hine for a long time.I think it’s well past time to move him on.I don’t think we can afford to keep carrying a recruiter who gets so many top picks wrong.

Like i said in my earlier threads and got canned ,Grundy was the Treloar deal all over again. Grundy for pick 27 in a shallow draft this will come back to bite us. Doubt it's 150k we have to pay bet it's 300k per year Things will come out later
Let's hope we don't give Henry away for a packet of Chips or we really look like fools.

I stated earlier and i don't like repeating myself Henry for first or future first round pick or straight swap for someone like DeKoning but as usual that wont happen it will most likely be pick 25 and pick 33 for Henry ......A Joke !
Now we have a team of good depth but hardly any gun players you see. Aside from Degoey and an aging Pendlebury and Sidebottom and Moore that's it.
The Daicos boys are a few years away before being AA.
Remember in order to trade in gun players we must give top draft picks or trade out good players, wont happen any other way.
We can go to the draft but the kids take years and cycle turns

Ok let's leave it wright see what happens from i understand Wright believes only in paying big $$$$$$ to midfielders and key position players.
Not peripheral players or hybrid players and Ruckmen.

Maybe he is wright. He has got the scores on the board. See what happens

We get Mitchell most likely with that Pick.

The Treloar Pick was used on Henry who wants out now

We really screwed ourselves with the contract but you have to have a laugh. We got robbed and got a s*t pick ... and are still paying Grundy to play for a fellow premiership contender next season and beyond. ****** Geelong gets Pick 7.

You could look at it differently, though. Gold Coast were also looking for a salary dump, and gave up a decent player plus pick 7 for a junk pick. We completed a salary dump for a good but aging player, and got a 2nd rounder in return. In that context, we did okay.

In reality, it's way under Grundy's value in an open market... but given the contract situation, it's not too bad.
