The club is just doing their due diligence meeting with him.

He is getting long in the tooth, however he is still a class footballer, which is why the club is considering the acquisition. Yes the injury clouds what he will look like upon a return, but that is why he is in this position where we can pick up for nothing.

I am in the camp to pick him up, I think his upside value and low acquisition cost outweigh the opportunity cost of picking up an unproven youngster. I would argue as well, there is an opportunity to eliminate the opportunity cost too, pending the option to put him on the long-term injury list and replace him with a SSP selection after the drafting period.

Very easy to lose your zip with an Achilles tendon even more so at 30+. I wonder if by ruptured they mean the same as torn or snapped because if snapped it goes off like gunshot and very hard to recover from.

I like this part:

CAP SPACE

The chase for Tom Doedee shows how much cap space the Pies had this season despite missing out on the intercept defender.

As his price tag escalated past $750,000 - and even close to $800,000 if industry sources are to be believed - the Pies were still in it.

I like Doedee but for $750k + forget it! I hope we have some juicy trades lined up for next year.

If Wingate fit ??and willing to come over on a short deal for a shot at premiership glory

…why not for a team with an ordinary draft hand chasing back to back glory ?

Back to back is like the under 25 years of age European Contiki holiday… take it all in now and worry about the bill later

If the (salary) cap fits then I’d rather a wingard right to go late in the season.

.. than superstar pick up from the bush or metro league

'The dual All-Australian is set to go under the knife in the coming days and will be forced to overcome a long road back with recovery time between nine to 12 months.'

Yeah, and if the club recruits him then clearly the recovery timeframe will be closer to 9 months which means he will easily play in 2024.

Even if it's closer to 12 months he'll still get back for the last few rounds plus finals

Good Wingard is pretty good, but he does drop his head and give up when it’s not going his way.

It’s not like he’s going to be chasing and tackling like a mad man after an Achilles and at his age.

I read a story saying if another club took him Hawks would have to pay the difference. So if that’s right we could get him for nothing and on minimum wage, which sounds like an a good deal.

FMD why would we want that spud, this has to be a pistake!
Spud. How I hate that word. Have a look at his highlight reel. He has not lived up to the early hype but some on this forum never learn.

We've all been raving about last year's trading and how brilliant and specific our targeting was. 31 is no longer retirement age or an indication of a player being old and past it.

I trust our recruiting team and if they think this classy potential match winner can add something to our team then try and get him.

We have all seen what a change of environment can do for players considered "past it" and he may have 3 good years in his legs.

We're all entitled to our opinions. I'm hoping we got the medical done & decided no, and he stays a Hawk.

He’s always been up and down and injury prone. No thanks! We compromise our future for not much I. Return, much rather see Reef, Macrae or Allan given a go.

Each to their own, I guess. I'd pass on a 31 year old that 'may possibly' be available on the eve of finals.
Wright and Fly may possibly be out of their minds.
No clue hey?

We’re taking 3 picks into this draft same as last year. For a practical example who’s offering more across 2024-5 Joe Richards or Chad Wingard? I’m not excited by the thought of him holding HH or Macrae out of the best 23, but I think our chances of going back to back are better with him on the list than any alternative at pick 60 odd in this draft.

A fit Wingard would be handy in our forward set-up. There is no harm in the club giving him a physical to gather some intel on the recovery from the achilles injury in particular.
If the news came back positive, then we may seriously consider using our third pick in the draft to take him or if he commits to us prior to the draft, we take him in the DFA period 3 after the draft.
Hawthorn may have to offer him an additional year for him to want to head back there. We would be offering him 2 years to their one.

Heard we got Clayton Oliver in to check out progress with his foot tatt

McStay’s dad said it still looks sh*t

I hate it when you make sense. Absolutely spot on. A finals side next year with a fit Wingard is going to make us even better

Does he have to nominate for the draft? If so, chances are he's going to be with us next year

I’d be in the no camp for Wingard. It gives me flashbacks to recruiting Daniel Wells.
