I’m quietly hoping that Hawks don’t offer us anything suitable and we actually keep Ginni. Then I hope he trains hard and plays a role for us next season.
If we are genuinely a back to back chance, and I think we are, you won’t get more impact with that pick on next season. Worst case he plays worse and we trade him at seasons end for a third rounder. No big difference.

It’s a first rounder or nothing for me.

Surely you are not that stupid?
This thread and some of the comments I've read online elsewhere today, have been some of the most stupid, brain dead, moronic stuff I've read in a long time.

It seems people are willing to believe absolutely anything when it suits their narrative. No matter how ludicrous.

inb4 someone mentions Frampton.
Gardiner doesn't play ahead of Howe, Murphy and Moore. Admit it, we would have been cooked without Billy this year, chopped out in the ruck, played roles everywhere

He's only got one more year left on his current deal doesn't he? we can't ask for a first rounder for a guy who spent the majority of the year in the vfl lol, plus all the baggage from the dumb things he does. That 40 goal year he won't do again without the high frees unfortunately. I like him but maybe time to move on

Ed Allan, Reef, McRae, a fit McStay, a mature Johnson are the guys that will enhance us in 2024. Ginni might have potential but since the umpires have targeted him his ability to generate goals has dried up.

I feel a bit bad because I know he’s a fan favourite but I’m hoping the Ginnivan trade goes ahead tomorrow (and have been hoping so since the first rumours during the season) and I wouldn’t mind taking a punt on someone like Billings. In fact I’m thrilled with Schultz improving that area of the field and think it’s a great coup, giving us the best small forwards in the league (equal to Brisbane perhaps).

Ginnivan has some good traits and a good goal sense but he is really, really slow paced and that just doesn’t work in our system. Not to mention all the attitude / off field question marks. To me the writing was on the wall when I heard that he wanted to turn himself into a defensive mid. That just doesn’t work for anyone and sounded like a desperate plan, as it’s a square peg in a round hole.

I tend to agree but he is still very young and could quite easily become a quality player in the future but I think his career was always going to be cut short after they targeted him for ducking. It doesn't look like he can remove the duck from his game and that's not good

Ginni’s 40-goal season was a one-off.

Since the AFL very deliberately and unfairly decided to single him out as a villain for extracting high contact frees, the flow of goals has slowed to a trickle.

Without the frees and associated goals, he has been exposed as slow, unable to get separation or take overhead marks, and unwilling to chase and tackle.

Those limitations will see Ginni playing VFL not AFL if he stays at Collingwood. Even moreso when you factor-in his questionable off-field behaviours and sub-standard professionalism.

More and more Ginni’s career path looks to be closely following Stevenson’s. If Hawthorn offers their F2 pick for him we should grab it and run.

Carlton have two. Bris have Ashcroft. There’s a couple more.
Carlton had the Camporeale twins and Beaumont's son.

The year after is Andrew Walkers son who might be number 1 like his dad.

So Carlton are going to be stacked with talent.

I would be more comfortable if we picked up another player with experience.

Billings would be a last resort. Hoping for someone 25 or younger.

They'll let it pass if we're getting (and retaining) a second F2 and keep our F4.
I’m not saying your wrong but that would be a change in rules on previous years. That’s certainly possible given there’s been calls for a few years to relax those rules arguing that it would free up player movement more and that it puts more onus on the clubs to manage themselves properly. But if they have changed the rule they’ve done it very quietly.

Think the club will look at what we gave for Schultz as a guide , though realistically picks won’t be as good. A future pick ideally Hawks second but probably will be later and a pick this year to be used to replace his list spot. Not overly happy but I think we will most likely get pick in mid 40s this year and pick around that mark next year. The pick this year gives us the option of trading in someone or taking a reasonable 3rd pick to the draft

Comparing him to Stevo is just lazy. He is far more likely to produce more than a second rounder in this or next year’s draft.

I can’t blame him for looking elsewhere given his spot is under threat at Collingwood. Can understand him jumping at a 4 year deal. We can afford to hold fast on him though.

Unless we really want him gone it has to be a future 2nd.

Take into account what we paid for Schultz and some of the crazy deals so far that's about the market price.

It's not like he missed a flag, he was in the best 22.

Second round pick will be shocking, just as shocking as all the trades we make. Gini kicked 40 goals in his second year. Schultz has never achieved that. But for one player a first and second rounder is acceptable, for Gini a second round pick give me a break.
The AFL is a “what have you done for me lately?” league.

Ginni kicked 40 goals in 2022, but kicked 12 goals in 14 games in 2023. Playing only 14 games was due to snorting ketamine, and poor form, not injury.

The perception is that Ginni is selfish and that his point of difference, i.e. earning high contact frees, has been taken away from him. That perception may be inaccurate, but that’s why Schultz is worth considerably more at market.

Quietly hoping Ginni stays, but understand the deal if its a straight swap for their future 2nd. It evens back our 2024 draft hand, offering flexibility for bringing in more talent the following year.

The next man up behind Ginnivan on the small forward depth chart is Harrison, who really impressed me last season. I think we have a brilliant starting 23 next year, with a combination of some proven AFL level depth (Noble/Frampton/AJ), some hungry talented players ready to go (Reef, HH, Fin) and some exciting young players ready for AFL exposure (Allen, Ryan).

B: I.Quaynor - D.Moore - B.Maynard
HB: J.Howe - N.Murphy - J.Crisp
C: S.Sidebottom - S.Pendlebury - J.Daicos
HF: B.Hill - B.Mihochek - B.McCreery
F: L.Schulz - D.McStay - J.Elliott
R: M.Cox - J.DeGoey - N.Daicos
I: O.Markov - T.Mitchell - D.Cameron - W.Hoskin-Elliott
S: P.Lipinski

B: B.Frampton - J.Noble - J.Ryan
M: F.Macrae - E.Allen - J.Carmichael
F: A.Johnson - R.McInnes - H.Harrison

We really need a good lock down KD.
We have shown no inclination towards that. We value intercepting defenders with skills who set up rebounding forays from D50.

He is nice to have as depth, but that's all he was. Won't be a great loss if we lose him, all we are losing is some depth as nobody needs to cover him next year, as he was the cover.

He doesn't work hard enough, and got by on football IQ. His worth is inflated by cult hero status at the club IMO.

If anyone really wants to know the definition of truly stupid, moronic and ludicrous all they have to do is quote all your laughable fan boy/girl fluff about Ginni through thought the year.

I'm surprised you haven't cancelled your account yet.

So pretty much like every other year of the last two decades then? They’ve had five #1 picks! Walker himself was a #2 and Dow was #3.

Except what has Grundy done recently to be traded for more than what we got for Adams who played 23 games this year?

What has 7 game this season Shane McAdam done recently to be worth a second round pick that's the same as what we got for Adams? They're 1 year in age apart.

Now even bloody Brandon Ryan who is a mid season rookie and played 3 games is spoken about as a future second.

The only reason those players get more in trades is because their club put that value on them and won't let them go for less. Whereas GW just accepts whatever to get a deal done. Which eventually comes back to bite as you erode through all your trade assets to be unable to bring in better quality players and end up with not much to take to the draft either.

Good pick up re 2nd pick. Not sure why I had it in my mind that he was No1.

Hopefully you are right but the wraps seem pretty high on one of the Camporeale, Beaumont and Walker.
