Collingwood's level of support

Collingwood is the biggest club in the AFL

HOWEVER, some comments by pies supporters in this thread are Rubbish. Ess/Carl/Rich would easily generate a similar amount of attention.

the real question is? when will the next time be that "these big four" clubs.. like carlton, essendon and richmond start averaging over 60k a year attendence and 80k (quote: demetriou) at the mcg?

essendon - not likely until post 2020.
carlton - not likely, either.
richmond - look like they have the biggest chance and well? probably fail anyways.

membership numbers are inflated with all these new "1 game/3 game memberships" they are irrelevant, and id love to know the real full season members to whatever is considered the top echoen of membership @ the clubs are called.

Collingwood on the march is as close as any aussie would get to an EPL game:thumbsu: Great for the game, great for the country.

when collingwood has a membership waiting list CAPPED at 5k for 5 odd years and they have had a few shit seasons in a row culminating in a wooden spoon - yet you still cant get a membership for love or money - and has figures that look like this
members position crowd
2005 42,406 2nd 40,243
2006 44,138 1st 40,506
2007 45,949 3rd 40,791
2008 44,863 15th 34,452 [25]
2009 43,927 11th 36,377
2010 44,160

in a 43500 capacity ground - where too many of the ****ing members wont onsell their tickets if they dont attend (grrrrrrrr)

then i will accept your argument.

Collingwood = bandwagon club.

Enough said.

As much as I hate the ferals, and it pains me to say this, their supporters do stick by the club in large numbers even when down. Sure there is a bandwagon element when they are up, but you have that with every club, but they've got a very large loyal base.

Credit where credits due. They may be lacking in social skills and basic human function, but they're one of the most loyal band of supporters.

Not too bright are you? Atleast you are living up to the stereotype.:thumbsu:

I dunno, you seem to be the one who hasn't got any facts to back up his assertion. Your attempts to smokescreen by making petty jabs are internet 101 when it comes to trying to defend the indefensible.

The support for this club is amazing up or down. Fact is, if I ask someone who they barrack for within Melbourne, I can pretty much expect that the answer will be 'Collingwood' about 1 in 4 times, possibly better than that.

I STILL see the big 4 as being Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon and Richmond though.

And God help us when Richmond start winning, because I think they're probably 2nd right now, despite constant failure...

If Freo and the Weagles ever get in a GF together you will see the whole place come alive - it will be the biggest thing ever in the west.
My point is, that with the pies in the GF and with a good shot at making it, the place is alive - the city is pulsing with anticipation, excitement, passion and fear in a way that only happens after a drought and with bigger clubs. The Saints are part of this too - a longer drought - GF last year - beat 2nd on the way - fail this year it may never happen .......

I hope for you, that one day there is a Freo/WCE final - and it gets played in the west too. Its not about being Victorian - its about the scale of excitement you see all around.

Go Pies.......

Yes. I in fact did say in my post that I was referring to people within Melbourne, but congratulations for working that one out and announcing it in such a sensible manner :)

Its a big big grannie this one.

Seen quite a few Saints jumpers in Sydney also...no shortage of them about even tho i've seen a few more pie jumpers roaming the streets.

Classic VFL grannie this one...huge. Looks on the tv like a great atmosphere in Melb this week.

thats a hard one - at least if they played in w.a 45k supporters would get to watch rather than 11k - but in a crapped out stadium

theres something to be said for 100k + at the g - went to hawthorn geelong and what an aura...

Defend the indefensible? Are you the full quid? You are seriously trying to tell me that Collingwoods crowd figures don't suffer during down periods? Get a grip, dude, and then go and do some actual research.

Posting stats showing that the Pies have been top 5 just shows that they are a well supported club. Dig a little deeper and you might not embarrass yourself any further. :thumbsu:
