When on he's a beast, getting him fit and consistently being "on" is the key.
Sell him the plan. Instead of staying at a club that is destined to never win a final get yourself rock hard fit and play some midfield bursts alongside Nick, Jordy and Pendles then sneak forward and have them put it on your chest lace out. Flags, beers, laughing at Essendon to follow. 👍

He hasn’t been fit and consistently on since the dogs won the flag. That’s pretty much when he stopped giving a shit.

Tell him it's a life lesson he had to learn, gotta go through hard times (Essenscum) to really appreciate the good times (Mighty Mags).

Am pretty skeptical that Jakey is going to change the habits of a lifetime and suddenly hunker down to a massive pre-season and lose some kilos over the space of a few months.

Looks like he is the type who, if he did do a hard session, would undo any benefits with a few pizzas as a reward.

It’s worked well for my dad bod regime for years

Get him motivated and fit and he’s a beast. Put him with Nick or Pendles all pre season
He's too slow to keep up with Nick, but he might manage it with Pendles.
But watching how those two prepare might be the incentive he needs to turn him into a consistent player.
His best footy is bloody good.

Even Titch. More the professionalism aspect of AFL football. Essendon just seem to go through the motions of mediocrity every season

Stringer is a burst athlete. He would keep up with Nick in a straight line, who is quick but not even out quickest player.

Soon as Nick cuts the angle/change directions that is where Stringer would get left in the dust.
Nicks agility is next level.
