LOL at the continual talk of trading Witts or Grundy.

Go watch the 2002, 2003 grand finals, then watch the 2007 PF.:straining:

22 year old ruckman. Yep let's punt one of them for a late 1st round or 2nd round pick.

** shakes head **

We get a decent ruck, we win a flag. Lucky for us his body lasted long enough to nab that flag.

Did Brisbane and Geelong have two ruckman?

How many of those ruckman had the ability to play up forward? And how many of them where as slow as Witts?

Maybe only Ottens. He kicked a total of 1 goal in their three gf wins and that was against port where even the waterboy kicked three. In the other five premierships between the two clubs no ruck man kicked a goal for the winners

On the topic of ruck men in Grand finals... who would have thought that the leading goal kicker for ruckmen on grand final day between 2001-2014 would be our very own Josh Fraser with 4, ahead of Jolly 3 and Hale 3.

And how many of them could have been traded when they were 24 and just coming into their prime???
Oh yeah Richmond DID trade Ottens didn't they??? Tiges never made a GF and Ottens got three......oooops

to be fair, Richmond got picks 14 and 16 for Ottens who at the time was a fairly underwhelming player. Was ok up forward but not really given much of a chance in the ruck.
Given that Ottens had been an inconsistent performer up to that point getting 2 high draft picks seemed logical. the fact that they used it on Danny Meyer and Adam Pattison was where Richmond let themselves down.

Did the tigers have a younger better version of Ottens? Because we have a younger better version of Witts.

Now the seasons over is all about list management. So we will have another top 10 pick obviously. Do we keep that or on trade it for Treloar....Is Sam Weideman on our radar. I would love for us to snare him in the draft. 8 weeks until trade period. ...

Every premiership side since 2000 has had 2 ruckman, except 2010. If you go back further, probably more if the same.

West Coast, Freo and Hawthorn all play 2 ruckman.

Ours guys are young. Ruckman take more time than any other player type.

Here I was thinking Jessie White is our whipping boy but now posters want to play him and trade out one of our rucks.

The reason people want to bring another KF is because of White, isn't it. I mean Moore and Cloke go OK. Feuds looked alright up forward but I still prefer him back. Do people want to win now or build for the future.

If it's win now, trade a ruckman for a gun KF. Who's available?
If it's continue to build for the future, then you'd keep our rucks and look to the draft. The only exception would be if we got offered a great deal on one of them, that allowed us some access to real quality.

I find it quite confusing that you'd trade a young underdeveloped Ruckman for a pick that will require 3/4 years' to mature and than perhaps the same thing happens. Not quite good enough at a young age so he gets traded.

I'm a bit torn on Witts. Can see the issue from both sides.

Just wondering what people thought of Darcy Moores brief cameo in the ruck last night. I thought the tap he gave at full extension was text book and dare I say it, reminded me of his father. I got a little bit excited there :) doesn't necessarily solve the issue being debated but if he can evolve into a pinch hitting forward ruck for us that is such a valuable commodity in the current game.

I thought Moore performed quite well in the ruck. Actually if you take into consideration that he has only played a hand full of games he was very good. Plenty of potential there. He is going to be a jet. Couple more pre seasons to build on his frame a bit and look out. The brownlow medal will once again be awarded to a person with the surname Moore

Rubbish. Tonight showed we need a key position forward much more than midfield.
Doesn't matter who our key forwards are, did you see the vast difference in the forward structures of both sides tonight? Ours was absolutely crowded, sydneys free and open. With out current set up it's never gonna work.

Im all aboard the Treloar train it'll now be considered a disappointment if we don't get him much like our season is, I will assume that we won't.

Agree. starting to think he'll be better off traded away while he has value. Grundy the number one ruck, Moore and White the second...Cox the project player...replace Witts with a VFL depth option?

It's been this way for 4 seasons now. I just don't get why this has never been remedied. I know he misses more often than not but give Cloke some quick entries and one outs and he wins them but no, with our present set up he's always competing against 3-4 defenders and a couple of teammates.

We have to scrap and battle to get any score then the opposition gets a couple of quick centre breaks and easy marks and goals (Gary Rowen) or they rebound from our forward half uncontested and kick to a bloke alone in their forward line with no one within 50 bloody metres of him (Jetta, Goodes). It's team deam deflating and it happens every week without anything being done about it. It is a big indictment on Buckley's coaching for mine.

Until the coaching panel works out a more effective and less labour intensive forward/defensive setups we won't be any better than a mediocre side that tries hard for no reward.

Exactly. We're going about it the Lleyton Hewitt way. Running, grinding, using a lot of energy, but without a knockout punch. Watching Sydney stack numbers behind the ball, then breaking through the middle time after time was excruciating. Put a stopper in the middle and block the space.

Back to the topic, we need line breaking pace. We play Geelong - Motlop slices us up. We play Hawthorn - Hill & Rioli cut us to ribbons. Jetta, Stephen Hill, Yarran, Garlett etc. same result every time. We need our own version of this. Varcoe is reasonably quick, he needs some help out there. I know we can't get every name we are linked to, but I'd like to think we are prioritising an outside line breaker, with audacious skill. Either by draft or trade. Make the pathway to goal a little easier.
