But we have Billy turning 32. Bobby can play wing. Beau could spend time in the midfield. With such an ageing list, I just don't see the logic in losing young players with such potential & high footy IQ.

We don't have the same 22-23 players available every week, for a variety of reasons.

I sincerely hope Ginni, his manager & the coaches have all reaffirmed their commitment to each other this past week so this latest media frenzy doesn't push him out the door.

I don’t think Ginni’s potential is that high, and I certainly don’t want to shoehorn Bobby and Beau into positions they may not be ready for or suited to, to appease Ginni.

If Ginni wants to be a defensive mid, that’s great, crack in. But it’s survival of the fittest in whatever position he wants to play, he’s not a Swiss Army knife like Nick who can almost play positionless football.

In fairness, Ginni has a nickname with a soft “G” sound and a moniker of Guinea Pig with a hard “G”, it’s pretty clunky and inconvenient.

I'm not sure that's the case. I said earlier today that I hope Ginnivan uses the acquisition of Schultz in a similar way to how Murphy used the acquisition of Frampton last year. Ginnivan is a crafty goalsneak. In my view, he should be working hard to cement himself a spot in the position he has made a name for himself in. He won't be a defensive mid after one pre-season training in that position, and to me it reads as trying to find a spot for him simply because it's Jack Ginnivan, rather than acknowledging that there's at least one other genuine midfielder that deserves a crack in the guts ahead of him.

Just because I don't think the most mild of critiques is a personal attack on him, doesn't mean I have an "anti Ginni agenda." He overall had a down year despite the flag. He'd be the first to admit. If he chooses take Schultz's arrival as motivation to fight hard for his spot that'll only make the team better.

You are correct - because he has a contract for 2024, he would be UFA.
The whole compensation pick setup is bullshit - they should get rid of it.
NM get pick 3 for Ben McKay? - That's just excrement.

Schultz also definitely isn’t attracting anymore than end of first round compo next year anyway.

No chance his $ are high enough to be anymore.

That pick will pushed back another couple with the Camporeale twins, Levi Ashcroft and potentially northern academy kids.

So any compo pick next year is also going to be Pick 23’ish anyway.

They may as well take it this year with our Pick 18 which will be about the same.

Edit- looks like the north concession picks are after the end of first round free agency compo picks. Which makes zero sense… but hey that’s the AFL for you.

Regardless of getting Mitchell.

Geelong the muts traded out the 1st rounder straight away so they didn't have to give us one.

It was a grub move.

Worked out well for us in the end.

I don’t really watch Freo games, how often does Schultz spend on the middle? Could potentially be a straight swap for Adams role wise.

Probably trade wise also. Adams to Sydney, pick 23 to Freo, Schultz to us.
