I will save everyone 3 months of thinking about it.

Here is a run-down on draft night.

Gill comes on.

With Pick#1 of the 2023 NAB AFL Draft, the West Coast Eagles have selected Harley Reid from the Bendigo Pioneers.

Then Kevin Sheehan will do some commentary saying the words such as elite at least 3 times.

Brad Johnston will provide words of no substance with annoying giggles and excitement in between, and then finally Sarah Jones cuts over to Kingy.

David King reluctantly shows Harley's highlight packages, knowingly regretfully he won't be a North but will get through it with that annoying copyright free music in the background.

Then, an interview with Harley saying he is happy to be drafted and going to West Coast.

Pity no Tom Morris interview with Harley Reid this year.

You have not save us the 3 months because Gill has gone!

The below 3 ruckman have been talked about as ones we might be chasing this off season. None
are going to reach (pun intended) the heights of our previous top class ruckman, but as other clubs have shown us, they don;t need to be. Based on the influence Nic has had on Bailey Williams this year, I think there is more development in Nick Bryan should Nic continue to help with the rucks next year.

Depends if Gold Coast are willing to give us pick 4.

If not, Walter will go at no.1 when we place a bid on him.
In real life, I do believe this will be part of the negotiation.

Edit: I assume GCS prefer to have the equivalent points with lower picks. (in case Walter slides to pick 4 or lower)

I do think we need a Schofield or EMac type KPD who just kills contests. Too often Barass and Gov go for the intercept mark and it spills for a goal. I’d like to see us find someone to play this role - certainly not drafting a KPD at 1 though cmon be serious

Especially when in this draft there are a couple of KPD’s in O’Sullivan and Murphy who are very good but also likely available from the back end of the top 10 and into the early teens.

GWS, Geelong, Essendon, Adelaide, WB would all be keen to improve their position up the order. GC obviously chasing points.

WB are an interesting one, 10 may be before the Croft bid… but maybe not. I would say that they would happily give 10+17 (pending Brisbanes final position) for 4. GC could then trade us 10 for some later picks plus a F2nd plus no Walter bid. 17 will be sought after too.

The trade will need some balancing, but we could definitely get involved and get the elite KPD we need (one of many needs tbf) whilst keeping 1 & 19, and satisfying the other clubs trade requirements.

Why would Harry want to go there?

They are arguably carrying less momentum into next year than us.

To play? Essendons key defensive stocks are pretty poor, he’ll have a much better chance of breaking into their team than ours.

I’m fine with dealing guys like him, gives us more picks to throw at the Suns for their pick 4.

I can't imagine we would be offered anything more than a 4th rounder.

Dodoro: "We'll give you Jake Stringer and Michael Hurley for Pick 1, Harry Edwards and some pick upgrades in the later rounds, we'll sort that out later."

Has Reid got pace?

I get he's a beast but will he help our plodding midfield?

Still get burnt on transition?

I wouldn't call him Usain Bolt but he's a powerful kid with explosiveness so yeah is no plodder.
Plus we have Hewitt and Ginbey who are both quick.

Massive credit to Noobermensch on BF otherwise known as Footy Stuff on youtube for the work he's been doing in highlighting this years draft contenders big games. Some really useful videos of two of the WCE NGA Boys here.

Oscar Hine-Baston vs VIC C

Tyler Senge vs Perth
Like how the first couple of highlights for Hine-Baston are him getting beaten by Harley Reid.

I've heard draft watchers on here say that this draft doesn't have as much top end talent as last year, but it has a good bunch of KPP in the first round. Next year is apparently the midfielder's draft.

Given we need at least one more KPD developing and possibly a KPF (though Maric and J Williams are showing signs they might come good), should we be targeting a teens first rounder to get in on the action? Who would we be after?

O’Sullivan if he slides, if he doesn’t then Murphy will be in the 13-22 range too I imagine.

Couple other decent late options as well.
