I know he's contracted with the Dockers until 2026, but I wonder we should make a move at some point on the woefully under-utilised Will Brodie. Might bolster our powerful midfielder stocks as Mitchell winds down. Your thoughts?

The time to get him was when he was leaving the Suns for peanuts, not from Freo now that his value is up.

As I said overs! Why couldn’t we get overs for Henry and Ginivan, they were also contracted
Henry wasn't contracted and if we wanted to keep Ginnivan we would have.

The equation is no longer as simple as pick for player. Salary plays a massive role in the equation now. He was supposedly on a very low contract for Freo next year - thus increasing his alue to them. Then it's clear from that article that he wanted to move to a Melbourne club - not hellbent on Collingwood. Sounds to me like we were the ones willing to pay Freo's price. What does that mean in terms of his salary with us? Who knows?

Basically unless you actually know the bloke's salary and have some way of evaluating salary against draft picks, you really can't judge a trade.

We just need to look at it as CFC getting the jump on the other clubs - we paid a bit extra to get him now, rather than enter a bidding war as it probably would have been next year, if he hadn't settled on a specific club.
We may have ended up paying more for him then, and we get the benefit of him playing for us next year, rather than Freo.

I'm hoping the thought process is to stock picks to package up for a team needing points and put us somewhere back into first round next years draft.

So much of it is unknown to us and just too hard to evaluate.

Gresham came for "free". How does Schultz compare to Gresham as a player? And how much are they being paid respectively. Fair chance that Gresham is on a fair bit more as he was a FA. How does a fair bit more equate in terms of draft picks? It's all just a **** knows for me. I'm just looking forward to seeing him play.

We've had a few big misses as well.
Scharenberg and Freeman, when we could have picked Cripps - we wouldn't have had inside mid problems if we'd gone that way.
Interesting that in that draft Barrass was 43, Ben Brown was 47 and Sicily was 56.
Stevo instead of Naughton.
Henry instead of Holmes.

But yeah, Tambling instead of Franklin takes the cake.

Obese Arachnid instead of Fat Jesus was the biggest FU of the millennium.
What could have been.

Not one of, it's the all time FU of all selections ever taken place in draft history.
This one wins hands down & by jeebus I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stephen O'Reilly for - Pick 16, pick 46, $1m fine, pick 1, 2, 17 and 33 in the 2003 draft, pick 1 in the 2003 PSD, 1st and 2nd round picks in the 2004 draft.

In hindsight yeah. Guess similar the Pies and Pav. Though talk at the time had Tambling one the best draft prospects. Then imagine Hawks taking Roughead at 2 and Tigers did take Buddy at 4.

Blake Coleman is the younger brother by a couple of years. For some reason, very likely profound ignorance, I thought Keidean was the younger one. Makes me even more interested in Blake for a packet of chips…

Weak list, although if there was a team to target, it would be Port Adelaide.
Port are going to be an interesting watch next year. Very good list who just came off a pretty good season which finished with Hinkley being spat on by multiple supporters as he made his way to the rooms. And then in a furious mood he gave the team an almighty spray - so much so that the players who didn't make the team were glad they hadn't played. Butters and his contract status is going to be one to watch in the coming years.

He'd be a handy pickup.
He could play for the Real Magpies.

I woukd hate to see a fine club break down into a train wreck.

Likewise Melbourne, although not a great club but still hate to see it.

We could drool over maybe nabbing Petracca or Butters or some other decent player but I'd rather see them firing and beat them when they have no excuses.

Happened to us with Treloar and Grundy and others and it felt terrible. Wouldn't wish it on others.
