This is a poor comment, he's had some decent games and it's only his first year on the list, from what I imagine is a massive step up.
Richards has had multiple games of 15+ disposals and scoreboard impact. Maybe watch some VFL before offering expert comment.
I did watch the VFL and for the most part, Richards was absent. His 15+ disposal games were rare, as was his scoreboard impact. Normally, his scoreline would be 10 disposals, 1.1. That's not promising for a player touted to debut early. Murley showed more on the wing. At his current rate, he would be lucky to earn a new deal, let alone play AFL. I'm critical because we blindly waltzed into taking a kid on the back of Reid's over-inflated opinion. The next time we like a country star, we should invite them to play VFL first before signing or let another club risk it.

Yeah, obviously we could have exercised that contract without extending, but it creates a risk of a disgruntled player and less trade return next year. A few years back we probably extend their contracts though to eliminate that risk
And that's exactly what would have happened. Eddie would have ensured both Adams & Ginni got ridiculously long term contracts on big bucks just to keep them.

And we've all seen how every single of those past players have turned out & more importantly what a mess it left at our club when we were still in a premiership window.

If they were willing to leave because another club offered them more money & a longer contract & opportunity to play in their preferred position...oh well, it's their career & their decision.

Will still look weird seeing both Adams & Ginni in different colours. But you eventually get over it. 😉

I can't see us taking a 100kg Half Back flanker who has already done an ACL and may have already reached his peak. If he was inside mid then maybe. I think we'll be more than happy to have a developing mid like DeMattia
Stevens is an inside midfielder, though.

Although the attention he got at Collingwood was largely brought upon him by himself.
Heath reminds me of Ginni. Both little agitators that require much patience and seemed to take footy as a joke. Not saying players have to be ernest about it but some appreciation for the level is needed.

Didn’t Ollie Henry’s Mum complain that Nick Daicos was getting all the attention? Ollie Henry needed more fawning over him, I tell you, and he would never have needed to go on his Quixotic journey half an hour up the road. More fawning!
So he goes to Geelong where they have Dangerfield, Hawkins, Cameron, etc running around?

I think you have this all wrong. It was never about attention.

It was because there was no parent parking bays at the club for Ollie’s mum when she dropped him off or picked him up after training.

In the end she just had enough.

Now she just tells him to walk across the road in Geelong.

Is he allowed to cross the road?

Thats what I was thinking re first year on the list. Lots of wannabe list managers putting a line through him for no real reason, especially after he had the big 8-10 week hammy, lets see what he can do with another pre season and a good run at it

Sofranidis might find it a little easier than Richards seeming he has had a bit more TAC Cup/VFL experience before going back to the amateur level for lifestyle choices. Worth a punt with a late pick

can any VFL watchers answer following:

how far away is Allan from playing seniors?

what are his skills like?

thks
Allan was considered at some point in the year and could have played if we needed him to. Excellent skills, very consistent, and has dual-sided kicking. With another pre-season, expect him to continue to develop. One of the most mature blokes on our list - you wouldn't pick him to be under twenty.

Except we traded our F2 to slide down the order as it wasn't required to take Richards. Meanwhile, Carlton swooped and took Lachie Cowan.

This thread took a turn, I just wanted to come in and pipe up about the blatant PR spin Lucas tried to do because it’s so incredibly poor that a vice captain actively sought out to leave in the biggest weeks of the year. It’s soiled his reputation and you can’t come back from that.

Anyway, go back to the rubbish, Ginnivan left because he wasn’t good enough and he knows it. Who cares. Enjoy your Fridays
Graham Wright speaks about the events that led to Adams leaving, in the post draft interview on the Club's website. Tay approached McRae about the chances of getting more midfield time in 2024. When McRae couldn't guarantee this, he discussed seeking alternatives. Collingwood was happy to accomodate him. A leadership player and a ten year servant of the club wouldn't be hindered as he pursued greater opportunities elsewhere. All done properly and I dare say, with respect and love.

It puzzles me Ginnivan, who seeks attention, left a club where he had hoards of fans hanging on to him. Hawthorn is a big club but not to the level of Collingwood. They're also nowhere near a premiership.

Very hard to have fans hanging on to you when you’re in the VFL for a prolonged time.

Neither will be playing now. We don't need future talent when we're in the window. Focus on the now. I'd be taking the kid who had 29 disposals against us and men in the VFL, not a kid who looked good at U/18 level.

When picking first at #20-odd, you take the player who has the best chance of being a long-term best-23 player in whatever position. You probably won’t have multiple options in terms of position who project to that level at that pick, and if you simply want someone who can play right now, you’re getting Carmichael types late in the draft or as DFAs.

"...Quixotic journey..."

Good thing I didn’t write “erotic journey from Milan to Minsk” then!

this is complete crap from Lucas. he reckons the vice captain of Collingwood had no say in being shopped to another club whilst in contract? who shops a club leader to another club without their knowledge?

he's a clown.
That’s not what he said.
