Well he won’t if people keep bringing it up enough that it becomes a discussion point. And we know where journos get their ideas for articles from…..

Harley isn’t gonna sign a 10 year deal just so you can sleep easy at night.

No doubt he is enjoying it at the moment, but he’d be stupid not to keep his options open, and Harley doesn’t seem stupid. What people write on big footy won’t have any impact on that.

I don't care who the player is, it could be ****ing jesus. You don't offer a ten year contract to anyone let alone a first year player. You could say a contract even close to that long has worked once and even still Lynch wasn't the same player after the chronic fatigue, yes he kicked a shitload of goals but ended up being a much closer to goal player. The club will have a shitload of cap space in 27-30 so the absolute max I would offer would be 4 years and I wouldn't be offering that until next year.

Have a sit down say you've come in and done some amazing things and you're still a really young bloke who's contracted for another 2 full years after this one. Just sit back, take it in, enjoy your footy, learn everything you can and we'll ensure your future is well and truly looked after next year, until then just enjoy being part of the biggest sporting club in Australia.

Hopefully Harley is happy and loves the club, it looks like it from the outside. I would aim to extend the contract out to 2029, an extension of three years for 3.5M

2027 - 1M
2028 - 1M
2029 - 1.5M

Three years is a long time, and it is likely the AFL will bring in RFA/UFA to the 6/8 year mark rather than leaving it at 8/10 years as it stands.

That is assuming I understand the rules. Years 1 to 3 are fixed and it doesnt allow them to increase the initial agreement of three years, correct? The club needs to let sell that they cant lock it all in on Harley and if they do that they will struggle getting a team in to win what they all play for a premiership.

He'll make plenty of money being the face of the Eagles and he will have whatever he wants during his career and after his career but he cant be greedy.

Naughty boy, posting his weight. Don’t you know this will now cause him mental illness? Generation today prefer to be in denial and not have to deal with things.

Infraction and delist.
Its obvious that the AFL changed it to having no weight after the women's competition got up and running. Men don't give a fu*k about their weight, in fact its good to be heavy for men in the AFL, it means they are putting on muscle.

Jesus would sighn a 10 year deal for free, its just him. Plus dad could just click his fingers and 20 billion dollars would just appear out of no where.

I don't think we can extend by more than 1 anyway.

So lock him in for 4 including this season.

Salary can't go up until year 3.

A front loaded 4th year is what will happen just to lock in earning security.

That was some weird rumour that went along with new 3 year contracts.

Turns out everyone just carried on with it and didn’t bother to ask. There is no limit on years we can extend him.

Another excellent Colts performance from Kayle Gerreyn. He dominated his opponents in the ruck all day providing hit outs to advantage his teammates or often just grabbing the ball and driving it forwards himself. He even showed some of his potential as a key forward, chipping in with two goals.

I had him and Van Der Struyf as options for 4R/rookie this year. The Davo puts VDS in his top defenders and now this! Was trying to keep a lid on it but as always thanks for the media!

I know what I’m writing is exactly what Jon Ralph wants but what if next year…

Sam Taylor and LDU on band 1 FA contracts and we trade for Chad Warner

Would also like to look at Starcevich as a FA.

To be fair, there's been a buzz around Gerreyn since he grew 8cms last year. A half decent champs and he'll cement a top 20 draft spot I imagine.

There’s zero incentive for Harley to sign an extension longer than 2 years.
Why not?

If you are being offered a contract where the price assumes or implies you will be a top 10 player in the comp for the next decade and pays you accordingly then what is the disadvantage? I guess if decided to go with a series of short term contracts and were able to stay injury free and be a top 5 player instead of just a top 10 for that length of time of 8 or 10 years then theoretically you could earn more than you if you had gone with a long term deal. But what are the odds of things working out that way? 5%? And how much extra money would you have earned? Maybe 20%

And on the other hand what happens if you go with short term contracts and then get injured for a significant period of time during the next 8 - 10 years, or get an injury that means you are never the same player again, or at the very least you are not a top 10 player in the comp anymore? What are the odds of that? Maybe 25% And how much would if affect your earnings? Maybe 30% plus?

If a club offers you a long term contract that is priced to assume you will be a top 10 player for the next decade then if you are not completely mathetically and statistically illiterate then you would take it.

Harley could have a 12 month injury and it wouldn’t affect his contract value. Clubs would still pay through their ears regardless.

I’ve already ansewered your question.

It’s not about money. Harley will earn 15-20 million over his career factoring in on and off field earnings.

It is about Harley ensuring on field success. West Coast is still very much a risky proposition in early stages of a rebuild.

Three weeks ago, half this board was in the 100 page long priority pick thread saying how we needed picks or we’d be at the bottom for years to come, and how we were worse than north and a lock for the spoon.

Harley is right to sign for two. See where we are at in 3-4 years time and then make a decision on whether to stay based on how we are tracking with our rebuild.

Look at Sheezel who is signed to North until 2030. He should sack his manager.

The first 3 would probably cost us about 4 mil per year, I know we've got cash to splash but how much is the question?

I think 4 mill is about what Phil quoted? Massive front ended deals for them. I think Duggo on 800k will be our highest paid in 2026. TB maybe around that mark. Gaff, Darling gone, TK, Yeo and Gov will be on hugely reduced deals if still playing.
