I can’t have us whinging about wanting more levers to pull when we haven’t even bothered to use the Pre Season Draft for what it’s there for.

Don’t know why we blinked, and don’t know why players coming to the Club don’t want to be ruthless and put the club they are going to in the best position.

If we used that lever we could have had CCJ, Logue and Fisher and used the draft capital used to acquire more talent.

Instead we have to be the nice guys and invariably we are just the fluffer for better deals and nothing particularly advantageous has come back our way yet either.

The use of the Preseason Draft is very rarely utilised by any of the clubs when it comes to a trade situation which suggests that no club wants to be seen as impossible to deal with when it comes to trade time. We are not alone.

Going down that path on a regular basis would just become a case of what comes around, goes around. We are not in a great position to play that sort of game.

omg i hate #3 soooo much. he bends down to pick up the ball, gets tackles immediately and is pinged.

like why fking bother winning the ball at all?
I love it flyhigh 18 . I'd rather they punched or kicked it forward to advantage if they are about to get tackled. I find that pick up, get tackled, flop like dying fish part of footy really boring.

that's also true... but this is really removing the incentive go for the ball and play the game.

we already see players just waiting to tackle instead of ball winning. doesn't this change mean we're just going to see more of that now?

Exactly, if the ball is in dispute, you would be better of not trying to pick it up and wait for the opponent to do so. Then tackle them immediately and win a htb free kick.

Edit: didn’t see your post above!

Why would you wait if the opposition was going to punch or kick the ball to advantage? You would get dragged. (Note. Not if you played for North, you'd get a big smile and a bum slap)

I like that you are both discussing it. The reality is good sides will train their players to be there for the quick handball and good players will give off that handball. In that one you didn't like the player had a split second to dispose of the ball.

More time than some of the others.

I can see this rule being used against LDU while he plays for us despite the later example where its play on too.

Ferball, I hope you are not being dragged down by all the Negative Nancys into believing that LDU is going to play for someone else. It's NOT happening.

The idea to put a minimum figure on trading players without consent is a good one. But I would put the minimum at $150k, not $1m. $150k is bloody good coin, particularly for 18-30 year olds. It's not like they get sent to Christmas Island or Syria (which is apparently better than QLD), they're going to some of the world's most livable cities...
Honestly, $150k sounds like a lot but it isn't what it used to be. Our minds haven't adjusted to how significant inflation is yet. And a third of that you don't take home anyway.

I dunno what the future holds but I like winding people up sometimes.

LDU might leave, he might not. Nuclear war might break out over summer.

In the rock bottom thread people brought up LDU leaving, or their fear of LDU leaving. These are my responses:

Then we suck it up and get on with it.

and

There's no guarantees of anything. Beating yourself up over the worst that could happen will just **** you up.

I see Sheeze and Wardlaw not take possession and tap the ball to advantage if it's obvious they are about to be tackled. That's better than watching Lmac take the ball and get tackled and another ball up.
wasn't letting the opposition get the ball and swarm them part of richmond's game plan?

pretty much (correctly) figured that with the ball in dispute and multiple around the ball it was sometimes better to let the opposition get it and tackle them/spill it out (when the opposition is taken out of it) then get it first time.

Now let's see how many times over the next few weeks the umpires **** this up. Realistically, those examples are more consistent with the way supporters (and probably players) want the game officiated. The way that umpires have been "interpreting" HTB in recent times has been abysmal. Some umpires are more abysmal than others to be fair.

There has to be consistency. First minute, last minute, top team, bottom team, star player, complete spud - none of that should matter. Umpires have to be colour blind, they need to ignore the clock and they need to adjudicate based on what they actually see, not on what they assume happened.

My preferred response to any of these types - LDU will still be at North long after you jumped the fence and started supporting Essendon.

Richmond has also been at the bottom of the free kick differential ladder for many years.

AFL: We want a game that is free flowing and we want to reduce stoppages of play.
Also AFL: changes rule around time to pay HTB, rather than focusing on paying HTB correctly

Can't wait for games with free kick counts of 40-40
