Certified Legendary Thread CONFIRMED: Welcome to Hawthorn, Shaun Burgoyne

Any videos of him playing like this since the knee problems? Seeing him hobbling around Melbourne on crutches recently really makes you wonder how confident we can be in his future performance. What is the status of his injury? I am presuming there has been some sort of report that shows he is going to be 100% or else there wouldnt have been so much effort put into getting him. Knee problems have a nasty habit of becoming chronic.

Doubt it... he returned to play the last handfull of H&A games this year with average impact. A number of "burgoyne" moments and clearances etc... but given team issues this year, his brother's retirement... you could tell (and several other players) were just not focused and were going through the motions.

The injury itself IIRC is bruising inside the knee that obviously causes pain and discomfort. Main problem with it is doctors don't know how to treat it apart from rest (which for about 10 weeks this year). By all reports it is similar to what Andrew Mcleod was diagnosed with about 4-5 years ago.

No doubt Hawthorn would have considered this and are confident they will get good service out of him.

Cheers

Is there any updates on Burger's Knee injury? Has he recovered or is he still recovering? Wanna see him play round 1 next year, cos we wont have bateman or buddy!

When you guys get to watch this guy closely each week, you are gonna ****ing love him.

There are a couple of ifs. One is the knee, but that should come better. The reason he is on crutches at the moment is that he had surgery on it a month or so ago. The other "if" is whether you can get him well motivated.

If both of these two work out, you guys have landed a HELL of a player, someone who at his best is reminiscent of Judd.

Grats, enjoy.

Interesting that SEN have said that Choco called Schoenmakers even though he was apparently on the untouchable list?
@SENNEWS have you heard much about the rumours surrounding Choco ringing Shoenmakers from the Hawks?
@rockinroddyb ... Yep he did call him, but he turned it down, then they tried Brown, who also knocked them back.

Apologies for bumping this thread. Was doing some reading on Burgoyne and noticed that he has now played 138 games for us in 6 years. That's an average of 23 games a year! Considering there was some question over his knees when he was brought in that is some damn good reliability. If he manages to play 20 games next year he'll have played more games as a Hawk than as a Port player.

One of the clubs best trades, we got Burgers in exchange for pick 9 (Moore, delisted a few days ago) and Williams (knees blew out not long after).

Either way this Burgoyne trade will cost us a premiership.
But the fact remains Hawthorn with Jolly is a better team than Hawthorn with Burgoyne
Now it isn't Pelchen's fault that Robbie Campbell had to retire for he couldnt have seen this coming when he had SB in his sights many months ago. But still I believe this week's events will affect us very negatively when we reflect on it at the end of next year or even the year beyond that.

Not really ...

Re: Burgoyne deal done

A few years out, but correct! Great read back at some of the posts at the time too.

No apologies necessary -- humorous read through past posts.
