Because he's already on an AFL rookie list? It makes no logical sense, the whole idea of Cat B is getting kids from outside AFL programs, he is literally already on an AFL list so...

Now the AFL may let Collingwood do it because they make the rules up as they go, but it doesn't make any sense.

Surely if he was originally eligible to be a Cat B and he’s still eligible to be on a rookie list….

Can’t see why he can’t drop down again within the rules. Hard to argue that he isn’t from outside the normal AFL system.

Brisbane - Ashcroft F&S, Fletcher F&S
Essendon - Davey x 2 F&S

Our 3 x 2022 3rd rounders are valued at 1,049 points (based upon this years finish) which is approx. Pick 16.

Maybe after the Darcy bid at 2, we can trade pick 36 to the dogs, so they have another early ish pick for their future second round. That is likely to be early 30’s.
We then package that pick plus the three third rounders for Brisbane’s future 1st.
so approx 1550 points or pick 8.
So a Brisbane top 6 finish means they win on points but we get a win with a 1st rounder.

It does take up a list spot, as given the next list lodgement when the DFA opens is post draft, it gets included in the list spots you'll be taking to the draft.

  • List Lodgement (1)
    Friday 29 October

  • List Lodgement (2)
    Wednesday 10 November

  • Delisted Free Agency Period
    Thursday 11 November – Friday 12 November
  • AFL pre-season commences (1-4 year players)
    Monday 22 November

  • NAB AFL Draft (Round 1)
    Wednesday 24 November (7pm EST)

  • NAB AFL Draft (Rounds 2 to completion)
    Thursday 25 November (7pm EST)

  • NAB AFL Pre-Season and Rookie Draft
    Friday 26 November (3.20pm EST)

  • Final AFL Club List Lodgement
    Monday 29 November

Did you mean to write "is pre-draft" there Jen?

After the draft is the SSP which from memory commences after final list lodgements (and runs up until a week or so before the commencement of the season) and that's where any past AFL listed player or overlooked 2021 draft nominee can be added to the rookie list, if a team has spots available (or an LTI)?

This is from our club site, so just going by what they have there.

No argument with the list of dates as it is correct, but there is no DFA signing period after the draft. per-se, just the commencement of next year's SSP.

Maybe they bought it forward to before the draft? I know usually there are two periods for DFA, I wonder if that's still the case, or they have cut it to 1.

Would need the AFL off-season dates. I'll see what I can find.

Not particularly fussed who his manager. And I don’t think Wright will be offering him the big deal he might want
He either takes a $750k type deal or he can explore free agency and we fast track our rebuild

i feel as though a mid-20s De Goey leaving at the end of 2022 to be replaced by an 18-year-old high draft pick is actually slow-tracking our rebuild! De Goey is young enough to be a key player in winning the 2025-26-27 flags!

The DFA period is so that delisted players can get to a club of choice without going through the draft. If they don't get drafted, they can be added after the draft as SPS.

I dont know why people are so obsessed about speeding up our rebuild. We need to do it right, not quickly.

He just isn’t consistently good enough against the top 8 teams to demand top dollar salary

There is two - first commences after the FA signing period has ended and continues up until two days after the draft and the second is the 48 hour period after list lodgement 2 in mid November, the latter of which is the last chance to delist 2021 senior listed players. both are there in that list of key offseason dates.

The SSP which runs from December to March(?) and rules allowing clubs to have vacant list spots coming out of the draft has effectively rendered the DFA signing periods largely obsolete anyway, so maybe if there was another DFA signing window just before the draft then perhaps the introduction of the SSP killed it off?

I think Madge might be in trouble if Keane can't be relocated. Only short term trouble though if we want to keep him, as we'll be able to re-add him if we want to.i doubt anyone will cut our lunch.
.
I'd rather keep Magden, i think we can pick up a KD in the rookie or PSD draft or Delisted and they would be better than Keene.

^This. After his second half of the 2021 season it feels like he’s ripe to explode next year if he has a good preseason too…
