I think I'm obsessed with tall players.

In 2013, I was hoping deep down that Fantasia wouldn't get drafted as I couldn't take that name seriously at the time and I thought Zac Merrett was simply to keep Jackson company.

As for 2018, I don't know who I want yet.

Please bear in mind that I didn't follow the draft prospects on here until 2011.

I didn’t want Brayshaw with pick 5, so hearing his name read out for pick 2 had me wanting to throw my wineglass at the tv!
I wanted Rayner or LDU with pick 2, & Stephenson with pick 5, but I am happy with Cerra, & I hope Brayshaw proves me wrong

Didn't want Nathan Murphy he's as slow as treacle and really has shown little. Thought we may have been keen when Warne started pumping up his tyres.
Only Concentrated on Footy Late so not a Huge Shock he not done a Ton.

Though has Big Upside and has the Right Attitude

Yeah as a late pluck maybe but not a first rounder.

I say he was best Probably a 15-20 Pick. IF we did Take him at Pick 6 it would be Way Overs and that was a Bit of a Worry we even thought about him taking him at 6.

Happy us Picking him at 39 though

Notable clashes are Cook v Darling (2010), Toumpas v Wines (2012), Salem v Freeman (2013), and Weideman v Curnow (2015). I liked Connor Blakely in 2014 but liked Brayshaw a little bit more. Wouldn't have been upset if we'd taken Lever at pick 3 either.

2012 - Was happy with Vlastuin, also liked Menzel
2013 - Sheed, was ok with Lennon
2014 - Wanted Laverde, didn't think much of Ellis
2015 - Wanted Mathieson, happy with Rioli
2016 - Wasn't too interested since our first pick was at 29, happy with Bolton
2017 - Was hopeful that Stephenson would slide to us, also wanted Naish, Brander, Balta, and Hayes over CCJ. Very happy with what panned out though with Higgins, Balta, CCJ and Naish didn't expect us to get three ahead of Naish.

The only real one that sticks out for me would be Vickery over Ziebell. At the time I was gutted we didn't end up with him. The other one that sticks out was Lennon, I wasn't really happy with picking him, can't remember who I wanted instead of him.
Wanted Brander Balta and Hayes last year, especially Brander, was cursing West coast. Also wasn't keen on Naish, would of preferred an inside mid, but he cost us nothing so I'll leave it there.

I was a Huge Fan of him when Watching him in the U-18 Champs and Was Hoping he get to Collingwoods Pick at 11 but did not and we took Sidebottom.

Looking back now it worked out for the Best

I also wanted Collingwood to take Brander at 6 but closer the Draft got the Less likely it was and we went Stephenson. Interesting how that will Turn Out

Laverde when we took Boekhorst. We're probably ahead seeing as neither of them are on the list now!
Laverde is still on Essendons list. Had a shocking run with injury though.

I doubt the scrutiny on Boekhorst would have been as much had you taken him at 28 though. He’s a solid footballer. Just like many, he’s in the zone of being too good for WAFL/VFL but just not good enough to consistently perform at AFL level.

Sorry, I know Laverde is on their list, just buggered up the wording of the post on account of a few pints. I just think he's a waste of a spot.
FWIW I thought Boek was stiff to get the arse considering he played a ripper last couple games and a few out of contract blokes who had shown far less go were kept on the list. Also thought one of the WA clubs would have taken a rookie punt on the lad.

Ah, fair enough, all been there. :D Unfortunately for Jayden he may not get a chance to really prove himself if his propensity to get injured continues.

As for Boek, you’re not alone in that thought. His back-end of last year was good, good enough to stay on a list for one more year imo. I thought for sure we would have given him a rookie spot- especially when we missed out on Kelly in the draft.

Agreed it was just plain weird for Boekhorst to play some good footy towards the end of the year only to be replaced by Matt Shaw of all people.

Not taking trades into account because there are some I wouldn't have done. This would be my drafting record with the Gold Coast Suns.

2014
1.8 Peter Wright
I was torn between Wright and Cockatoo but would've taken Wright.
1.15 Jarrod Garlett
Was hoping for Lever but was taken before our pick. I would've taken Laverde.
2.29 Touk Miller
Wanted Touk. Was so happy with the pick.

2015
1.8 Callum Ah Chee
Wanted Sam Wiedeman. I did like Ah Chee so wasn't too upset but I would've taken Wiedeman
1.20 Brayden Fiorini
I did like Fiorini so not upset with it. If it was me I would have tried Ben Keays. I was huge Keays fan. If Brisbane matches I would've then taken Darcy Tucker. Had both them rated a tad higher than Fiorini
2.34 Josh Schoenfeld
I had Harley Balic, Rhys Mathieson, and Marcus Adams rated higher. My pick would've been Harley Balic
3.52 Mackenzie Willis
Nick O'Kearney, Kade Stewart, Gach Nyuon, Mabior Chol, Rueben William were all rated higher by me. I would've taken O'Kearney

2016
1.4 Ben Ainsworth
This would've been my pick
1.7 Jack Scrimshaw
I would've taken Will Brodie here. Had Brodie rated higher. At the moment was a little upset
1.9 Will Brodie
Wasn't upset anymore over the Scrimshaw pick.
With me already taking Brodie I would've taken Jarrod Berry.
1.10 Jack Bowes
Absolutely
4.67 Brad Scheer
Would've done the same

2017
1.19 Will Powell
Didn't like it. I was torn between Noah Balta and Charlie Spargo but Balta would've been my pick
3.42 Charlie Ballard
Would've tried for Connor Ballendan. Brisbane matches I take James Worpel.
3.52 Brayden Crossley
Would've done this
3.55 Connor Nutting
Wasn't upset at the pick but I would've gone with Jonty Scharenberg

Actual vs mine

Wright/Wright
Garlett/Laverde
Miller/Miller
AhChee/Wiedeman
Fiorini/Tucker (Keays)
Schoenfeld/Balic
Willis/O'Kearney
Ainsworth/Ainsworth
Scrimshaw/Brodie
Brodie/Berry
Bowes/Bowes
Scheer/Scheer
Powell/Balta
Ballard/Worpel (Ballanden)
Crossley/Crossley
Nutting/Scharenberg

I wonder if in a world where Carlton don't have Cripps, they pick LDU instead of Dow.

LDU and Cripps are similar sizes and similar mids so it was the right choice to get Dow.

Pretty similar with Fyfe and LDU. Tall strong mids.

Seems both Carlton and Fremantle picked different types of players to what they had.

Did luke grow 8cm since draft night? Cripps is KPP size, not even remotely similarly.
187cm is above average, same height as Dusty but he's still an inch shorter than the new age 'tall mid'

Ahhh... nobody said he was exactly the same height as patrick cripps. Would you say Nat Fyfe is a tall mid? I think most people refer to him as a tall mid (as they do with Davies-Uniacke). Nat Fyfe was drafted at exactly the same height as LDU.

It's not how you tall you are exactly, its how you play.

You said they were similar size, it's like saying a Wood and Brown are similar size, you're just plain wrong.
Doesn't really matter what size Fyfe was drafted as, he grew, sure if Luke does grow that extra inch+ then he too will be a tall midfielder.
