They wouldnt compare him as he is in the NGA.
You very rarely hear comparisons. This is the bonus of NGA. Ask Sydney Swans hiding 1st round picks in that program. My gut feeling this kid is another Mcleod. Collard's are very good footballing family related to Winmar's & Kicketts. This kid will be special. Just remind yourself Shai Bolton come out of Subiaco too. He will be a good egg.
Definitely has lots of talent and speed to burn, but apparently has some attitude issues and this always acts as a red flag for clubs. So he'll likely slide to past pick 40.

That Hough is even not considered as delist material has given me hope that maybe the last two years of our drafting (2021, 2022) has cancelled out the tepid between 2018 and 2020. Admittedly not helped by finishing high up the ladder, but still look at the comparison (bolded are considered successes so far imo relative to what we'd expect from players picked in that position eg H Edwards get a bold because although he's only played 30 games in 5 years he was a rookie pick and has shown glimpses, West had been middling but he was only a MSD pick)

2018 - X O'Neill, Foley, B Williams, Cameron, H Edwards, Smith
2019 - Jamieson, Johnson, Treacy, M O'Neill, B Ah Chee, H Brayshaw
2020 - L Edwards, Winder, Trew
2021 - Collins, West, Chesser, Hough, Bazzo, J Williams, Clark
2022 - Culley, Ginbey, Hewett, Barnett, Burgiel, Long, Winder

Obviously still very early but the past two drafts seem okay.

As long as the trade secured McKercher then i'm not against it.

I really like Curtin's game and feel as though he is getting harshly marked however I would much rather Ollie Murphy at 19. With Croft going to the dogs and McCabe going to the Hawks i'm finding it hard to see both Murphy and O'Sullivan off the board before the clubs second pick.

Whomever was to trade for pick 1 would take Reid, North are then a huge ???, Hawks from what I have heard are pretty set on Duursma at this stage.

If pick 1 could secure GC pick 4, GC future first and another pick between 15-20 I would take it. A lot of water to go under the bridge however between now and the draft.

See I would prefer F1st to gold coast for pick 4 and F1st

We go down the pecking order next year, to what magnitude ??? But still hold a first rounder and get pick 4 this year.

Is there anyone who physically attended and watched the WA vs Vic Country U18 match at the WACA that thinks we should even consider anything less than the most one sided trade in history for Reid?
WA's effort was pretty poor and VC shut up shop early so there wasn't too much too take out of it we didn't already know.
Reid was probably BOG with a lot of flair but only kicked 2? goals from about 8 shots. That's burning a few too many.

Id trade if we got #2 or #3 plus.

“We will again go to the draft where we currently hold the first selection and we will look to bring in some elite youngsters with that and other selections.”

So that quote is from the Eagles statement just released for Simpsons Coaching position and AFL 360 have interpreted that quote that pick one is for sale.

That AFL 360 video was hilarious, they acted like trading pick 1 was the only way we can get youngsters in, as if we don’t have other picks.

It was a poorly worded sentence from us though, don’t think we should read anything into it however.

From the Simmo staying announcement...

“We will again go to the draft where we currently hold the first selection and we will look to bring in some elite youngsters with that and other selections."

Sounds like we intend to use pick 1
The "currently" makes it a bit uncertain...

Yeah my feeling was that they were trying to read too much into it. No doubt there is a lot of talk in Melbourne about getting the pick it’s going to be a long 3 months.

You need to do some serious word twisting for that to mean we are trading pick 1.

You don’t need to do any at all for it to mean we are keeping it.

Yet look at what they go for. I actually think we are dealing with some of the least intelligent people imaginable when it comes to sports journalism.

Yeah just watching 360 now and they conveniently left out the end of that quote to continue with the “pick 1 is for sale narrative”. Have yet to see anything to say we’re even contemplating a trade at this point

If you are correct that one of O’Sullivan or Murphy are on the board at 19, I would not hesitate one moment and call their name out.
Against the trend but I rate Murphy as the better defender.

If we keep pick 1 & 19 and come away with:

Reid
Murphy

That IMO would be an amazing start to this years draft.

I cannot express the joy I’ll derive watching and listening to the vic media if we take Reid. Let North take Curtain, develop him for a couple of years and he can come home as a 20 year old to replace Gov. Don’t hear the media laying eggs about that.

