I can think of one possible exception- Nathan Ablett at GC Suns?

They can't come to terms with not dominating the comp.I woukd hate to see a fine club break down into a train wreck.
Likewise Melbourne, although not a great club but still hate to see it.
We could drool over maybe nabbing Petracca or Butters or some other decent player but I'd rather see them firing and beat them when they have no excuses.
Happened to us with Treloar and Grundy and others and it felt terrible. Wouldn't wish it on others.
Fiora to Richmond at 3 instead of Pavlich at 4 was a howler also. We've had a few big misses as well.
Scharenberg and Freeman, when we could have picked Cripps - we wouldn't have had inside mid problems if we'd gone that way.
Interesting that in that draft Barrass was 43, Ben Brown was 47 and Sicily was 56.
Stevo instead of Naughton.
Henry instead of Holmes.
But yeah, Tambling instead of Franklin takes the cake.
But that is yet to happen. If clubs have committed to matching, they match regardless of where the bid is.Stick to fantasy footy. No club will risk being stuck with a player they don’t want as “strategy”.
Not at all. We had an offer in May, he held off, said it was for more value, but actually, part of his plan to run home. Mason Cox was so understanding about his situation of wanting be closer to home when Henry lived an hour away from mum.Henry wasn’t contracted though?
?? He wasnt contracted. Just because you have an offer doesnt make you contracted for next year. Not at all. That’s what I was saying. He could have signed and we tried but Ollie wanted out, as was his plan from about May.?? He wasnt contracted. Just because you have an offer doesnt make you contracted for next year.
Then why did you say 'no not at all' when all Apex said was that he wasnt contracted. That’s what I was saying. He could have signed and we tried but Ollie wanted out, as was his plan from about May.
You’re just misreading what he wrote. I understood what he meant. Then why did you say 'no not at all' when all Apex said was that he wasnt contracted.
Same difference they still needed to trade for him.Henry wasnt
It’s been said many times since that nearly every recruiter would’ve taken Tambling with the same pick. In hindsight you wonder how.Richmond committed one of the all time great draft f**k ups picking Richard Tambling ahead of Buddy Franklin.
Come on… Bobby was 22 when we traded him in, of course he was going to develop further, that’s a natural part of being a young footballer finding your feet. To say that McStay can magically develop into a top 4-5 league KPF after 9 years of playing/developing is nonsense. He is what he is, if he can get 1.5-2 goals per game next year he’s probably exceeding expectations.Just on McStay, there seems to be a feeling in here that he is not a prize KPF, and he isn't - yet!
Bobby Hill is now a prize small forward, all through player development.
Could fairly speculate that since the end of 21, we've developed no names into back page news, RamBeau off the top off my head.
I'm going fairly assume that we not only brought in McStay to win a flag, but to develop what the Pies brains trust see as the potential.
Yep I'm saying it, me reckons that Dan could be that top 4-5 league KPF - next year.
Think about, his development was dogged by injury at the wrong times this year. If he gets a clean run at it I reckon he could be a 40-50 goaler next year, that'd be huge upside for us and would bolster our chance to snag another whilst in this window.
Guys who change clubs are often better in their second seasonCome on… Bobby was 22 when we traded him in, of course he was going to develop further, that’s a natural part of being a young footballer finding your feet. Please don’t act like Dan is a developing player. Free agents are what they are, he’s the finished product, and that’s ok, he’s what we need with our forward line makeup. A mobile tall that doesn’t often get outmarked, who can bring the ball to ground and let our smalls get to work.
So following that, the Dazzler wins the Brownlow, Mitchell stars in the midfield all season and has 55 in a game, Frampton has four touches in the Grand Final and McStay kicks 40 in a season.Guys who change clubs are often better in their second season
What I didn't bring up, is that, in his career at the Brions he was never the 1st or 2nd banana.Come on… Bobby was 22 when we traded him in, of course he was going to develop further, that’s a natural part of being a young footballer finding your feet. McStay is there so that we get more goals from bombs to the hotspot - either him directly clunking and converting or creating dangerous spills. He might already be top 5 for that. He's never going to be a big goal scorer however as he's pretty limited without an offensive ground level game or the pace to get or hold separation and thus get his share of goals from a variety of situations. What I didn't bring up, is that, in his career at the Brions he was never the 1st or 2nd banana.
He has that chance now, I also was probably a bit simplistic in the 'development' part.
If he gets a good run at it, he may develop in game (our game vs the brions), not so much as a 'player'
Ok maybe 4-5 top leaguer KPF is a little optimistic, but I think he can be our no.1 KPF and a pretty good one at that, maybe even better than Checkers.
And ultimately that may give a better than 'now' situation to snag another flag.
I don't disagree with any of that, just pointing out that if he gets a good run at it, he may improve in our system like others have compared to their previous teams.McStay is there so that we get more goals from bombs to the hotspot - either him directly clunking and converting or creating dangerous spills. Didn't Buddy tank his interview to deter other clubs? It’s been said many times since that nearly every recruiter would’ve taken Tambling with the same pick. In hindsight you wonder how.
When was the last time we let go of a fringe player who ended up having a great career? Heath Scotland?
No current season stats available
And got put on the special juice with the rest of the team.Mal Michael was not fringe, 8th in Copeland one year, but he became a much better player at Brisbane
Bulked up, became more daring, integral to Brion's triple premiership
