Don't think he be a Terrible Defender.

With his elite his Kicking is no wonder they tried to make him more Offensive then Defensive

Though could be your mate have Sour Grapes
He's really good in a defensive contest. It's just that they used him like we use Nick when he plays half back. Push up to back of the pack and play as an extra outside mid from behind the ball. I suspect we'll use him the same. Not really part of the set up behind the ball except for the initial 6/6/6 situation - despite starting in the back 6.

I read somewhere today by Jon Ralph the saints are going to go hard for him cause he’s only 29, yet when we were Houston’s choice he was too old cause he was 28
No, you see, when you're a crap team, trying to become mediocre, recruiting old, crap players with 1-2 years left, who 100% won't be there if you ever compete for a flag, that's smart recruiting.

But when you're a good team, trying to have a tilt at a premiership, recruiting gun players in their prime who still have 4-5 good years left at minimum, that's a short-sighted mistake, because you should be trying to expedite your descent into being a crap team so that you can then be applauded for recruiting old, crap players.

Twomey also doubled down on us chasing Matt Rowell.

I am hoping it's true. Rowell at his best is a ballistic animal that should be entering his prime years.

It seems that our competitive advantage is Oakleigh and Nick Daicos. And to me it makes perfect sense.

Kind of reuniting the band.

But what would he cost us in a Trade?

Sam De Koning, Matt Rowell, Finn Callaghan, Leek Aleer, LDU, Oscar Allen, Ed Richards.

These are the OOC guys we should look at.

Imagine if we could snag SDK via trade for a first rounder and one of LDU/ER as a RFA 🤩

We should also be looking at Wade Derksen, hoping he does well this year but not too well to bring his value up.

He’ll be a cheaper KPP acquisition than SDK and potentially Leek Aleer. He was interested in going to Melbourne the trade period had just gone, but GWS held him to contract.

If we can walk away from 2025 with one of LDU, Rowell, and ER and one of SDK, Aleer, and Derksen then I have more optimism for 2027 onwards.

Don't want to lose Maynard but you could almost see him and not begrudge him taking a big pay day at North.

Pies won't be able to match what they offer

Let Maynard go or trade him ?, what is this ,you have all gone mad
No one wants him to go, but we would also understand if he went somewhere else to finish his career for an extra $2-300K per year. Couldn’t begrudge him that after all he’s done for us.

For his age and position, we can’t afford to be paying him absolute top dollar.

Seems the Loyal Type so I say that is not a Sure Thing

No we all wouldn't.

Bruz isn't leaving. This talk is ludicrous.

Definitely not a sure thing. I think there is only a small chance he goes.

I think we’d push for 1-2 retirements if we needed to in order to retain him.

North would have at Offer him some stupid Contract to make him even think about it

There's no chance he's leaving. I can't believe it's still being brought up as a possibility.

Besides the fact we're about to enter a period of about half a dozen retirements.
Anything is a possibility, even if remote based on the circumstances. No need to be dogmatic.

People talking about it doesn’t make it any more likely to happen (none of us want it to).

Depends on retirements, but I suspect we'll go for a 2022 style recruiting period - quantity rather than top quality/top dollar - although we did get quality also that year.

Unless someone really surprises this year, a mature tall defender looks a must.
