Still don't think losing a bona fide KPD after 8 years of investment for a draft pick is a great outcome but is what it is.

Disgust is too light a word for how certain clubs can operate with no cap and head office just lets it go.
He's a restricted free agent so we get right of final bid. If another club offers stupid money, obviously we wish him well and bank the top 5 pick. We are also in a fortunate position of having another 17 games to see if he can adapt to play within Clarko's system. If not, then his bonafides are worth a lot less to us than they might be to someone else. Remember that Clarko won premierships with key defenders he brought into his system knowing that they would be capable of adapting.

🤣I’m just annoyed that we let him trigger us - me, very much included. I can’t stand him.

What amuses me is that he thinks using #icebath is a trigger for North supporters. Surely that's more of an issue for Jason Francis. All it does for us is remind us that we are lucky to be rid of an unprofessional player who refused to do everything necessary to perform at his best.

That's fair.

Maybe a midfield / team structure driven path to success under Clarkson will place less dependence on individual heroics such as a KPD winning their one on ones a high % of time.

It would be fascinating if Carlton sunk low enough to make something their 1st pick + future 1st more appealing than a compensation pick. We could match and push it to arbitration a la Dangerfield/Cameron.

I'm sure the AFL would then still find a creative way to get him to Pratt Park while stiffing us.

Seems to be a reasonable appraisal of our last game - Freak trait masks Pies weakness; abject failure crushes flag hype as pretenders exposed: Report card

NORTH MELBOURNE

Look, it’s harsh to give a developing side an F-grade so early in the season after promising signs, but North Melbourne’s efforts just didn’t cut it on the Gold Coast. Blown away early by a Suns side that should have opened up more than a three-goal lead at quarter-time, there was no rhythm to the Roos’ game. It was almost a “training run” for the home side. North Melbourne were never in the contest after that horror start and lacked any sort of dare to get back into it. They coughed up 20 Suns marks inside 50 in a dismal day out for their defenders – for the second week running.

In the votes

It was the veterans Ben Cunnington and Jack Ziebell who led from the front on a disappointing day out on the Gold Coast. They finished as the club’s two highest ball-winners with 27 and 23 respectively. Todd Goldstein pulled his weight in his 300th milestone game, with 33 hit-outs, 14 touches, five clearances and three tackles. Aaron Hall was the man from defence trying to get the Roos some drive, finishing with 530m gained with his 22 touches.

Room for improvement

Ben McKay had a stinker against the Suns. He was beaten by Mabior Chol and then had his efforts questioned by Fox Footy experts in a tough outing. Nick Larkey couldn’t get near it as the Suns defence swarmed him at every opportunity. The Roos were accused of being too Larkey focused, as he was forced to compete outnumber time and time again. He finished his day with 1.1 from four touches, and spent time on the sidelines with a foot complaint. Rookie Harry Sheezel isn’t someone we’ve seen in this section, but he was tagged out of the contest on Sunday. Managing just 11 disposals – well down from his 30-plus average in his debut season, coach Alastair Clarkson had to swing him forward in an attempt to get him near it. It’ll be a good lesson for the kid.

I'm yet to read any proper analysis of what North is trying to achieve and where it is breaking down, all we get from the media is we played crap and the opposition took a lot of marks inside 50.
The media need to start hiring people who give a bit of detail on why things are happening instead of just surface level crap.

Almost?

Actually, that's probably a correct assessment as players at least have to change direction to get around witch's hats at training. The Suns players were running wherever they pleased without a care in the world for the majority of the game.

I know that I'm not a great analyst, but it seems to me that we have only two midfielders who are currently competitive for a full game. One is out injured and the second is either injured himself, not coping with the extra attention that he's getting in Simpkin's absence, or playing injured. I don't remember seeing LDU bursting away from a contest during the match. Zurhaar's form has also fallen away in Simpkin's absence.

Our structures are poor and or have been worked out. We're able to apply very little pressure during the game and our opponents run, mark and score at will. With a few notable exceptions, our older players aren't contributing enough, and our younger players aren't seasoned enough. We have no player that will consistently take a contested mark up the ground, so we rely on our rare run and carry to get the ball up the ground. It says so much about the state of our hopefully historic list and player development that we're depending on a first year player to be our play maker, someone whose played eight games to take a contested mark in our forward line, and that we're pinning so many of our hopes on a first year player who hasn't debuted yet. We have 'riches'of high draft picks but our seniors and reserves keep getting thrashed.

Our forward line is mostly static, and our entries into our forward 50 are rushed and poorly aimed.

Whatever we're doing isn't working, and I'm not sold on the team learning a game plan that they can't execute.

Note that I'm not planning on leaving my day job.

All AFL club members should have access to all CD stats and different camera angles (eg: behind the goal footage). If you aren't live at a game it's very difficult with the coverage to understand why a defensive zone is breaking down like our's has the last 2 weeks. The special comments guys either don't want to inform us or don't understand themselves.

Garry Lyon on SEN saying when Clarko started at Hawks they were bottom 4 for pts against and we're similar.
In other words, it's going to take a while for the players to learn the system.

Sounds like a long way of writing that we don't have any good players between the age of 26 and 30 years old. The Scotts years.
