Mitchell is cleaner than Adams especially by foot and a better clearance player but Adams is more aggressive and bash and crash. The only thing is if I am being picky I worry if both play against taller inside mids they could get hurt when those mids like Cripps and the like drift forward.
I think this might be starting to take a toll. Finding the right balance with them in the middle will be tough and if I’m being honest probably won’t work with how we move the ball (cleanliness trumps hardness, IMO). Personally it’s not a good problem to have compared to say which of JDG or Crisp should he in the middle. I can see a scenario when Adams returns that he’s shifted into the peripheral role which he might really struggle with because of that lack of cleanliness and foot speed.

I keep screwing up the list.

We have 33 seniors and 5 Cat As.

We may still draft 3 players. Or we could just re-sign Poulter and/or Madgen and draft 2.

Hey guys,

Said this in response to a Pies poster on our board who came across with an olive branch, and I'm posting it here in the interest of mending fences as well, as I actually really liked Collingwood this year...and this whole Henry thing came out of nowhere - which turned BF and the wider social discussion into an ugly sh*t fight on both sides.

"I'm actually genuinely happy with this outcome. Eliminates some of the bad blood between clubs (will take a while for it to go away, but the deal was fair for all). We were happy with 25 and 33, and essentially in the end that's what we gave up - if you value Cooper at that pick, which is good all round. Meant you kept 25 and 27 and got Mitchell. Hawthorn got a young talent, and we ended up with Henry without all the nonsense of the draft.

All's well that ends well"

********************

I'm not someone who's said 'Pick 25 hahaha' all along. I actually went on trade radio and said to Rendell that I think it should be Pick 18, and was surprised at how it all played out. In the end, I thought 25 and 33 (Sav) or 25 and a Future 2nd might get it done, and that you'd send one of those picks for Mitchell. In the end, that's pretty much how it worked out - but with Cooper leaving instead of Sav, given our depth in the mids but not down back.

It's been an exhausting trade period, with a lot of chinese whispers and not much fact at all. Both clubs valued Ollie differently in terms of where their list is at, but both clubs did what was right by them - and I actually think we can all say that we got a decent end, but not a perfect one for either side...which is generally when you know a trade is pretty fair all around.

Like last time, I won't outstay my welcome as I'm just passing this on...but hopefully we move on and have a fierce match next year.

Good luck in 2023,

Shadow
Geelong and Henry acted in bad faith the whole way through.
Collingwood were prepared to take unders for him with a future 1st round pick to do the right thing. The kid would be top 5-10 from his draft year.
Geelong scuppered the easy deal and did so in cahoots with Henry to put him into the draft. Draft Tampering 101.
They insulted us with a ridiculous offer and then traded out 1495 points for a pick we didnt want. So why start with stupid offer? You only do this if you plan to screw over the team you are dealing with through the draft. The deal 2 2nd rounders, 2 3rd rounders and a 4th that moves what will be pick 35 to 27-28. 5 picks for 7 spots. You dont do that with out a Plan B and that was screw us over with ollie threatening the draft.

We wont forget, treat people with respect we treated cats with respect it did not come back the other way.
Henry shat on the club the way he left as Collingwood was only good to him glad he is gone. Every pies fan has the right to abuse him given the way he backstabbed the club on the way out. Threatening a team that was acting in good faith to one that wasnt.
A decent person would say Collingwood has been good to me I will leave for Geelong provided a fair deal is arranged, instead he threatened the club and helped facilitate a deal to screw the team that had been good to him.
Mackie has proven himself to be a disingenuous bag of shit where as Wells is a decent person you can trust. We have seen the way Geelong now operate.
Lets not forget Dangerfield having a crack at a kid when he is head of the AFL players union.

I am sorry but Collingwood have right to feel bad blood over the Cats.

Whats worse Geelong and his manager have not had a thought for a 20 year old kid. He could have left on amicable terms now a million people in the country hate him and in my life time of supporting pies he is the biggest traitor in our history. I dont think he has comprehended what he going to cop for the disrespect shown. We will cheer Grundy like we do Treloar but Henry he will need his mummy to cry to.

