Collingwood vs Nth Ballarat - VFL Preliminary Final

oh ok you must be talking about junior level or something because at afl and vfl level he has never been half as good

Rusling has kicked 4 in a final, more than Edwards has done for his whole career.

Rusling is two years younger, played half as many AFL games and has missed significantly more games through injury than Edwards. Yet he still averages the same amount of goals per game.

Like I said, if Rusling had had the same chances as Edwards, we'd be laughing at this comparison.
Better player that has been cut down by injury unfortunately.

My assessment is that Collingwood's depth has improved tremendously since the stand alone VFL team was introduced, and they have done better this season than many imagined.

Spot on. Never thought they would make it to the Prelim. It was a bonus to win 2 finals and play in 3 finals with all the younger kids. Will be great experience for them when they play in the AFL :D

um actually edwards has also kicked 4 in a final
no big deal

you are clearly talking about potential and that is fine
hopefully he can reach his potential and reach then overtake average, limited players like edwards

Reid: Our best yet again. Any queries over his disposal should have been put to rest. Occasionally went to ground when he shouldn't have, but no where near as often as he once did. Should be in our starting 22 next year, ahead of N.Brown. Will be interesting to see how he performs against some AFL forwards next year.

Brown: Had a bit of a stinker. He's in the same basket as Medhurst/McCarthy, injury has ruined his season. Did some very good jobs on Kozi/Roughead in the seniors, so not all is lost. Still needs to either slim down a little more or read the ball better, gets caught out of position/behind too often.

McCarthy: Had a poor game. Get a full uninterrupted preseason under his belt and he will be staking his claim for a spot in our 22.

Dawes: He still worries me. Our delivery to him is terrible, but he still needs to get more involved. Will perform better at the higher level, but he should should still be performing better at VFL. Has ok hands at ground level and can kick straight.

Medhurst: Much like McCarthy. Has never been able to recover from his injuries. Wasn't helped by the delivery into the forward line again. Good preseason and expect Medhurst to have a much better 2010.

Cook/Stanley: Might as well group them together. Very good VFL players. If I was to retain one, it would be Stanley. Better around stoppages.

Dyas: Defensively very good. Unfortunately he's horrible with ball in hand. Not sure he should be persisted with. Give me a more natural footballer any day.

Thoolen:

Corrie: To his credit, he did pretty well today. No spot in our senior side.

Bryan: Does something good and follows it up by doing the stupidest thing imaginable. Seaby can't be worse can he? (I seriously haven't seen enough of Seaby)

Keefe: A long way to go before he's ready for AFL. Shows glimpses and is worth persisting with.

Blair: Quiet today but has been great prior. Should be given another year on the rookie list, imo.

Bennel: 4 goals. Can't really complain with that. Lively enough, hopefully with more experience, he'll get more involved.

Blight: Still pretty raw. Had to play on some much bigger bodied opponents today and was sometimes exposed. Certainly has some very good attributes though.

Rounds: Even rawer than Blight. Probably his first season playing against men, should see some improvement next year.

Reed: Very Goldsack-ish. Neither here nor there size wise. Can find the ball though and with some added polish, could become a player.

Rusling: I think we will know within the first month of next season the future of Rusling. If he isn't up forward and in the seniors early next year, he's as good as gone. Certainly shouldn't have played today if he was going to play down back.

Barham: Unless his kicking improves dramatically, he won't cut it at AFL level.

Cox: Trade him, if he has any value at all.

Basing that off the finals/others reports. Despite a disappointing end to the season, if I was told we would make a PF at the start of the season, I would be rapt (and I am). Great season by the boys, hopefully we can go one or two steps further next year. :thumbsu:

very disappointing game to watch after the side has played so well throughout the finals.
Stanners BOG first final and 3rd best last week. No mention of that but everyone quick to point out his turn overs. What about his marking, tackling and great goal today.
In your very limited opinion you think he is not up to AFL well after watching the seniors tonight how many could join him. Beams - nothing, McCaffer not much Wellingham etc. etc. etc.
All of this is yet again overlooked. McCarthy well he turned around and kicked it straight the opposition. Great skills!!!!!!!!! How many times did he turn it over today and last week. No excuses!!!!!!
Stanners may not make it at AFL level but he has served the Collingwood VFL team so well over the years. You are all so happy to take the acalades when we win. He has tried his guts out every week and held his head high and gone out week in week out and played his heart out. Today he looked flat and almost beaten probably knowing that was his last game out there for Collingwood and after the game he looked quite emotional.
How about getting off his back and cutting him some slack he certainly does not deserve the shit you write about him.
I suppose none of you noticed he was the most heavily tagged player again. He has had to battle taggers every week and sometimes up to 4 throughout the game.
I wish him good luck and hope he gets a break somewhere else and makes you eat humble pie.
