Ginnivan trade feels like a move that Richmond would have made in their flag years. Trade role players while they have some value rather than getting in a bidding war to retain them. Higgins is a good example.

In previous years I reckon we would have offered an extra year or two at more $ to keep Adams & Ginnivan and ended up screwing our cap.
That's definitely true. Eddie would have demanded they be paid whatever they wanted to keep them.

And as sad as I am about Jack leaving & disappointed in Adams leaving.. paying both those players more & for longer just to stay, was not in the club's best interests.

He's operating the exact same way he did at the Hawks.

Great when your club is on up. Just be wary when it starts trending down.

Pays overs. Takes unders. Always gets his man though.
I mean, we got Hill for pick 38, and Mitchell for a bag of twisties last year, so not all our trades have been overs.

If you want some entertainment he’s on trade radio right now 😆
I listened and he should stick to negotiating because he somehow interviews worse!! What utter crap about open dialogue. He looks a fool and he knows it.

Do we read anything into that Hawthorn poster's comment that Wrighty is good on the way up but not on the way down?
I’m not sure what the term would be, but it’s a bit captain obvious. You start declining when you aren’t getting good value from pro scouting and his record is pretty strong at Collingwood with 7 best 23 additions in three off seasons.

Is Mackie the biggest schmuck in the league currently? Low balled us on Henry, refused to engage on Ratugalea and then caves once he twigs it was a fair offer!
I never ntoiced how much of a flog he was as a player , until my Geelong supporting mates pointed it out. They hated his guts even as a player. The more I watched him then, the more I realised they were right. He's now just crrying on where he left off

Which of his Collingwood trades fit that profile?

I'd say Schultz personally but you need to strike when the iron is hot and he's a quality player.

It's been a pretty unexciting trade period with what's on offer. For Collingwood to take the best quality talent and other competitors arguably not moving the needle much is a great result.

He has yet to have a Wingard/JOM moment.

They’ll laud him for their glory years but turn once their list starts to fade. If Ned Guy won a flag in 2018, we may have viewed things differently.

His plan was involved us winning premierships so players would voluntarily take a pay cut.

Geelong blinked 😂
Damn. I was really hoping that Port would pick him up in the ND and the cats would walk away with nothing but shame and self loathing.

Now that we're not getting Billings, do we all go back to thinking that he's s**t. I don't know what I was thinking
I never stopped thinking he was shit. Sorry unplugged

One aspect of Wright's approach that I've not seen commented on is that the speed at which he completes deals provides a lead time to adjust - we could have held out on the Adams deal until the last minute, and all we'd end up with is maybe a pick 5-10 spots better than we ended up with.

Closing the Adams deal quickly gave us time to acquire Schultz and then for Ginni to determine that that Hawks were a better fit. My guess is that all three players are feeling a lot better about trade week then Ratuglea is.

So Schultz in, Adams and Ginnivan out? Yeah that's a stinker of a trade period with half a dozen players due to retire after next season, we needed to go all in.
Good to see you’re back to your old positive self after that week or so of uncharacteristically happy posting.

Remember that time last year you said our coaching panel needed to be overhauled? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
