I've seen nothing to suggest that Chugg is inferior to Guy McKenna or Johnson lesser than Gary Ablett Sr. Exciting time to be a Pies fan.
I can't believe you're mentioning Ablett and Johnson in the same sentence!
Johnson is TWICE the player Ablett ever was... jeez!

Stupid recruitment decisions in the first place.
Case in hand; Wells. Almost never played more than a dozen games in a year at North... we offer him a multi year contract on top dollar.

Not that I want to defend our list management much, but the above is a complete myth.

Wells had 14 seasons at North and played at least 18 games in 11 of them, including 19 in his last year before coming to Collingwood.

I've seen two minutes of video of Johnson playing. And in that time he took 2 speckies and kicked 3 goals. No-one in the history of the game has ever produced at that sort of rate. So I think you're right.

We’d actually be better off (points wise) trading Lynch and pick 79, for their pick 65.

I’d personally push for Lynch and 27 for 21 (I think that rates him at pick 58 on a points basis), but Lynch + 27 for 24 is one of those deals that kind of ignores the points. I’d do it because I’m confident the Daicos bid comes at 3 or 4 and even if it goes completely awry (Daicos receives a bid at 1 which is next to no chance it seems) we’d be stuck with a 300 odd point deficit.

This may be a silly question, however, when we match a bid on Daicos, are we able to trade other picks prior to the trade? I would have thought it’s not really our pick so we couldn’t shuffle trades with other clubs right at that time.

At least Johnson actually grabs the ball and holds it all the way to the ground in his species (sic) unlike that other bloke were (sic) comparing him to...

Quick add a “c”!

Yes, there’s a 5 minute window after a bid is made that we can make pick trades in prior to matching the bid.

In short yes. It happened once or twice last year. A bid came in and the team needing to match did a trade to move their picks around before matching.

Hypothetically...

If we traded out some picks, say 27 for Essendon's future second... and then a bid came at pick 2, we'd be facing deficit (without any other trades obviously)

Can you still then turn around and trade your future first into this year's draft?

Or does the impending defect disallow that?

What happens to the defecit then, does it shift onto that future second?

Going forward all our highlights packages shall be 10 seconds only to ensure we have only superstars on our list. 👌👍

I think we'd only trade 27 if we didn't get a bid at 1 or 2. If we get a bid at 3, we'd have enough points to match without 27.

Don’t we have to use 27 first when we match?

As I understand it, not if we trade it out before a bid comes. So if North pick Horne-Francis at 1 and GWS bids on Darcy at 2, we would trade 27 as soon as the bid comes on Darcy. I could be wrong, but I think that's how it would happen.

What do reckon we'll do with it?

I don't know how we'll get there but I still think (hope) our end game is having enough points (or close enough) to match a Pick 1 bid for Daicos, as well as having a full suite of 2022 selections.

That would be an elite trade period if we could somehow get it done at the same time as getting Lipinski and Kreuger.

Just to give us the opportunity in draft night - post bid - to trade our future first back into the top ten this year, if we wanted a particular player.

Not saying we will, but the potential to do so could be very handy.

You can trade it whilst on the clock to match a bid on your own aligned player

We're the AFL's bloody ruck nursery: Ceglar, Lynch, Witts......
One mediocre ruck being dumped for nothing (Ceglar), one 23 year-old three gamer who has only played well once (Lynch), and one good ruck (Witts).

How will we recover from such losses?

Witts is the one we lost for a bag of chips.
