You're a hard mob to please.
For ages now it's been "just get a deal done" and now that we have completed our first its "overs and we suck at trading".

Talk about having your cake and eating it too

This x 1000

In one breath people talk about how awesome clubs like hawthorn are at identifying players and then doing what it takes to get the trade done even if it means paying overs while complaining that we are too slow to get trades done because we haggle to much and won't just pay up

People need to make up their mind... People also need to wait until the end of trade week and judge the outcome In its entirety not just on a deal by deal basis

So correct me if I'm wrong. Seedsman + Kennedy + 32 for Howe? Terrible.I mean I hate Seedsman but still that's shocking business

Actually scrap that. I'm not too fussed. Bit annoying the only player I don't want gets done first but

Splitting the trade up into two parts:
Kennedy is a dime-a-dozen midfielder who lacks weapons and has never really established himself. Pick 68 is unders but not by all that much.
Howe is a proven 100-game best-22 player with lots of X-factor. Swapping him for Seedsman is a win.
So a win on one half of the trade and a small loss on the other. Overall seems fair and I think Howe has way more upside potential than either Kennedy or Seedsman.
People are so bloody negative. I believe this is a great deal as well as we have essentially upgraded seedsman for howe which is huge. Kennedy was never gonna get a game for us next year and his value woulf have only decreased next year.

Port Gain Toumpas and pick 32
Loose 29, 50 & 68

Melb Gain Kennedy 29 & 50
Loose
Toumpas & Howe

Coll Gain Howe & 68
Loose Kennedy and Seedsman

Crows Gain Seedsman
Loose Pick 32

Swap Melb 50 and Coll 68 and the trade is just about right

Having said that, if we're losing 2 players that we don't see as part of our future best 22 and bringing in someone who we think is then it doesn't really matter

I think its important we don't look at this trade in isolation from everything else that's happening - the guys working the numbers in list management are doing two things:
Getting trades done; and
Getting the best deal they can for us in the Draft.

I think we are maybe just letting of some first trade of the period steam - by the way we've hit 1200 pages.

Howe represents something different - Varcoe showed up what Seedsman lacked and if we are going to be using Howe as a ball carrying hi flyer and it works we will be praising this by the end of the year. Have faith in Hine. He has to answer to Ed.

We have to fill 6 list spots now & don't have a pick for Freeman in this year's draft for him.

No. Seedsman + BK for Howe + 68.

We never technically had 32.

I'd say 68 is an extra pick we will throw in on Treloar deal.

So that leaves us with 7, 26, 44, 62, 68

Still have Freeman to go out (for possibly future 2nd) and possibly 27 from GWS to come in.

Only team to do well out of that trade on face value is Adelaide IMO, which is not surprising given the quality of the players exchanged was incredibly low. I'm not too fussed though as long as Howe proves me and other doubters wrong and is consistently best 22 for a number of years. If he manages that it's completely fair. Seedsman isn't worth more than pick 30 and Kennedy would be lucky to be worth more than 35.
