Assuming Ryan allows us to play Maynard in a taller more defensive role with Moore out.
You would think that. With Nick and JDG out there isn’t the option of putting a mid back so it was either Howe goes back or bring in a new 7th defender. I like the idea of starting Howe forward. Suppose the question remains even more so without Darcy Moore is what do we do with the 2nd ruck.

Brisbane can't beat us with our 3 best players out at Marvel then they will never beat us away from home again.

I doubt there's a world where we win this game with our outs lol

Like, literally our 3 best/most important players all out

Not many sides are winning games against decent opposition with their 3 best and most important players out, let alone when those 3 players happened to be some of the best in the league

Luckily for us, we don't actually need to win the game. Just need to not get belted essentially.

You’re right, of course, but Brisbane would be a better side with Ashcroft, Gunston and Rich too. All is not lost.

I think selecting Ryan is a big mistake

Both for the team and individually

He is not ready. Under Friday night lights against a top 2 team he will be exposed and it could really set him back long term.

Secondly - Brisbane are the best forward line in comp and I can’t see one of their forwards he is a good match for.

Very strange call by the match committee
I think he’ll go fine, it’s got a bit of Murphy’s debut back in 2018 about it

Gunston and Rich are "fringe" players at this point.

Ashcroft sure, but he's one player.

I personally would argue the hit their midfield takes without Ashcroft doesn't match the hit ours takes without De Goey. Let alone De Goey and Daicos.

In the end, this is essentially a dead rubber and not playing De Goey and Hill is a part of that. Fly himself said "if this was a Grand Final, we'd pushing for all of them to play". Translation "This match ultimately doesn't mean much and it's not worth risking them".

I'm not expecting a win and won't be upset if we lose given our outs. I would just like to see us play decently well and not get pumped.

Because mathematically we can still lose top two and part of that is requiring us getting pumped in both our games. So while I don't expect us to win, I'd like us to at least keep the game competitive.

I think they saw the impact Howe had up forward against Carlton and were hoping to hold it off until finals.

They copped the whack of Sicily tearing us a new one but weren't going to allow Stewart to do the same thing.

I really think Howe can become our most impactful forward in the finals as he gains more confidence over the coming weeks.
Agree and Howe’s footy IQ is what will also be a huge factor in finals eg that tap to McCreery in the 3rd QTR.
And I expect he’ll make sure we are very well organized.
