News Compensation Pick for Krakouer

If future earning and playing capacity is a large component of the compensation determination, then the fact that Krakwhore is 5 years younger than Bock, and GAJ for that matter, shouldn't that mean a better return for us?

you mean like a discounted cash flow on a new coal mine versus an old empty coal mine?
well spotted

I believe (although can't be too sure) that in MLB, if you lose a player through free agency you get a pick at the end of the first round. No matter what the quality of the said player is. I think they have to be on the main roster and not the farm system.

Happy to be corrected on this but its certainly an interesting alternative. Of course the depth of the draft pool compensates for the fact everyone gets the same compensation.

I also thought the AFL had removed the contract value from the consideration for compensation and moved to a banded system. Overall I think having the AFL determine the compensation when they have a vested interest in the Gold Coast succeeding is inappropriate but we've gone too far down that path now.

Sure they would. Richmond are an important club to the AFL - band 1 for sure. If it looked like happening, they'd re-revise the rules to suit.

OK, how about Darryl Wakelin for another example? He was 26 when we traded pick 4 for him, and he wasn't even an All-Australian.

Band 3 for any All-Australian key backman is small beer.
I've taken your point into consideration Porthos. The reality is AFL clubs are working in a unique market at the moment. The point of conjecture is going to be what the club values the player at and what the AFL values the player at.

if richmond offered martin for krakoer, would you take it?

of course! so no doubt martin should attact higher compensation than krak

No, I think you miss my point. I was talking about the Ablett is a Tripple MVP, Brownlow medalist, Tripple AA, Tripple B&F, Dual premiership player he = band 1, Bock is a AA and a B&F = Band 3, Martin is not even a top 5 finish in the Rising star award...

How the hell did that happen?

Martin was ineligible for the Rising Star. Was reported and found guilty of rough conduct early in the season.

One thing we can do is work on making trengove, butcher, chappy, carlile, hitchy etc, all absolutely despise the idea of living and commuting in Sydney. That would be a useful defensive strategy.

That bold bit is easy, let 'em try for a weekend.

Now the living bit is a lot harder.............hmmm

Particularly given they will be based in western Sydney. No quick walks down to Bondi beach.

Just chuck them on a train heading out West. The passengers alone should be enough to scare them off.

Well except for Trengove. He might like the idea of getting in a fight on the way to and from training each day. :)

Anyone who we want to sign a contract in 2011 but wont and might be tempted by GWS, then there is an easy way to hold onto them. Make them live in Blacktown for a week or two and only let them move within a 10km radius from Blacktown oval and that should convince them to re-sign with us.

i want to know why the compo goes band 3 , end of 1st, than band 4, end of 2nd? massive difference between them. why couldnt they make one in between those? middle of 2nd round, directly after the teams that finished outside finals 2nd pick? so assuming 8 still make finals thats after 10 teams so at best pick 29 would be it, although with pp for crap teams could push it back or other compo picks would as well. something like pick 29- early 30's would have been about right i think. does anyone think the AFL spent more than 10 mins thinking this through before patting themselves on the back and jumping back on the first class flight to the gc? pa should present that to andy and ask him why he didnt think about that?

Well band 3 is end of first round and band 4 is actually 2nd round (not end of second round) so....

It is after your second round selection, it should possibly read at the completion of the compensated teams round two selection. So if we are pick 35 we get pick 36 not the selection after that years premiers!

Jacobs would want to be All-Australian next year at this rate.

really? so directly after our 2nd round pick in any of the next 5 years? sorry i thought i read differently, actually there are any amount of different stories out there about the gc concession picks. so we get pick 34 this year- that means 35. ild take it this year. next year ild back us to finish pretty close to where we are now, maybe a bit higher, i doubt we would finish much lower. 18 teams 2nd round + everyone rushing to take their picks after gws could push it back. i was talking to a mate today, ( hawks supporter) who seems to think campbell brown would get an end of 1st pick? hard to disagree completely but these concessions really arent gonna reward the teams who give up young players who can play 200+ games for gc.

Unfortunately philthy we look like the only club in this predicament (losing young player who can play 200 games), with the only possible exception likely to be Harbrow from the Dogs. I really hope Krakoeur fails. Sorry if that offends/annoys anyone.

The sad part of all this is. I was really starting to like Krakouer as a footballer :(
