If Cal has the right range he might need to fall a bit more to get to us coming in at around 24. But if it does continue up to be a possibility I wonder what the knocks on him are considering how in vogue key backs are and how eager clubs are to secure them.
STRENGTHS:

  • Aerial ability
  • Competitiveness
  • Composure
  • Intercept marking
  • Kicking
  • Upside

IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Defensive craft
  • Strength

Sounds like a forward honestly.

Some conjecture with Cal Twomey here. Tend to agree more with Cal given he is closer to the source.

Bullshit!!!
(In a positive way!)

Think the quote is a bit OTT if real,
But FMD.

I can def see the tigers recruiter calling it.
Same guy that passed on buddy?
If so….he’s hardly a beacon for “I’m good at my job”!!
Apex 36 is correct. Hine was interviewed on Fox Footy in 2015. 2005 was his first year in charge. After the draft Wilson blasted the pick of Pendles as a Monumental Mistake which would stuff us up for years. Richmond laughed that Hine had stuffed up his pick and "couldn't believe their luck that their player was still available at their pick'. This was a club that stuffed up an entire generation of draft picks until 2006. This interview is online

I think the impact of Melbourne lockdowns might still be washing through the drafts. Two years gone as a 12-13 year old might be a bigger hit tan those from 2020 draft got hit with - both in terms of retention within the sport and development. I wouldn't be surprised if Vic metro have a few lean years.

Don’t mind that as a theory- with zero empirical evidence it sounds reasonable. Maybe raises the chance of more, or at least a few, later pics coming good?

And the corollary is that maybe some of the top kids aren’t as good? Lord knows how you factor that into selecting choices.

Makes the achievements so far of Sir Nick all the more remarkable

Richmond committed one of the all time great draft f**k ups picking Richard Tambling ahead of Buddy Franklin.

I thought the same, but we bid on him after GWS matched Reef. We must have been keen.
We finally reached the correct facts, but are still stuck on the wrong conclusion.

While it's possible that it was due to legitimate interest, there's definitely another possibility that's not being considered - That we bid on him just to give us enough time to orchestrate a trade for the pick, which we ended up making.

After failing to make an impact in three years on a list, any interest we might have had would probably have waned by now anyway.

Good point.

Id love us to do a Sandy Dragons double with Murphy and Edwards fat chance one of them making it to our 2nd pick though lol. Be lucky if one of em is there at our first.

A friend has been raving about a young player named Will Dawson. I know nothing of him. Has anyone who follows potential draftees seen him play or have any info on him?

Wil Dawson
State: Victoria Country
State League Club: Gippsland Power
Community Club: Leongatha
Date of Birth: 20/12/05
Height: 200cm

Developed as a potential tall defender throughout the year but also played up forward and in the ruck. Still developing physically having grown 20cm in the past two years but has maintained his ability at ground level, where he is clean below the knees. Doesn’t turn 18 until late December making him only just eligible for this year’s Draft. Showed distinct promise in his 13 games for the Gippsland Power in the Coates Talent League as well as for Victoria Country, where he displayed aggression and intensity in the way he attacked the ball.

He’s only 17 and will turn 18 on 20th December. He’ll be a slow burner.

Holy cow an absolute bottom-ager Hine will be frothing at the mouth over him...

I've been told that Coleman runs like Ginnivan. Spicer is another delisted small forward we were keen on in that draft. I think he'd be more likely. But I doubt it, small forward was a glaring deficiency at the time, which is now a major strength.

Does he kick like his brother though?

He must have some serious skill if he was rated that highly and is a poor runner.

But they've played him as a small forward, so not going to slice through presses the way his brother does. With our transition strategy, I'd be interested in how keen on his brother we'd be

Just on that, has Daniel Rich retired? If not I'm surprised no one went after him. They can't play both him and Coleman and if you want a kicker from defence there isn't much better kick around.

Yeah I think he has, I believe it was mentioned when he and Fev were roosting Sherrins into the Yarra on GF Day.
