Because Brodie has shown the ability to actually find enough of the footy and be an inside contested extractor at AFL level. Unlike Long or Bytel.
Could Long and Bytel just need to find their feet at Collingwood?
If Brodie came in and couldn't get the ball, we'd probably make an excuse like the above.

Why do Long and Bytel get the luxury of finding their feet at Collingwood when they've shown less and are more mature than Reef/Macrae.

It should be Long and Bytel that are subbed in and out and given 30 min every 3 games to show something or they're done.

Long is younger than Reef, but having said that, maturity has nothing to do with the structure and dynamics of a club.
Long has been on the list for what, two months?
Bytel is 24 and has some experience at AFL level, he is a decent depth player under 25, we don't have many like that. Our list of under-25s is the worst.

The only reason is if they don’t show potential, they won’t get an extension, unlike both Finn and Reef who have contracts for 2025.

Reef is OOC, Macrae has a contract for 2025.
But yes both Bytel and Long are also OOC end of this year.

We can still have a lot of internal improvement next season. Last year everything came together, this year it’s just fallen apart for many reasons. Every club has seasons like that and you need a lot of luck to win.

Pendles has been affected by injury, Degoey the same and is lacking fitness. Elliot missed two months, ditto cox. Mitchell was carrying an injury and out for the year. Mcstay missed all season, and will never get full fitness.

A bit more luck on the injury front, and tweaks to our game plan over the off season and we can have another crack. We have the talent.

A full season of Mcstay and checkers playing together would go a long way.

So this off season a couple of cheapish additions is all we’d need. Then the proper rebuild can commence at the end of 25 when we get mcguane.

Problem is our older guys are often our best players. Steele and Pendles have had a couple dud games this year but they have games where they are still in our top 5.

We don’t win the GF without Pendles and Howe’s 4th qtr.

With Howe’s injury run the last couple years you’d think it’s him and Steele to finish this year. They should make that call now so they can have the send off game they deserve.

Pendles, Mitchell and Cox to go the end of 2025.
And not have too many in there Prime at the Moment

Because he’s a fairy that relies on being the 3rd option floating in from the side. With Hawkins out there is more attention on him being the 2nd option.
They keep a big strong forward and a crumber deep and the rest of their forwards run their arses off up and back. He's got to improve his running.

Truly amazing that Macrae Jakob Ryan and Ash Johnson all already have contracts for 2025

Very poor list management
It was last year when Ash had a fairly good year, minus some rival interest we gave him a 2 year deal. Who would have thought he would go backwards this year.
We contracted both Allan and Ryan a further 2 years prior to them playing their first games.

Macrae they made a priority signing at the start of the year when they re-signed Lippa and a few others. Probably didn't want him concerned about his contract for this year and he can focus on footy and improving his game.
Actually Fin implied he signed it months prior to the announcement, so possibly late last year.

Personally, no.

Also, unlike seem to be suggested, I’m not advocating getting Brodie and keeping Bytel and Long on the list…

Yep

Shabby treatment for reef especially with the sub then in then out merry go round

Long is from same draft as Nick. So technically a year younger than Fin

Let's be honest, Reef probably doesn't deserve a game. His form in both VFL and AFL has been pretty ordinary. It's up to Reef to finally grab a game by the throat
dunno, has kicked goals in pretty much in every game he has played. Limited or otherwise. Can't say that or most of our forwards.
