Signing DeGoey and Moore.

Should we wait until mid to late in the season to see where we finish on the ladder?

Pies potentially bottom 2/3 we might be more open to getting competition compared to 9/10

I feel like where potentially playing with fire then again I can't see us getting them on the cheap even if they both have bad seasons.

Thoughts on the strategy?

Prioritise Moore because he’s our only KP stud and he’s band 1 of our cap. JDG is also band 1, but I think he’s one that needs the time and space to figure it out for himself.

Maynard the lowest priority because he fits in band 2 along with Crisp and Adams. I think his deal sorts itself out so long as you keep him happy.

Our top salary band like any club should see the first two paid in the range of $800k-$900k and then if they indicate it’ll take $1m plus base to keep them you say goodbye. If they’re getting $1.2m type offers and tell us we’re close then it’s incentive based (AA and B&F wins)

As to our position I think we’re in a good spot because if we spike there’ll be an incentive from both parties to stick it out and if we stay down the writing might be on the wall for both parties making it the right time to reload.

Yes, GW has already shown he is a huge improvement on the Eddie, Neddy & Gubby show.
Flexibility and adaptability is so important in any large organization and in hindsight the old administration had become hardened into roles and attitudes that imposed themselves onto the football department.

GW is a breath of fresh air who determines what needs to happen and gets on with it.

He is obviously a great communicator as we have witnessed with the seamless and stress free ways all of our trade goals have been achieved and new relationships formed with other clubs and I would suggest player managers. You can almost feel our credibility and reputation build as players, their managers and other clubs find an organization that is committed to early planning, clear goals and mutually beneficial outcomes rises from the ashes as it were.

Not only has this trade period been successful but it has laid the foundations for future success.

Very pleased indeed.

For all the great things Eddie did for the club, he also created controversy, and drew unwanted attention on the club on a too regular basis. He was also responsible for the succession plan & Beams debacles. So now we have the football department making football decisions. Not before time.

Eye test and stats say you are horribly wrong. Adams kicking efficiency is 52.8. Below average for AFL and the worst of his career for 2021. He is among the AFL leaders in turnovers and clangers per game.

Thanks that was the number I was on the hunt for! In terms of guys who are “exceptional” with hitting those short range targets you’re talking Salem, Daniel, Burton and Dale. Adams does not belong in that conversation.

If we were looking to pick up a DFA what about Trent Dumont?
Former vice captain at North - still only 26.
Can provide a bit of a bigger body in the midfield…

Only averages 2 or 3 clearances a game and lacks pace. He can find the ball a bit but you probably want more of a genuine inside mid, he has no point of difference

Let us not forget Lippa and Kruger.

Problem is, you need 4-5 picks in the top 30 when rebuilding. And 1-2 in the top 10 over a couple of years. I get that we mortgaged the farm for a shot at a premiership, so we need to just accept it. Still, I would have made some different list choices myself -- and I know we've gone on about it, but boy did we lose out on Treloar and Stevenson.

No argument again although I understand Eddie's personality was and is an integral part of his private and professional success.

He quite literally saved the club in it's darkest hour and for that he has my unqualified respect but his leading role in the media was always going to impinge on the club and the longer the time the more intrusive it became.

The club was forced into a window display sort of a position and wide open to any criticism the darling people of the media industry cared to make and so that too found it's way into the club, the football department, the player list and even the supporter base.

Where the club failed was in not taking a proactive part in managing that penetration and giving it's people room and privacy to operate with consideration and peace.

I have high hopes in general going forward and a particular hope that - so far as our club is concerned - the media is reduced to it's correct place as an information distribution resource and not the ringmaster in a three ringed circus.

Yes you keep going on about, let it go Finnish that ship has sailed.

I have every faith in GW to manage list spots as I'm sure points swapping and player acquisitions are being carefully managed leading up to the draft night.

What wizardry is this coming out of the Graham Wright Centre. Such a welcome feeling of competency about the place now.
Maybe call it the "Wrighty the Mighty Centre". He's of course a Collingwood premiership player. He's been away too long. :)

It seems that GW and CFC have an expectation that Nick Daicos will slide closer to pick 6 based on yesterday's pick swap. They have positioned their points tally and allowed for the recruiting of extra players this season in that trade alone. The fact that they also traded into next year's draft as well, is a bonus. By my calculations it is now immaterial whether Daicos goes between 4 or 6 in the draft, we have the points to cover and still have capacity to recruit.

That’s a bit harsh. He’s serviceable albeit in a defensive game plan, will probably be more exposed if we play more attacking. Happy for him to be delisted, as I don’t think he’s a premiership calibre player but he’s good depth.
I’m not advocating to keep Madgen for anything other than depth but even by his standards, he showed some solid improvement in the second half of this year. Just did the basics well.

Disagree. It's not about kicks and marks which in our backline were relatively cheap.
It's his defensive skills and simple awareness that hold him back.

he isnt getting past pick 3-4. The suns with bid 100%

Dead right. If we managed to keep all our list under $850k, it sets us up well for flag tilts in time.
I realise Grundy is over this amount and it’s a problem on 2 fronts.
1) It hurts our cap and,
2) Other players will expect the same which hurts the cap squeeze further

Either pick 3 or 4 will be a win for us

it will allow the Balance of our 3 to 4 picks in this Draft to not be too late in the draft and might also allow us to trade back in to 2022 more again

agree the Suns will definitely bid if it gets to them

A few basics he didn't do so well also, he can still improve, he'd be cheap and he has a crack.

I'd be happy to cop the flack he does on this board to be in his shoes (Boots?)
