And Hawthorn should and will be pilloried for not getting the deal done

Maybe not by the vic media but Paul Connors has already given them a serve reportedly

Good luck to them getting players across if they don’t land Barrass because they tried to short change us on a trade

Their record of attracting big names hasn’t been great. Couldn’t get Smith. Missed McKay last year

Put a lot of work into Barrass to get him to commit but now won’t pay the price
It is clear at this point that despite the Hawthorn/Barrass thing having gone on for 6 months we never got Hawthorn to commit to a trade price for him. That should have hapenned first, not last. Because he is contracted. Not wait till trade week to discuss the trade price with Hawthorn.

If Hawthorn didn't want to put their chips on the table and wanted to sequence it such that they would have until trade week to discuss trade price we should have shut the whole thing down and poured cold water all over it very early on. Told Barrass to find another club and this what we will need in return and they need to pledge it up front. Instead we not only allowed them keep wining and dining Barrass and sweet talking him, we more or less encouraged it and took it as a fait accompli that they would behave the way we would and pay something close to what we wanted when trade week rolled around.

The Barrass fiasco is another stuff up from Pyke and Clarke. Just because you wouldn't act in bad faith and take advantage of other clubs trust don't assume that all other club's will behave the same way towards you.

And obviously for each scenario not offering enough…it’ll only get less next year as he gets older. Not hard to understand

There is zero chance we get more for Barrass next year compared to what weve been offered this year

Happy to bookmark

Zero chance... the offer right now is a pick in the late teens to mid twenties and a pick in the forties with a 3rd rounder going back

Bookmark it if you like

At the very least next year we can get the trade back on our terms

Can someone explain why we need currency for Chad Warner next year?

We will presumably have picks 1-6 and 19-25, plus all of our 2026 draft picks. If that is not enough to get deal done for an OOC Chad Warner then don't get a deal done.

Freo this year, Geelong in 2020 just show that if you have multiple assets you just end up giving up multiple assets. Chad Warner, who may or may not be available, isn't prime Chris Judd or Gary Ablett.

You just explained very well why we should trade in at least 1 future 1st. Hawks.

And then trade out our own future 1st into this draft.

Warner will need picks to get and Id rather it be the Hawks 2025 1st plus other picks than what ours likely will be.

Seems to that we are the new Gold Coast.

Trade push overs, don't value our draft picks and trades for players that are WAFL quality.

Retirement Village for old footballers wanting an easy pay cheque, with a CEO that has no idea about strategy and should be on gardening leave.

I would have preferred losing pick 3 on Shai Bolton....

Just got home from work. How many 1st Round picks did we get for Barrass and who are are we taking with pick 3?

You have returned home a year early Rip Vanwinkle .

They'll delist him next year and we can rookie him, turning him into the next Tim Kelly

Dev would be rightly pissed off, agreed a new contract in good faith to only play two games and Brisbane playing silly buggers with it.

Ah well

So trading pick 3 to get out of the top 10 to trade a future first which will most likely be top 5 to get back into this year's draft...?

Talk of Tigers trading up for Norths pick 2.
If that happens it'l be a slap in the face for Clarke and he's so called Richmond connections. Surely we would've been talking about a slide for 3 to Tigers in the Baker deal. We could've had 6 for 3 + change or at worst 10 without giving up any later picks.
No way is 6 being traded for 3 + when top 7 are equal
Richmond may offer 10 +11 for 2

Hypothetically if we renegotiated with Barrass for a 2025 contract only, would he then be a free agent at the end of the next season? Because we would likely get a better pick just as a compo one than trading him out at this rate.

Given Don has exposed our intentions, hawks know we want to get back into this draft and we need their picks to do that. I see this playing out 2 ways.

1) they keep the F1 and F2 offer active right up to the deadline hoping we cave early and accept so we can do something with it and trade back into this year.

2) if we don't bite the above, they will offer 2xF1 with a F3 going back at the very end of the trade period, so we cant do anything with the F1s until the draft.

they can basically **** us in both options.

Pick trading is allowed almost any time between now and the draft so timing is no big deal in that regard - would only be if we were trying to use it for Dev.

Wonder how Hedwards would feel if Barrass ends up staying.

Goodness gracious me oh boy wowee, signed up again to vs WAFL forwards in a team getting pumped, when he could be getting pumped at AFL level instead.
Play Gov as a Swingman/third tall. Problem solved. Playing Gov would be immensely better than having to play Rotham.

Maybe not straight up but I'm sure we could've done something with it if we were a bit more creative. We said we wanted to keep a top pick and then backed down. Not sure why we couldn't wait for the Freo and GCS deals to be done and then done something with them. If it came down to it, they would've done Baker + 10 for 3 at worst

archiemoses you can also trade picks on draft day itself, so we still have options if we only get the second of your scenarios.
