Going to be tough Friday night, but if we win without Daicos, Moore, DeGoey and Hill, those who were righting us off, may want to think again.
In saying that, should we lose, lets keep it to a 2 or 3 goal loss, we don't want to be smashed by a 6 to 7 goal loss.
There's every chance we will lose this game, factoring in our outs, which means we will hopefully regain DeGoey and Hill for the Essendoom game, and try to sew up top spot in that game...

I would be surprised if we're favourites. I'm tipping the odds are going to change considerably over the next few hours...
It's already $1.92 each at Sportsbet.

Brisbane will start favourites.

My question is who is second ruck?

You don't really want to be messing around with the backline (especially without Moore) and having Frampton give a chop out in the ruck will leave Murphy as the tallest defender with either Hipwood, Daniher or potentially both down there.

McStay wasn't much chop in the ruck and I'm not sure Mihocek has ever rucked in his career. We might have to swing Howe back for the stints Frampton does ruck

Pretty much as you say.

Mcstay and frampton to share second ruck duties for 2-3 minutes each per quarter, and Howe to cover frampton in defence if and when required

Fly has been super consistent with debutants since he took over.
1. They start.
2. They play more than 1 game.

So i'm expecting Ryan to play vs dons as well (unless he has an all time first game mare!)

Excited to see what we do this week tbh.
Feel like its a pre-season game, such is my low care factor on a win.

Just want no injuries and to see the method we go with.
Learnt enough from last weeks game to know where we sit.

I think the club will see this as a challenge as opposed to the doom and gloom on here!

Ah.
Yeah I'm not sure. he was in white. At this stage, I don't think so. Ive worked out the 22 for friday, it's just the sub position I don't know who it'll be.
Then I think he is done for the year. I'll say just one more time. The club is making a big mistake and I think we will ultimately pay for it.

Wouldn't be surprised if we won. Adversity brings our best.
The Lions are a very good side who play Marvel well. They have enormous incentive (more than us) to win and cement a home final. They have had the wood on us these past few years and we are missing our three best players and another who has the pace we so badly need. I would be very surprised if we won.

Maybe some doom and gloom, but considering the outs very much expected.
I think majority would be happy, even if we lost but put up a strong performance, with the quality of players missing. A good performance on Friday, should give us confidence going into the Essendon game and then into finals.
It's very much now a 50/50 game, or probably more 55/45 game in Brisbane's favour, so a loss won’t be as hard to take, as if we went into the game full strength and suffered a loss.
I'm still excited for what we can produce in the coming weeks!!!

That, on top of the outs, is a truckload of adversity. Our forte.

Suppose the question remains even more so without Darcy Moore is what do we do with the 2nd ruck.
McStay is the only option unless we pick Cox or Kreguer, for 10% ruck McStay capable and cannot be worse than Pickett or Tyler Brown

Potentially an unpopular opinion but I'd like to see Josh Daicos in the middle a little bit on Friday night, especially with Sidey back on a wing. Daicos had stints in the middle last year and did well and I think we may need some x-factor in there amongst Adams, Mitchell, Pendlebury with Naicos and JDG out

I don't think it should be an unpopular opinion - I actually think the idea of getting Daicos into the centre clearances is a good idea. I'd move him to the outside once the centre stoppage is over, probably for one of the slower guys who can start on the wing and move into the middle.

Agree, I recall us experimenting with him taking centre clearances last year, and he was quite effective. I know Pendlebury plays the sweeper position a lot in clearances, so it is not a like for like, but you could start Daicos in centre clearances and then immediately shift him back to the wing after the centre clearance. Similarly with Pendlebury, who is an effective general stoppage player, you could start him on the wing at centre bounce and then roll him on ball immediately after that.

B: B.Maynard - B.Frampton - I.Quaynor
HB: J.Noble - N.Murphy - O.Markov
C: J.Daicos - S.Pendlebury - S.Sidebottom
HF: T.Adams - B.Mihocek - B.McCreery
F: J.Howe - D.McStay - J.Elliott
R: D.Cameron - T.Mitchell - J.Crisp
I: J.Ryan - P.Lipinski - J.Ginnivan - W.Hoskin-Elliott

Looking like this will be the starting 22. A little left field, but I would love to see Kreuger as the sub

would make a lot of sense.

Especially as the murmurings seem to be that with Gunston out we will go with speed over height.

So Daniher and Hipwood talls.

Rayner and Ah Chee medium sized players who can take a grab.

Plus smalls.

If that happens Frampton could just follow Daniher in to the ruck, with Hipwood the only tall left.

If we go with Fort instead that changes the equation. McStay was very good for us in the WF v tiges last year as ruck nearly the whole game. Competed really well. He’s a very neat field kick.

Interesting contest with all the pies outs. Obviously weakens you but you seem to thrive with some adversity, eg good away record. We should have a lot more to play for but with that comes pressure - if we lose we really would be making up the numbers. Pies get a free hit at getting a huge mental edge over a finals opponent they haven’t beaten for a while

The other thing is our midfield in Neale and Dunkley are way below form. They’ll need to lift or we are no chance.

Clugga in great form. Cameron turned the match last week. But a lot of the side treading water

Good luck at least in terms of no more injuries, rough ride atm

How many fringe players play 17/22 games on a healthy list, as Gunston has?

Brisbane might rush Coleman back, but similarly he could miss.

I do think we are comfortable with placing less importance on this game than those in the future. We're gearing towards what matters

Callum Brown played 70 games for us
Tom Phillips couldn't be dropped if you paid Bucks

Gunston basically dropped himself earlier in the year

If you think Gunston is in their Top 10-15 players then...I dunno what to say. He's the very definition of a fringe player in that team. They have a pretty decent list. If Gunston was one of their best, I'd be genuinely concerned for them

For the life of me I don’t see what Cameron brings to the table that has him clearly elevated above Cox in the pecking order. No doubt Cox has had some absolute stinkers but he has also dominated matches and caused mayhem and panic within opposition sides. IMO Cox’s upside is so much higher than Cameron’s and he has shown himself to be a big game performer on multiple occasions. I really don’t get it. Anyway…..moving on.

Isacc Smith was Geelong’s best in last year’s Grand Final… just saying.

Cameron is out of form at the moment. At his best, he is the strongest pack mark in the side.

They are my exact sentiments. If Coxy had dropped that soda of a mark Cameron muffed in the last quarter on the wing last Friday night which led to a Geelong goal it would have become a meme overnight and brought a torrent of calls for the clumsy yank to be dropped. The most important point you made was in relation to Coxy's upside. I trust him in big games and he has proven his ability to turn matches and enflame the crowd like few others in this team. That is something which can't be measured but it is very real. Ginnivan for all his flaws does the same. He didn't just bring energy to the team; he lit up the crowd every time he touched it.

These two bring that intangible quality which is so important in September.
