Yes we do, we have to give up somewhere in the realms of $5-600k per year in salary cap. That’s the contentious part. Nobody would have an issue if he was being recruited at $450-500k, or at Leigh Brown bargain basement cost.
But don't criticise that Apex, please, we just have to trust Wright and Fly okay.

I would certainly trade Grundy as long as we only have to contribute no more than 200k per year to his contract.
Nick D is only one who would be worth a contract period that was given to Grundy and he is a real match winner unlike Grundy.
That contract is a great example of how incompetent the previous management was.

If we got rid of Grundy what do we do next year (or the year after) when Cox retires?

Or if Cameron/Cox get an injury?

🤷
We throw Will Kelly into the ruck and say “go earn your money without getting injured”

I’m sure we will be able to find a VFL back up to rookie.

I’m not interested in trading Grundy.

I called his deal very early as a ball and chain around our legs. As such we are in a horribly weak bargaining position. It’s likely we won’t get an appropriate return.

Both in terms of picks and real salary cap relief.

In an ideal world he would take a hair cut on his existing deal, either to stay or leave, which could drastically change the above (ala Mayne and Wells). But to be honest if I was in a similar position, I probably wouldn’t.

Love Grundy, but you’re right about that. Thank god someone at the club recognised what was going on and pissed everyone off before we turned into a North Melbourne.

The Treloar fiasco can now be looked at as a blessing in disguise

Ralphy tonight… “the rumours are swirling around Footy circles…can no longer ignore the possibility, where there’s smoke there’s fire, it makes sense, the Club refuses to deny, what started as a soft breeze is now a cyclone, latest Collingwood off field drama!”.
All…I repeat all created by the Football media…feeding off one another.

I dont condone violence in any way but when I see his smug head come on TV sometimes I have a strong desire to throw some pathetic, uncoordinated punches at him

Will AFL 360 lead with
(a) Magpies, Grundy trade dilemma or
(b) Leon Davis & Andrew Krakouer back at Club

Why would we trade Grundy with Cox at 31 years of age. We trade Grundy, in 12 to 18 months time, we are looking to recruit another ruckman. Absolutely garbage from Rockliff, that makes no sense. This bloke comes out with the most stupid rumours. I'm sure he reads bigfooty.com!!
To get the Salary cap back under control by moving an overpaid player contracted for way too long.
Even if we pay 200k that leaves 800K back to the cap.

Funnily enough, you're wrong. We had 80 centre clearances to 83 for the opposition with Grundy in the side, the only big team loss in that area was against the Bombers. Almost breaking even.

Since then, 98 for us vs 132 for the opposition. Our transitional play and pressure is what is doing it for us.

Essentially, what you said is completely untrue.
I see this stat a lot. What happens when we take the 2 Begg games out of the equation? Those 2 games looked worse to my eyes than Saturday (which was abysmal)

Need to deduct the cost of another Ruckman say $400K, and Cox as a backup at an additional 100K, given he’s on minimum chips now, and hit triggers for a contract extension.
The $800K is now $300K, and actually $250K, given Grundy is actually on $950K.
I’d rather keep Grundy because $250K is not buying much quality

What's the point in trading Grundy if a club is going to expect us to continue paying half a million for him each year until 2027?

If Grundy does get traded, we'd likely have a contract point where it'd be a pure salary dump with little back in trade. The more we pay, the more we'd expect back in trade. It's the kind of deal where you could easily get a win win, both due to different valuations of Grundy and different valuations of cap space versus trade assets.

So your aware the salary cap is not in control? We already got rid of the players we needed too with Treloar etc. We now trade Grundy and then in 12 to 18 months time we will need to trade another ruckman into the club on probably $400k - $500k....That makes sense...

$$ warchest doesn't mean much if you dont have the trade currency, and I'd suggest we dont have too much to work with atm.

It wasn't meant as a criticism. If there's a warchest I think we have more on the horizon.