For now I didn’t include Adams in my best 22 but I did consider moving Crisp back to his old role and kicking out Noble who has flopped in the biggest games which allows a center trio of Adams-Mitchell-DeGoey

Cats board saying Mitchell is the worst Brownlow medallist ever. According to the Cats, apparently they give those medals away. Must explain why Dangerfield won one.

The season after breaking his leg, Mitchell was Hawks B&F winner and polled 25 Brownlow votes the same season. This year he was played out of position. I agree wholeheartedly with you Beeg. The value of a player is what he will bring to a given club and for us, he means clearances and contested possessions - lots of them. An area we needed to strengthen and he's the steal of the draft for mine.
Yep I don't care if never gets another 50 possession game - what we want is 20+ contested clearances a game - THAT is his true worth to us.

Good to have both Adams and Mitchell imo. Not sure how much they play together, but definitely better than neither of them.

I actually think Adams or Mitchell get us to a Gf last season, and who knows from there

Happy we got Mitchell. He should instantly make us better. Hill was worth a punt.
I'll just leave it there ..

Over to Mr Hine now.
Hopefully his 2022 draft haul will be better than the 2020.
2020 was great.

Got us Ginnivan and McCreery who have transformed our forwardline that was previously relying on C.Brown as the small forward.

Macrae and Reef are developing well and will have great long term promise. Reef will have more opportunities with Henry out now and is a more dynamic player.

Henry got us another shot at it with pick 25 this year to spread out the age profile and helped bring in AA-quality Mitchell who is exactly what our list needs.

And go through the same dance in 2 years? or do we believe him being a Pies supporter is enough to stop him "going home" to Geelong?
Ollie didn’t “go home”. He went to play in the same team as his brother. Anyone who believes this would have been an issue if Jack wasn’t playing for the Cats needs their head checked.

He won’t, he’s as soft as they come. He’ll look good against North and then go missing against too 4 teams and finals.
Except that playing for Geelong, he will have some class tall players around him and be able to play a role which will not so obviously expose his defensive weaknesses.

Hawks have picks 6, 24 and then 41.

They offloaded 3 players but also brought in 3 so the question is how many players do they want to draft in their rebuild.

If we trade picks 16, 25 and 26 for pick 6 (which may not be enough in reality) then they would go into the draft with picks 16, 24, 25 and 26.

But this may be more a dream as if the draft drops off after first round then they may be worse off.

Most Disposals in a Game:
1. TM against Pies 2018, (20 kicks, 34 Handballs) Grundy 28 Hit Outs
9. TM against Pies 2017, (22 kicks, 28 Handballs) Grundy 44 Hit Outs.

Both years that Grundy was AA and 2018 TM wins Charlie.

I guess I can see why he should be a valuable addition and also why Grundy is a decent player but his contract was overvalued.

I think it allows someone like Crisp to play more defensive on a guy like Cripps, Mitchell really does open up a lot more options.

Mitchell has one job, see ball, get ball.

Long term I think we would’ve been better off just doing Henry for Stephens and 25. Chances of winning a flag in the immediate future are obviously better with Henry for Mitchell and 25 though. Will be interesting to see how Stephens comes on, personally think he’ll end up being the exact type of player we need in 3-4 years.
We've already got a bunch of young, developing mids - Nick Daicos, Macrae, McInnes, Carmichael, Draper, Harrison.
We needed a mature inside mid to tide us over until these guys are ready to step up.

Are we happy?
What a great outcome - couldn't believe it when I saw that we effectively traded Ollie for Pick 25 and Mitchell - that could be amongst the best trades of the period - not because of the player that Mitchell was for the Hawks, but for the effect that he will have on our team - if he was in our side in the Semi Final, I'm confident that we beat the Cats - they had 3 or 4 centre bounce clearances that resulted in goals - that won't happen with Mitch. Cherry on top of the cake is that the work experience boy running the Geelong negotiations learnt a lesson or two from GW and we're older and wiser about the Cat's approach to recruiting and Ollie's management team, small price to pay for such a good lesson.

That fits with it being an underrated move. I personally don’t think it’s to slag us off or anything I just think the league is sleeping on Mitchell. It just became a poor fit under S Mitchell. The only lingering query out of the trade period is what it all means for Adams. He and Mitchell are strikingly similar, but Mitchell doesn’t come with the injury queries…

They can co-exist IMO
