It wasn't meant as a criticism. If there's a warchest I think we have more on the horizon.
More, is in potential players? You never know. At this point last year, we didn't even know we were into lippa. I imagine there is more going on bts than what gets out in the media.

Need to deduct the cost of another Ruckman say $400K, and Cox as a backup at an additional 100K, given he’s on minimum chips now, and hit triggers for a contract extension.
The $800K is now $300K, and actually $250K, given Grundy is actually on $950K.
I’d rather keep Grundy because $250K is not buying much quality

Afl minimum is around $180k for 3yr+ players.

I doubt we would spend 400k on another ruckman.

Probably try and get a ruckman on rookie list?

Part of that money then goes towards a key defender (possibly McStay) - replaces Roughie contract and maybe an extra 100k?

The rest maybe pays for Bobby Hill - an extra 200k on what Poulter / Brown or Bianco is earning?

A million dollar player playing mediocre football for 2 years is a bit of a problem tbh.
and thats the bitch of it. cut our losses while we can. trust Wright to move the deck chairs around where we can get 3 reasonable players in this years trade. need to build on what we are building

Grundy just wont cut it unless something dramatically changes him back to All Australian again. Cox another year maybe Begg and Cameron still have time and would have seen Grundy towards the end anyway.

Talking to my Collingwood tragic brother-in-law today, we spoke about Grundy and his trade. If he wants to go, let him. Say thanks and let him enjoy his footy somewhere else.
If it's due to salary cap issues, then that's on us, if someone shoved a huge money laced contract in front of you'd take it.
But, Darcy Cameron is still inexperienced 44 games, but he can kick well and can take marks.
Begg is only 197cm and is only 19.
Cox will be 32 at the start of next season and he may not be consistent.
We'd be lacking that experienced ruckman without Brody.
I'd be happy to retain Brody, let Cameron and Cox rotate forward and develop Begg into a forward, remembering the kids haven't played much over the last few years.
I sometimes think we have our Key forward on our list, we just need to develop them.
I think we have our midfield, props to Carmichael, played like well for a first gamer and reckon he kicked goal of the year, one more lockdown back would make me pretty happy.
And I hope Collingwood keep my happiness in mind at the trade table this year.

Let’s give up Grundy for nothing 😂
This place cracks me up

Because Cameron is having a good run? Cox is marking the ball and having a good run aswell?

Everyone only assumes Grundy is on $1m a year For starters
Everyone really needs to calm down
Exactly, everyone does assume he's on one million a year, but according to the AFL, Grundy is actually on more than $1 million a year. You can check it if you want

I'd like to see the AFL get progressive with this. We retain Grundy but "trade" a portion of his contract with draft picks. IE: Brisbane receive 2 of our round three picks for free in exchange for picking up 200k per year of Grundy's contract. Basically I want clubs to be able to sell draft picks

If it is decided that Grundy will ply elsewhere next year, we won’t be paying much of his salary if any. We are not hamstrung like we were before.
If we do pay, then it will be a small amount for a short period of time so we can trade in a couple of established players to make us better.

If part of the trade includes us receiving a player currently in contract, then we will be paying even less.

Yeah sure if you believe he's been mediocre and can't return to his best. Which he was getting back to before his injury. Either we keep a league elite ruck or we'll leverage him for something just as good or better in return. That's not a problem from my perspective.

Can you provide a link? Player contracts are private as far as I’m aware, so I’d be surprised if the AFL themselves had backflipped on that and announced a players salary.

Poor treatment of Grundy imo
Think he will walk tbh
How so? The club itself has been reported as giving no indication whatsoever to Grundy or his management about any intention of trading him. Literally everything in the media so far has been pure speculation.

How do we get something better in return?

Not really, the club would be negligent if they aren’t exploring ways to better the list/challenge high paid players to live up to their pay packet.

And that’s even if this is happening, I think Rockliff is talking out his ring and the other journos have jumped on so as not to miss some airtime.

We definitely need a decent Ruckman given Cox’s age. A Rookie doesn’t really cut it, so we’ll need to pay $400k, as others have also suggested.