I’d bloody hope the talent manager at his WAFL club has a better idea than me.

But he might be a little bit partial. Has anyone else rated Collard that highly? Since apparently “most articles” had him ahead of Curtin, according to you?
I have him 25-30 currently, but it's not out of the question someone rates him higher and jumps early. Is super quick, kicks lots of goals and even tackles😍
Is 185 cm so won't be relegated to just a small forward though WA played him as a fwd pocket where he was very hot and cold. He plays in the midfield a lot more for Subiaco colts usually on-ball more than wing from what i've seen but that's probably not his spot at AFL.

In order i'd say WA prospects are taken Curtin, Edwards, Collard, Hall.

They wouldnt compare him as he is in the NGA.

Wishful thinking, Shai Bolton is a pretty accurate comparison, but not as good.

I second that, we will have already won the draft.

Thoughts on Schoenmaker? I think he’s the other key tall that hasn’t been spoken about much that’s quietly going under the radar.
He is continuing to work on his contested game and perhaps enhancing his marking presence at 194cm.
A piece from his section on Rookieme. So basically a hard-running player who's also really tall, which isn't exactly what we're looking for.

But the Subiaco excitement machine, described as the “most talented in the State for his age”, is yet to fully arrive.

He responded with an incredible six goals from 17 touches, with the majority coming off the back of his pressure.

Berryman predicts Collard to be “pretty unstoppable” in the mould of Brisbane superstar Charlie Cameron.

They say he is a couple yrs off being unstoppable.

This is the Player we want to recruit to be our next Superstar attacking Wingman.
Is he an elite runner? BC charlie Cameron isn't and neither is he a wingman. If he's anything like Cameron he's not wingman. He's another Ryan, Cripps, long, Burgiel, Brockman. Don't get me wrong, forward half xfactor is huge now, just don't expect him to be able to run up and down the wings like the elite runners do.

Your proposed trade for pick 1 could not be described as a godfather offer.

You don’t appear to see much difference between Reid and McKercher or Curtin, presumably one of whom would be available at pick 4 if we did your proposed trade.

Gary Lyon would be rubbing his hands with glee and have a smile from ear to ear if our recruiters are thinking the same way as you.

Reid for a downgraded first round pick, a late first and a mid first.

Late firsts probably have a 50% hit rate, mid round firsts are rarely gun players.

I hope our recruiters aren’t thinking the same as you.

Has also played on a wing and he has a beautiful left foot precision kick, that is and can also be a long accurate bomb.
Would think he gets taken late second more likely mid third round and who ever gets him will definitely have a skill set to work with.

Good runner and and reads the ball well also a good intercept mark.

In the early Bigfooty mock draft I took him with one of our late picks.

I am a fan and think he is underrated as is Logan Evans from SA.

I do not see how Curtain is a top 10 pick at all. He is being completely overrated pick wise due to him being the most highly related WA guy. I see like a Hurn replacement. A really good Back Flank 3rd option with some midfield potential. 15 to 25. Shannon Hurn went at 13. Nat Fyfe Fwd Pocket come Brownlow Medal Winning Midfielder pick 20, Patrick Cripps Slow Well Built Midfielder come Brownlow Medal Winner Pick 13.

I honestly see Collard as a better player likened to Charlie Cameron] who went at Pick 7 or Peter Matera. That kid will go Pick 20 to 40. This fella is the closest thing to a Goal kicking Wingman since Roo. Most articles say hes the best in WA.

My preference is Harley Reid Pick 1 & Lance Collard at the next pick we have.
I'm resigned to getting Pick 1 and not being amongst Picks 2 to 7. We wont trade away Reid, but we will try get other picks in other ways.

Guys look at this these 9 guys
Chesser Yeo Collard
Hewett, Kelly, Reid
Ginbey, Culley, Burgiel,

Curtin would be top ten universally. Maybe he wouldn't be rated so highly if the draft had more depth of mids. His champs were great and he dominated exhibition games.

Agree on Collard.

Do you think GCS need draft currency for their three academy players this year?
Walter being a potential high pick requires high draft currency to match/pick. Losing draft pick 4 this year will hurt GCS unless they have the equivalent draft currency-2023 back in return. I don't think GCS is interested in future picks.

Yeah I’d agree with that but unfortunately I’ve only watched a couple of his games.
He moved really well for a pretty big kid and had a really good kick on him.
