Mason Shaw as a DFA anyone? Would come at zero cost with huge upside as a key tall with two years already in the system. Knightmare your opinion on this?

Mason shaw has been injured a bit, but my goodness I can't believe they played Butcher instead of him at the end of the season.
I haven't seen Mason kick, but I don't think anyone will ever BUTCHER the ball as much as John.

If you say so. Just pointing out that at the time we pretty much paid market value, just on a longer contract. It's clear now why the Hawks wouldn't give him a 3rd year. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Again and again, but I acknowledge that some people were against that move - I don't remember having a clear opinion then.

I would take either of Mason Shaw or Mitch Harvey, both young tall KPF's who could pitch hit in the ruck and have both shown a bit, my preference would be Shaw who seems very mobile for his size and has kicked a few bags in the reserves.

But Port delisting both of them when they're pretty light on KPF's does make you wonder... You would think with with Schulz being 30 and Butcher being almost the worst kick in the AFL Port would keep at least one of them, anyone got any more info on them?

Anyone else starting to hear some Danger chatter re Geelong maybe not getting him but a move back to Vic is happening?
Random people been saying it for months. Crazy if true. Don't think it could be us, surely we don't have the cap space to land him and Treloar. Will be annoyed if he goes to the Tigers. Gives us less reason to hang it on them.

Thanks for adding 1st year salaries - i thought it was quite a bit higher for first round picks. (can i ask where you got that?)
---

Im not saying he is worth 250k- im saying that is what he is being offered elsewhere, and it is up to us decide how close to that we want to get to try to keep him- because the numbers being thrown around just wouldnt cut it.

There seems to be a lot of antagonism int his thread towards him if he leaves - and i think that is completely uncalled for. Taking the garaunteed money, or getting us to come closer to matching it, is clearly the correct decision for him at this stage - and i wouldnt begrudge him at all if he took it, and would be disappointed if other pies fans turned on him (which some appear to be doing already)
Yes, from his financial viewpoint it might be beneficial to take the St.Kilda offer but I don't think the antagonism towards him is to do with his future. It's all about his past - if I'm in my very first job and being paid $100000 a year without doing what I've been paid to do and my employer is giving me (and paying for) the best medical treatment and ongoing training for two years then I'd do everything I could to repay them for their faith in me. The risk of a relatively small financial loss would be more than worth it, and the actual and potential payoffs both financially, professionally and personally would make it an easy decision. I'd be amazed if he didn't see that. I'm hopeful that this is all manager generated and his friends and family will make sure he makes the right decision to stay with Collingwood.

Read the Nathan Freeman thread, there's an update there.

That is fair - but there is a huge element you are overlooking:
Collingwood paying for his medical expenses etc. really only comes down to 1 thing: looking after its investment.
This is not a normal employer/employee relationship: Freeman is a "resource" or part of the product, economically speaking.
Don't think for a second that if Collingwood would still keep him if thought that he was no longer worth the risk, or was unlikely Freeman would ever get back onto the field - he would be out in the blink of an eye.

I dont mean to be completely dispassionate about this, and there still would be some element of loyalty there, on both sides - but there is a limit to that. I reckon theres a very high chance that Freeman would be taking a bit of a discount to stay: but that comes down to his close our offer gets- if its a 100k/yr gap he would be stupid not to walk.
(though in the scheme of things, i would like us to bite the bullet and try to get close to the Sainys offer)

Just spent ten minutes looking for it - no luck - can you point me in the right direction?

Edit: found it - didn't realise searches don't include ignored members threads.

Yep, but even that is way overs for a player who wouldn't get a game in a top 6 side.
But... people are advocating the 400k for Scharenberg who can barely crack into a top 12 side...

If you can't see the difference you're mentally deficient.

Berg ain't on 400k, anyone who says that is greatly inflating his numbers, at least for the first year of his new contract.

But he has the potential to be an All Australian level player, Melksham is 100+ games in and was dropped by a team that finished bottom 6 this year.

I am a teacher and taught Tom Bugg back in the day. Only English, I can take no credit for anything he does on the field ;) but I can report he was a mad Pies fan. Not that it may mean much in the grand scheme of things, but good to know that whether he comes to us or not he did bleed black and white in his teens.

Didn't Bucks coach him along with Treloar and Adams?

Based on how being a mad pies fan has worked out for Seeds and Karnesis might be best he stays away!

Balmey is on SEN now... And it sounds like Kreuzer has failed his medical despite him trying to brush the question aside.

Wowee this is good listening!
Cliff notes please!
