What would Adams be worth. I don't think Sydney would be willing to give up pick 8. I think Grundy may have payed a sneaky role in this.

Have you got 8. I thought you had 11?

I think 11 for Adams and 18. Or pick 23. would do it in 5 minutes. Think you'll be offering 31.

Sydney have 11, 23, 31, 44, 52.

Lost 3 players due to retirements, none delisted as yet.

I would be surprised if they offer 23 for Adams.
They're not going to offer it - no club would. I'm expecting them to suggest Pick 23 or a fringe player. We'll say no and ask them to find a better selection. When they refuse, that's when more than one club will get involved.

Wrighty is well-respected in trade circles so it makes dealings easier.

What’s preventing us from using 23 to bring someone in? Moving Adams on creates cap space so is it so unbelievable we won’t make a late play at Holmes (for example). I’d be making a play at Sheldrick personally, but I don’t think we’ll sit on our hands too much in regards to our best 25 given Adams move.
I just don’t want to be taking 23 to the draft with a good chance the kid never makes it and while we’re at the top with the best side in the comp

If they make the trade with Sydney for 23 and nothing materialises with another player we target and get stuck with it… then we’re in trouble

Either they hand over one of their players who we like that would be best 22 - even if we have to send them our first pick - or a 3 way trade like Ollie and Mitchell - which secures a good player in return like those you suggested

Draft picks / blooding in kids like macrae (who probably isn’t good enough) so they don’t leave the following season doesn’t help us
Do we want to be waiting another 13 years for the next flag

1. 44 will drop after Academy and F/S selections. So we are then talking a pick in the late 30s

Said pick can then be bundled up and traded out

2. They are not going to force Adams to stay if he doesn’t want to be there

3. Grundy will go for pick 31. He went for 27 last year. He’s worth more than Adams

That leaves pick 44 or a future second from swans (like to be in 30s) at very best

Swans aren’t giving up their second highest pick of the draft for a 30 year old battered mid.

Nor are they giving us pick 23 for Adams and pick 36

This is classic Bigfooty. A lot of posters think pies players are worth a premium whilst players from other clubs should be for free
I think the imponderables you are not considering are TA’s intimate knowledge of our game plan, training and performance drills, relationship with Grundy, together with his leadership and fierce competitiveness.
For a team in the flag window, these factors must add a premium to his value.

I'd love Angus Sheldrick but I doubt they would hand him over.

We paid Pick 44 for Lipinski and a third rounder for Frampton.

Melbourne wants Grundy to leave, hence they'll get a low offer in return. We don't want Adams to leave. He's contracted. We can afford his contract. They're going to need more than Pick 44 to prise him out. We can and most certainly will force VC Adams to stay if we can't find a deal.

If he's so battered, why are they chasing him?

You all want to trade him for pick 23 which becomes 30 anyway why?
If Tom Mitchell gets injured like what happened to Adams during finals - with no Adams to replace what he gives to the side - we definitely won’t win the flag next season
Then Sidey Pendles Howe Elliott retire
Cox Mihocek Cameron Mitchell another year older and closer to retirement
Like 2010 all over again - this side has another flag in them and you want to trade out one of our top experienced players for an unproven kid who won’t be ready for 2 seasons and may be another Macrea, McInnes, poulter, Draper, Murley, Randall, bianco, Ollie
If he’s off to Sydney we need a player who is best 22 and will have an impact not a draft pick - macrea isn’t good enough to replace Tom Mitchell if he goes down
We've got Macrae, Harrison, Allan in waiting. At some point, you have to let the little birds fly and leave the safe nest of the VFL or else they're "prospects" for the rest of time. Macrae, with another pre-season, steps up. Some on here have made him out to be a failure. I see him as a 21 year old who will step up next season.

He's not a salary dump.

SWANS LOOK TO LOAD UP

SYDNEY'S pick No.23 shapes as a central plank in the club's bid to secure all of its trade targets, after winning a commitment from contracted Collingwood midfielder Taylor Adams on Sunday.

The Swans are set to be among the busiest clubs during this year's Trade Period and will also look to secure a deal for contracted Demons ruckman Brodie Grundy, having already secured free agent duo James Jordon and Joel Hamling.

As reported by AFL.com.au on Sunday, Adams is the next to signal his intentions to secure a move to Sydney after being offered a longer deal and having missed Collingwood's premiership victory due to a hamstring injury.

The Swans are unlikely to part with their first pick (currently No.11) in any potential deals for Adams or Grundy, meaning their second selection at No.23 is set to play a significant part in ensuring they can seal moves for all of their trade targets.

Sydney has pick No.23 courtesy of a swap deal with Hawthorn during last season's national draft, while it also currently has picks No.31, 44 and 52 among its suite of selections.

Adams, a 206-game player at both Greater Western Sydney and Collingwood, has one season to run on his contract at the Magpies but has been lured to a Swans team hoping to bolster their midfield depth. – Riley Beveridge

They don't give us pick 23 then we hold him to his contract. It's not like we are desperate and why would we want to make a contender stronger
I doubt we hold Adams to his contract, if they do make him stay the environment that fly and co have made in the short term could all be undone. Can’t imagine holding a guy to ransom who clearly doesn’t wanna be there.

I'd love Angus Sheldrick but I doubt they would hand him over.
Same, Gus is a gun but we ain’t getting him. But if Wrighty pulls off a gun player trade in through the Tay trade, give the man a lifetime contract and a statue outside the AIA Centre.

A Wicks for some forward depth COULD be gettable.

Florent, Hayward, Rowbottom, LoMac are the No goes and pipe dreams

I’m assuming there’ll be a tonne of theories as to why Tay is leaving.

But I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s as simple as him finding it difficult to be around knowing he missed the flag.

Kinda like having your ex be part of the friendship group.

Do you think this has materialised out of nowhere over the last 8 days?

Sydney have 11, 23, 31, 44, 52.

I would be surprised if they offer 23 for Adams especially with the Grundy trade in the mix and what Melb would want.

how could Melbourne possibly expect to get pick 23 for Grundy when they only offered us pick 27 with us paying part of his wage.
Adams is a contracted player, he is choosing to leave us, pick 23 is the only pick that they currently have that will get it done

It’s as simple as he’s got a 3 year contract for his last contract in the afl. Wish him all the best
