Selecting Johnson when he was down on form/confidence in the first few rounds wasn’t smart, but that wasn’t Johnson’s fault. Hopefully the club has talked through the delisting, because there’s a risk it could also impact his confidence.
How about AJ works his ass off like any other aspiring footballer and proves us all wrong. Being put on the rookie list should inspire him to do better. I don't think it's confidence, I just don't think he wants it enough

Apologies if already been asked, but if Oleg and Ash express interest in staying at the Pies, can other clubs still take them in the draft? Will they be forced?

The players have to be open to moving, if not, other clubs won't go for them.

Actually not surprised at both players being delisted with a commitment to relist.

Hopefully a wake up call.

Johnson contracted already till 2025, Markov out of contract this year and perhaps a contract for another year?

Markov had his contract re-structured to add on another year a couple months ago

I used to play squash against a fat prick with shit shots who used to kick my arse. AJ reminds me of that.

The fat prick would just own the T because he'd always be following up his shots and moving to the right spots to control the court, whereas, I'd hit my shot and watch it before moving and I'd gradually get forced into worse and worse position. For me, it wasn't effort, it was just not being a smart enough player who processed quickly enough.

AJ is one shot and done. Sometimes it's a doozy, but when it isn't, he just lands and watches before reacting and following his first shot.

My issue with Reef being given a year then moved to defence is he may take time to adjust, meaning he may need more than a year. If he only shows glimpses will we retain him beyond 2025?

I may be in the absolute minority here, but I am happy to back AJ in for one more season.

He was borderline uncompetitive this year, and that arrogant incident in the VFL where he showed the ball to the opponent only to fumble the bounce and get chased down, pretty much summed up his season.

But the glimpses he showed in 2022 tell me there is some serious talent there. And he reportedly had an excellent preseason this year and got really fit.

I'm not sure why he fell off so far or if he has a future in the AFL. But, I am not writing him off just yet.
I’d love you to be right. No one doubts his talent and maybe this little kick up the arse might give him some motivation. Who knows

Are you trying to trigger Gone Critical ?

Careful. You don't want to awaken the Growth Plate Police.
Just for some extra trigger material:

"I was 198-199 [centimetres] last year and I was measured again and I am 201 now," Darcy said, laughing.

I can’t find the article where he talked about his growth spurt and how it related to his injury issues early on but I definitely remember reading it.

You're splitting hairs, I'm sure the club and both players would have agreed to it because we just don't do players dirty like that.
How is delisting with a commitment to re-draft doing a player dirty? It makes no tangible difference to them which list they’re on, and in addition it may also allow them to rejuvenate their career at a different club that needs them more than we do.

No. The club wouldn’t have sought an agreement from them to delist. It would have been a frank conversation telling them how things are and what the club plans to do. This sort of list management isn’t something that is going to be negotiated with the player.

He played the last 2-3 games in the vfl there off no pre-season in that position. I think he would adjust fine.

WTF do you think you are playing at? GC will go full nutso now.

Second this. The “people called him names on social media” excuse is getting old. Yes, it was vile and shouldn’t have happened. But if you let that sort of thing take over you to the point where you can’t perform your job then you’ll never be a productive member of society.

Sounds harsh I know, but it’s a cut throat world.

Yes they can but unlikely they will unless they genuinely want them in their best 23.

Darcy's growth plates had trauma related delayed development due to discovering that Peter's growth plates left the Pies to play for Melbourne. It was a rare case of late onset growth plate fusion.

My guess is one of the people measuring Darcy couldn't see that high so made a bit of a guess.

I'm off the view we replaced Darcy with a shorter individual, sold this to the world, then accurately measured Darcy.
Imagine the lift anyone would get to be told you are in fact 3-4 cm taller, surely it'd be mind altering psychology, all for the good.

Been done before in Australian sport Fine Cotton and Bold Personality, a pair of kissing cousins they were.

Looking like we're going with Frampton and Dean as the back up key defenders. Would it be worth putting Dean on the main list and only taking 2 in the draft. That way we could leave a rookie spot for someone like tomlinson or clury. Our side looks well served everywhere else except those 2 KD Positions

I hope Long makes me eat my words, but surprised he was retained rather than adding a depth KPD - I think they rate Bruzzy's ability to play tall if need be (I do too), but we really need a good run of health from our tall defenders - but who doesn't?

Im probably in the minority but i just dont see it with Dean. I dont think he is ever gonna make the step up to AFL level.
Id much rather we cut him loose and sign a known quantity in Tomlinson, regardless of the amount of that quantity, its still better than Dean.

Basically, we're going to have to see Dean go up a level next year. It's not out of the question but it is a concern, especially if Moore gets injured at any stage

I don’t think Johnson was set up up to succeed last season, but at some point you’ve just got to fight through that and still offer something.

I think this year being his last contracted year, he will do one of two things:
1. he will either give it all because he truly wants an AFL career. He might have a very good year or show that he doesn't have it.

2. He will just give up. He will run around in the VFL and not do much.
