Yeah I’m not sure how many times though someone has to post Tasmania’s population numbers or how far a drive it is between Hobart and Launceston pretty sure everyone knows makes it like these are the deciding factors why we shouldn’t have a team!

I responded to the usal "but but geelong has a team" stuff

And im not sure how often people bring Geelong into the conversation like Tasmania has a handy 5 million folks a relatively short train ride away hidden in the hills around Campbelltown or something that i missed. Its not even remotely the same.

Ignore the guy just rehashes the same things over and over again adds nothing new acts like an expert on every thing to do with Tasmania but its pretty obvious he has very little knowledge of the place makes ill informed posts!

well having spent 9 months there recently and due to head back there permanently soon, I guess i need people to educate me on my apparent ignorance.

Yeah well split that 5 million people among 9 other clubs and you come back with a number per club very similar to Tasmania’s population I notice you never mentioned that though !

Well it'll embarrass the local council who have owned both the DEC & Wilkinsons point for over 20 years, & done SFA with either of them.

The next idea a local council gets, will be their first. Most of them are full of overpaid, Brainless & arrogant bureaucrats.

Was more about the success of sport to pull a crowd, keep pulling a crowd.

The worst clubs in Melbourne aren't the benchmark for new entrants.

Looking at Geelong & Tasmania is about looking at what a team does to a city or region. Its the community benefits of pride, unity as well as the economic aspects.

I'd suggest that is what one should look at when making any comparison.

Sure however pretending Geelong exists in isolation from Melbourne - the Cats literally play home games in Melbourne - is flawed and, when said by some posters, just disingenous. It's not unusual for people who've always lived in Melbourne to actively support (attend games) the Cats.

There isn't 5 million people living near Hobart. That's a comparison.

People do similarly with "but Green Bay Packers!", pretending they don't know millions of people live in Wisconsin.

10 clubs in the port Phillip region is also a factor. Its not all about 5million near Geelong. Its about how many will benefit Geelong. That aint many of the 5million.

No, I'm looking at the psychosocial & economic factors that affect/benefit a town/region. Like Geelong, Townsville, Newcastle.

The Tassie business case as presented to the AFL suits, stands/falls depending on the AFLs own politics.

Geelongs approach to its stadium is more informative/relevant than Melbourne.
Then there is Ballarat, the AFL supporting games there: https://www.afl.com.au/venues/24

To be fair, just about every Tasmanian on bigfooty admits they won't switch. Some say they'll buy a membership as their 2nd team, but that will struggle to last.
You can't just make up stories to suit your argument. There are several Tasmanians who said they'd switch to supporting the Tasmanian side - some said they'd support their old club as a second club. Count me as one of those. I would change my primary team to Tas, and keep supporting MFC as a second team. I'd probably end up dropping my paid membership with MFC because I can't justify paying to support two clubs. If Tas gets a team, I would buy a membership at the first possible opportunity. There are plenty of people like me. Sentiment and old club loyalties are all very nice, but when you've got a local team you can see every fortnight, the lustre of supporting a mainland team you see once a year (or more likely not at all) wears off very quickly.

Didn’t say anything about the worst clubs I said if you split 5 million up between 9 clubs it’s pretty similar to Tasmania’s population that’s wrong is it ?

If your going to take the whole population of Tasmania - and some parts are a long way to drive if you are going to Hobart or Launceston- then you have to factor in Victorias population of 6,594,804 for 10 clubs, to Tasmanias 533,308 for a potential 1.

Yeah that’s fine mate how many people living in north western Victoria do you think follow Geelong bit different to situation to Tasmania also I’m not sure how you get the long drive and Tasmania in the same sentence the furthest possible you can be in the whole state from Hobart or Launceston is about 3-3.5 hours it seems like you just like to pick and poke and find problems that aren’t really that big of a deal!
